What can I tell you other than both these guys looked & sounded sincere. I tend to believe them.

I have no doubt they believed what they told you. However, sales persons do not have direct knowledge of release dates, other than a day before an offical release or announcement.

It's quite possible it has been delayed again, or it's quite possible they are reacting to rumor that one read off a forum somewhere. Having dealt with many quality CSRs from Verizon, I know most of them get thier release date info from Google, not from headquarters.

I haven't tried yet. Bummer it doesn't work in offline mode though. It will be nice in front of my gigantic 1080p hdtv with wifi!

Just wondering something though, do market rentals put out digital 5.1 surround sound?

Not really. Maybe someone already mentioned this before. But a member here brought up the fact that the phone remains in portrait mode when its in the desk docks... Very peculiar if that is the case. Any thoughts?

edit: also, a video showing off the HDMI/MHL to TV connection was posted. In THAT video it rotated to landscape (which makes sense since the output is to a TV). By that reasoning it SHOULD rotate to landscape in the docks as well, though it doesn't appear to be the case in the videos from yesterday.

If this is indeed the case, no doubt it will be modified very quickly by the devs that are getting on board with this device... The beauty of AOSP!! :D

No, actually these guys never pushed me toward a different device. In fact the first guy said to check back in a couple of weeks.

All very true. And who knows if the person showing off the docs was using an outdated build as well and that issue was addressed. I'm not too concerned; the only dock I'm interested in is a car dock, and if I have to use it in portrait so be it.

I'm pretty sure that because the desktop landscape dock was not powered it did not rotate. I'm hoping that it is similar to Moto docks when powered and it brings up landscape mode with a clock/calender/weather/alarm clock type mode as well.

I do not believe the rentals are in 5.1 surround. That would make the file huge because it would need to have 5 audio tracks all of dvd/cd quality. Plus an additional track for the sub whoofer.

I prefer it but its not essential. I cant help but think that all this speculation around the rotation (or lack there of) in the docks, has to do with the pogo pins.

I am only familiar with the OG Droid personally. And it utilized magnets to discern whether it was docked or not. I believe the pogo pins would be used for the same purpose in the case of the SGN. Am I correct in that assumption?

When I dock my Droid it launches Car Home immediately (portrait or landscape depending on orientation). If I go to my homescreen, it defaults to portrait since I lock my phone in portrait. I would assume the set up would be very similar in ICS (minus Car Home).

I don't believe the phone is set to rotate in hand by default (whether theres a toggle switch for that or not I don't know) which I am perfectly ok with. But the phone should know when its docked and the ability to rotate should be available.

My problem with talking about setting adjustments on phone cameras is that for most of us average joes, the phone's camera is used for a spur-of-the-moment event. When I want to get a picture of my kid's touchdown run, I don't have time to make adjustments on the fly. I need to turn on the phone and take the picture, quality be damned. In this common situation, the auto settings of the iPhone are typically better than others.

Having said that, I expect from the Nexus sample photos I have seen, that next season's pictures will turn out MUCH better than the ones I got this season with the X2. ;)

I agree. If you take the time to learn which fine tuned settings work best, it needs to still be set that way when you start the camera again. I would hope that is the case with the gnex. It works that way on my D2, point and shoot, and dslr.

Every camera is different and one has to shoot a bunch to learn the best settings. Theoretically, with experience, things become predictable. i.e. you learn what to expect for a given lighting condition and settings combination. It is good when you get good results from the "Auto" setting, and many cameras do. Unfortunately, it looks like the camera app on the gnex needs more work. I'll bet there will be excellent aftermarket apps that work fine. I'll also bet that the gnex hardware is fine and the app just needs fixing.

I will make up my mind when I have one in hand. This isn't a killer for me, but I do expect the camera to be decent. From what I have seen so far, it is currently questionable.
