***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

For those of you night crawlers coming in, there are very few retailers actually putting people on a pre-order or any type of list for that matter at this point. I just got on a list this afternoon with one of the retailers in MD who confirms he will have it in stock on Friday and will ship for free, or overnight for very nominal fee. He's also giving a promotion for phandroid people. Just thought if anyone was late to the thread you might want to check out the thread he started.

So with the release of the GNex being most likely this Friday and as a major lurker of this thread, although I did make a few posts about 1,000 pages ago, I just wanted to dedicate this post (which will most likely get buried) to by far the best phone I've ever owned.

That phone would be none other than my Original Gangsta Droid 1. Before it, I went through no less than 5 LG Chocolates and an extremely problematic BB Pearl. My OG Droid however, has trucked along for two problem free years and has taken everything I've thrown at her; drops, scrapes, dozens of ROMs, shady side-loaded apps; you name it, she's done it all. Even though I curse it for occasionally slowing down because I force it to run GB, it'll always hold a special place in my technological heart.

So for all of you still rocking the OG Droid, let's have a moment of silence for a great piece of hardware as we move on to another superb smartphone.

I don't even think I can sell it, it's just that damn good.
 
I'll gladly be willing to sacrifice and tell you that I have a Lexus and live in Texas for a free dock :D

Edit: Or we'll have to figure out a little rhyme for New Jersey and Toyota??

so at this point, doing a pre-order through vzw will most likely be moot. the quickest way to get a GNex will be through stores, right?

edit: assuming friday is the release date.

Sure it does. There is VERY little room inside these phones so any increase in the size of the battery is going to need a different door. If not, it will put pressure on the battery and possibly pressure on the front screen. That was the case with the DX. People that used the original battery cover with the extentded battery found out that their screen had extra pressure on it, which actually made a "bubble" appear in the middle of their screen. Note the DX battery was a little less than 1mm thicker than the original.

I just realized for around $40 I could own the legendary OG droid. I am conflicted. Maybe I'll get that, get into rooting and roming and all that, and that should keep me busy until the Gnex price drops, and then I can ebay it and get some of my money back. Never owned a smartphone, so I figure I won't feel to constricted by the OG droid for a while.
 
The Iphone 4S came out for preorder 5minutes to 3:00 EST even though the preorders were terribly carried out but hopefully Nexus will be going onto the site in 43 minutes! Time for 1 more disappointment until happiness or can we reach happiness tonight or early morning!?! Let's make it happen. Verizon Wireless "Can You Hear Me Now???" (Me as in the thread community)
 
What is the hole on the back of this cover for? Is there a vent there on the Nexus? I couldn't see a phone getting so hot that it needs a vent like that.
