Official GSM Hero 2.1 Thread

Someone reported on twitter they have the Orange 2.1 update in the UK i hope this is true! Just need to wait for the message. Finally, we might actually have something!

Or... it's a BS ;)

I reckon the guy has a generic hero with an orange sim and only just got the update message.

Someone else is also saying they've got the update:

Steven Gray (frogo) on Twitter

Could be a coincidence, but fingers crossed it's not!

for me it turned out the 2.1 update had been available (swisscom) for a while but i hadnt updated from the vanilla 1.5. as soon as i installed the 2.73.405.5 ROM from the HTC support web site it then picked up 2.1

Has anyone on 2.1 managed to get voice search to work, it seems to crash everytime, it worked on 1.5 no probs. plus I've noticed system mem full @ 170meg none free, which its been reading since the update to 2.1 :-( everything Else program wise works gr8

i tried it for the first time and it worked very well.

Got back from my holiday (taking an old phone with me) to find that the update still wasnt available. I set the date a year ahead, and instantly the updates came through! :)
2.1 is brilliant, so fast, looks much nicer - settings is very neat and tidy and the icons look great! Also, the new apps are what i have been waiting for :D google goggles - such fun!

I'm now very happy.. and have heard that 2.2 may be coming to the htc hero but im not in any need to get it!

I checked the link you shared with us, but I found no mention that says that the HERO specifically might be considered for 2.2 (at least, not as your claim "2.2 may be coming to the HTC Hero" specifically implies).

I'm also quite happy with 2.1 :-)

Ok, wrong link, and im perfectly happy if the Hero doesnt get 2.2, but i saw somewhere that said all android phones with a processor smaller than 1ghz have the ability to get 2.2, and Minimum hardware requirements for Android 3.0 devices are: 1GHZ CPU, 512MB or RAM, displays from 3.5” and higher. - so the hero could not get 3.0 no matter what.

One problem i'm having however is that 2.1 seems to have removed the connection with each contact to Facebook, when i got my phone it took me ages connecting each person to Facebook.. but i cant even do this, because it doesn't see any of my Facebook friends!

Have you logged in to Facebook on your Hero?

Yeah i have, and it works fine, but the contacts do not have their facebook pictures like they used to.

Also, i have an app called uninstaller, which allows me to uninstall apps quicker without having to go through 'manage applications' which takes ages to load, and the update files appear. Can i remove these? they take up in total of 12 mb (which is useful app space) :D

I have a T Mobile G2, and I'm trying to install the first update. I set the date forward to get the prompt and when I click to update, the screen goes black before the G2 start up screen appears. After that, I get a loading bar and a picture of a folder, but once the bar gets just over half way, this screen appears. It freezes on that screen unless I remove the battery to start again. Any help?

I can't see the image as my company's firewall is blocking imageshack. But how long does it get stuck for, as I've heard some people having to wait 10 mins on a screen before it carrying on.

So you could try again and wait, or you could donwload the G2 ROM from HTC and flash your phone with that (I think the date is Nov 09), then it should prompt for update and maybe that will install flawlessly then.

Yes that's EXACTLY what he should do. The T-Mobile released 2.73.110.26 has a bug that prevents the OTA from installing. The 2.73.110.26 on the HTC site works just fine. Same version numbers but slightly different ROMs? Go figure...
