Official HTC Gingerbread 2.3 for Desire Leaks.

Well after a very long wait and although not OTA just yet, it would appear we can finally get a glimpse at 2.3 for our desires. The test ROM just leaked, so we can all flash away :)

But... it doesn't have the new sense (2.0/2.1) which means no skins for us. It is a test ROM, so I suppose this could change, but I doubt it.

Nonetheless, it's great news :)

AndroidCentral reports, "Upon initial inspection, we noticed the clock widget animations and "fast boot" feature from Sense 2.0 have been ported across, and there seem to be some minor UI changes in the browser too."

Been running it since last night, seems quicker than 2.2

Shame about no new Sense but the flip clock is nice

Since this is a test build, do you think it's possible the final version could be different (e.g include the new sense :P ) ?

And, now that we have a 2.3 GB release for the original desire, how can this help other custom roms? Does this mean we can for example make much more stable sense 2 ports?

Briefly, but went back to Oxygen after 5 mins. Been running this leak since last night and it seems solid. Not got my APN setup (can't be arsed, will do it on lunch) but everything else works. OK, it's not UK English but meh

Not sure which is better - HTC to go ahead and push out the update with whatever Sense skin currently works, or wait until they have put in whatever features they can from Sense 3.0 (like the funky lockscreen)
Whichever way - it looks like I'm going to be a wee bit disappointed - its either not going to have any of the 3.0 features, or it is going to be a longer wait.
I suppose the other option is just to go ahead and root!

Got a version I've made working, seems to be running A2SD+ with no issues and seems very stable. Got UK locale on it too

Quite looking forward to a proper WWE RUU leaking so I can get a proper x.xx.405.x ROM running

Why, there's nothing wrong with them. All RUUs are technically leaks as they're not officially released from HTC

im gonna wait till leedroid gets updated before I get excited bout updating...I wanna keep my Apps2SD+ AND not have to wipe..hopefully it can just be a update over 2.3d which im running..

and I DONT expect 3.0 or features to come down to us on older devices for that one reason...they WANT us to buy newer...the fact we are even gettign 2.3 is good..and hell we've had this kinda "companys SHOULD update....no they shouldnt" style debate enough times lol

I wont be running sense anyway...I love using launcherpro to much...so I will just slap that on anyway..

A2SD+ is working in mine, tbh it's 100% stable from my tests. No FCs, nothing :D

I don't think an install without wipe is going to work as it's a different version of Android

well im still gonna wait till leedroid updates anyway...once the official release of 2.3 for desire is past...

hell I dont mind waiting.

Problem with LeeDroid is he adds a lot of gumpf that's not needed. I'm going to be using my ROM until the official version is out (or until I find an issue with it!!)

Since 2.3 moves app lib to sd (better than Froyo) you'll prob never have to root it

Well after some odd results in gingervillain where free space increased more than a2sd+ if using move to sd on some apps (with a2sd active), Hadron did some command line digging and found in 2.3 those apps with libs had their libs moved also, where a2sd does not.

With a2sd though dalvik is moved where with move to sd it is not so it doesn't necessarily overtake a2sd in freeing up memory.

I don't think it will make a2sd redundant, but for those on the brink of "should I root or not?" It may be enough or at least prolong the need.

Since eddy (I believe) doesn't have excessive amount of apps, he will probably be fine

I'm at an odd stage with my ROM choice now.

I'm not a fan of aosp roms to be honest. GingerVillain was great, but the wifi bug drove me insane, and I find the whole stock interface just to plain for my liking.

I loved sense, but got bored of the froyo version and want skins. I thought this would be my answer, but not it seems its not. And the ports from DHD etc aren't ideal (or very stable).

And Miui, it's great. But I'm bored of this too for the time being. Not such a fan of the iOS style anymore.

If only the sensation was ported :(

I'm sure it will be at some point but I saw what happened with the DesireHD ported to Desire and it wasn't a great result tbh.
