I think that is just the speaker for the speaker phone.

I could be wrong.

Here's a question. Do current phones with speakerphone speakers on the back also use a separate mic for picking up your conversation. Or does it just use the primary mic?

Possibly, but it seems to line up pretty well with how the N1 is designed for the NCM.

Or maybe she wasn't given a heads up on the release of that budget phone, because it was a budget phone.

... Or because they know she's tied to your VZW buddy, who's tied to you, who's tied to this forum.

SHIT THEY'RE ON TO YOU!
...THEY'RE ON TO ME!

Yea probably..........8gb Movinand isn't that big of a deal. It's great that is comes included with it but i wouldn't mind if i didn't have it. Im probably going to buy a class 6 microsd card anyway for Apps and stuff, apps2sd.

I have an ipod touch for my music needs.

In-store support, great but i never even go back to the stores, i havn't had a problem with a phone i've gotten so far and i've never needed to go back for support (knocks on wood). If there is something wrong, i'll just use google and find out the problem. If its something i can't fix, it just goes back to google under warranty, no big deal.

Im just saying, the Nexus One is an amazing phone itself, nothing i couldn't live with even knowing the HTC Incredible is coming after. The next big upgrade after a phone like a Nexus One would have to be LTE. 4G will make a huge contributing factor to a device.

Nexus One and Incredible are both Android, Nexus One will get updates faster considering its google's phone and vanilla. Incredible has 8gb movinand, 8 megapixel, and Sense.

I have a digital camera, i don't know about you guys but this digital camera is certainly a lot better and i wouldn't want to waste it considering how much the thing costs. (panasonic lumix ZS3) I also have an iPod touch for my music/video needs so i wouldn't really need to store music on my phone. I'll watch movies and stuff on the phone of course, AMOLED, bigger screen, etc..

Anyways, what im trying to say, the small features that the Incredible has over the Nexus One isn't as appealing to me now as it may have been when i first looked and heard about it. It's honestly not that appealing at all, nothing to wait over. The only reason i would actually get the Incredible over the Nexus One would be Sense but i wouldn't mind not having it. Having Android 2.1 itself is already amazing itself. Sense UI ontop of android 2.1 is barely anything, watch the Desire videos, idk about you guys, but it looks pretty much the same once you change your wallpaper to live wallpapers.

Basically yea, i'll still get the Nexus One if it comes out first and i don't hear any confirmed released dates on the HTC Incredible.

Im not trying to change any of your minds though guys, by all means, go by what you truly want. Just for me, i don't think theres any huge deciding factors that would make the HTC Incredible stand out so so so much more than the Nexus One making it worth waiting like a month or something. I would be extremely pleased with either purchase.

Just my .02 cents once again haha
if you have an ipod touch, then whats the point in even getting an android phone, cuz you can download apps and stuff on your ipod touch...i was actually considering doing that, just ditching android all together and getting a dumbphone plus an ipod touch

lol okay.

One question though, why are we making such a huge deal out of a bloody dual mic? I mean, it's a dual-mic. Are you going to not get the phone if it doesn't have one? Im pretty sure a dual-mic hasn't made a huge factor in your choice previously and i doubt it will now.

Not trying to bash on you only woodraskam, just saying in general.
I think it matters because people deciding whether to pick up the Nexus One and the HTC Incredible wants to see what one phone has that the other doesn't. Dual-mic noise cancellation is always good.

What about the touch buttons on the N1...supposedly they are a bit hard to hit as they don't exactly line up with the symbols? And....what about multitouch supposedly being upgraded on the Incredible? Something about the screen going from some blah blah 2000 to a blah blah 3000? Don't remember the specifics. I would personally have the upgrades with regard to touch, storage, Sense UI and RAM. But....will agree...the differences aren't as many as the similarities...and the N1 is definitely, IMHO, much more attractive. The only thing I would say is...use caution...because there may be a few surprises with regard to the ultimate Incredible that we see. Just my two cents! :D
Idk, i dont care about the touch buttons. God forbid i have to click it twice  lol...........its such a little thing idk y sites like cnet.com make such a big deal about it, 2 star deduction; hard to press touch button, i have to press twice .

Idk about multi-touch upgrade, all i know and worry about is that both phones have full multi-touch capabilities.

Yeah, I listen to my iTouch all the time, and one of the main reasons I want a good smartphone is so I can stop carrying it around wherever I go, and retire it to my workout mp3 player.

i actually went through the pictures again last night, and I have a feeling that there will be a dual mic. If you take a look at a couple pictures, there seems to be something on the back of the Incredible.

The first picture with the cover off shows a black something to the right of the camera.

This next picture shows that there is a hole cut through the back cover right to the black 'something' in the phone. I think this may be a second microphone......just what I think.

2341d1268745473-htc-incredible-specs-evergreen-r08aie.jpg

I seem to remember a few hundred pages back where people were speculating that it did not have a dual mic, and that the area on the back of the phone was for something else.....Perhaps some sort of sensor for the camera, but don't quote me on that. The hole in the back was actually different on the original leaked pics with the red back. I also remember NKT saying that he did not think it had dual mics, but that was also hundreds of pages ago.

I think the purpose of the dual mic is to filter out background noise. I'm not as into the phone technology as a lot of the folks on this forum, so perhaps someone else has a better explanation.

Well, I don't exactly have a dog in the fight....so i don't want to come off as trying to persuade you...but i think I read that the multitouch will be much smoother on the next screens....the 3000 blah blah....someone can help me hopefully. But to me the screen issues alone are a good reason to hesitate. I think the N1 forums probably have more info. Oh...and one final bit of info....I don't really know what the hell I'm talking about....just my thoughts. Actually, I'm thinking of skipping the whole Incredible - LTE upgrade by just getting the EVO on Sprint! If that phone is coming in June...I think I will go that route. Otherwise....I would really like to see the Incredible already!!!

I thought of it too. But i have a first gen ipod touch, so it's pretty slow once you get apps and games on it. Music is fine and thats all i really plan on using it for now. Also, internet.........i want data and doing everything on something like an android is just so much better with internet and stuff rather than using an iTouch and searching for wi-fi when you don't have it.

A lot of apps now use internet anyway, idk the experience is just so much different between using an itouch and say like an iPhone which has data and all that.

Im just keeping my itouch to music now and my future android for apps, web browsing, etc..

Yes i know they want to compare the two phones, but first, no one knows if it will have it. And as previously posted, the HTC Desire does not have dual-mics. Second, dual-mics or not, your not going to refrain from getting a phone because it doesn't have a dual-mic to cancel out ambient noise. It honestly won't play that big of a role unless you live in the city constantly chatting with hundreds of ppl around you.

I think these two "mic" areas look extremely similar. While the incredible could just be a speaker on the back, it seems like the cover off photos look the same right there.

Yea idk what your really talking about. But multi-touch is already pretty smooth, i guess they could make it even better like the iPhone but atleast they have multi-touch.

I think your talking about the multi-touch screen issues found on the Nexus One though. I wouldn't really worry about it, with the way Verizon is going, they won't let something like that onto a phone before releasing the damn thing. Especially with the way they are now. It's also probably not that big of an issue considering Google released the AT&T Nexus One even after all the press/info about the multi-touch issue on the Nexus One. From what i remember reading, wasn't it something with a problem in the app? Im probably wrong though.

Yes, they do look very similar.

And to the post above about what dual-mic does.

A dual-mic serves the purpose of canceling out ambient noise to allow the person on the other end to hear your voice more clearly without all the ruckus in the background. Basically, the technology like this would excel in crowded places like the city streets with hundreds of ppl walking next to you or a very crowded bar/restaurant where your all smushed together.

I don't like the advice given to you. I mean in an extreme example, you might as well get an old school clam shell cellphone, a pager, a Nintendo DS, a Sandisk 2GB MP3 player, a calculator, a PDA, and a stop watch separately.

I mean that's why we have smart phones, right? We want to get an assortment of features in one device for simplicity sake. Use your future Android for music too so you just need to bring one device.

Damn you Kway....you stole the thanks that I should've got.:p

Edit: At Least you gave me one on your quote.....so I guess it's kind of a wash.

I'm sorry, I was out to dinner and the movies. "how to tame a dragon" in imax 3D.. liked it.

Hey Steven! Since you're free now, what do you say that we hop in that time machine of yours and head back to - say - October 2004, perhaps? We're sure to relive some great times! :p

Do any of you guys familiar with the whole ROM deal know if you can run it on the Android SDK emulator? I downloaded the ROM but can't seem to get it to work quite right. I'm about as much a "newbie" as it gets when it comes to this stuff. But, I think it would be cool to sorta play around with the "Incredible" on my computer until it's actually released.

I feel like it's important to some people. Some people talk in the car a lot and they might have an old civic or big loud truck vs a new quiet audi or bmw. They also might live in an area like NYC which i'm sure can be loud when walking around at the right places at the right time (granted i've never been there). Since the N1 is going to be a similarly spec'd phone, it might change someone's decision.

Also as a disclaimer, I've never actually used or known anyone with a 2nd noise canceling mic so I don't know how well it actually works...

I'd also like to know if this has 1 or 2 speakers, and if it looks to be the same one as the N1 which from reviews has one that could perform better, not that it would change my decision. Just curious.

Not sure if everyone discussing the second mic is aware, but the 2nd noise canceling mic on the N1 is the tiny pin hole on the left edge on the back. The larger hole that is similar on both is the speaker on the N1, and presumably the same on incredible.

yea, i just second thought what i said and looked at verizon's website, they dont have any good dumbphones...right now im hanging on by thread with my LG Dare, which is a piece of crap...i know others on here have older phones...but this is just really hard for me, cuz my phone sucks so bad...i remember right after the DROID came out i told this lady at the Verizon store i really wanted to wait, cuz i knew something better would come...then low and behold i see something about the incredible posted on gizmodo back in January or February and then i got hooked on this thread a couple weeks ago...im waiting till June at the latest for the Incredible or Shadow or whatever the hell is suppose to come out, but unfortunately i cant get a N1 unless its sold in the store(which i highly doubt it will be) because im only 16 and im on my parents plan and they wont buy me a phone unless i can get it at an upgrade price...but good luck to you if you get an N1 when its available, and post on here the verdict

I don't mean to be rude but unless your doing a comparison of the Nexus One to the incredible please take it to the Nexus One forum.

Solo Nexus One comments don't belong here.

Not trying to be rude. I'm just trying to keep it clean in here.;)
