I just left the beach to our hitek room here at Disneyland. Even though the gps didnt follow me it still gave me turn by turn directions. Important very fine with that!

Understandable, but what indication is there that they might not fix it? "...will provide an update as soon as possible."

Well Samsung has a sketchy record with android in general , the samsung behold II i could give as an example. They said they would update it to 2.0 , but never got past 1.6

Oh ok, I thought you were going purely off the statement issued. I've heard about the Behold incident...

Going to play the wait and see game with them , have a few more weeks before the thirty days are up, so hopefully they will be able to get it all fixed i do like the phone , even with the many issues it has.

My GPS randomly started working incredibly well today without me doing anything. It locks on within 20 seconds and is dead on. It even locked on inside today which made no sense to me.

FWIW a friend of mine also has a (brand new, got it today) unit and hers also locked on inside (while I was standing next to her, which prompted me to try, which led to me discovering that mine locked on as well)

My GPS just doesn't work at all anymore..any ideas, I get nothing. No pumping little icon nothing. I got it selected to be ON..hmmmm, I don't know maybe it burned out trying to find a location LOL!!

UPDATE:
Rebooted and now it works, well it pumps the little icon now...but that's it! LOL maybe the fix will come soon!!!!! At least if someone ever tries to locate me via GPS they will be searching 2 clicks away, sweet..well it says he is located right here!!

My GPS is almost maddening in it's randomness. It just flat out didn't work for a week, and then on Saturday I went out on a limb and used it for directions on a short drive (an hour and half or so) to a friends house. After 20 minutes it locked. However, since then, I've gotten great locks within about the space of a minute. I hope this keeps up until Uncle Sammy pushes us a fix for or CyanogenMod drops.

hi, my gps after tweaking it with some of the recomendations here has been locking almost instantly and the chick starts telling me where to go, and very accurate, no probs here i guess.

Took my captivate for a run yesterday. It tracked my run like crap, again. Totally unusable compared to my iPhone 3G.

I suppose the GPS is accurate enough if you are on a large wide highway, but not on a single lane road in a city.

I tried using the GPS driving home the other day, and it was all over the place and completely unusable. turn-by-turn directions couldn't keep up because it had no idea where I really was. GPS is useless on the device as it is for me.

but thats areally the only example, the Behold2/GT-17500(same device different regions) weren't exactly popular phones, hence I could see them pulling support. Look at Microsoft and the Kin, sold about 8000 devices then killed off the brand entierly because of it.

The moment got the update to 2.1, the Spica went from 1.5 to 2.1, so based on one poorly selling phone that didnt get much in terms of updates, everyone says they have a "sketchy record"

GPS seems to be very hit and miss i have been able to get into lock on pretty darn close , but sometimes I dont get a lock at all. Late last night would get a lock in 5 seconds and be within 5-10 feet accurate. Today its taking a bit longer maybe 15 seconds but accuracy is only showing to be 160 or so feet, according to gps stat app.

I really hope they are actually trying to fix this problem or its just lip service because the original galaxy s has same issue and that phones been out for a few months

And this is the very reason I might return mine. If this was a known issue two months ago with the S why was it not fixed by the time the Captivate was released. Not sure I want to take a chance that it will ever be fixed.

Mine was instant lock too ... at first ... take it for a drive in a few days and then report back ...

It takes more than two months to develop a fix, test it on all devices, and re-flash them (which would cause a huge delay) or get the fix approved for an OTA patch through the carrier. I don't think I ever expected the US models to come out without the fix -- I was just hoping the fix would come out soon after release (which I am still hoping ... it's only been a few weeks)

If fix doesnt come before the 30 days up i am definately not keeping the phone till its fixed , Both my new and old captivate are both have issues getting gps lock now, i took my old captivate out to dinner and it coulndt get a lock the whole way there.
