I admire your optimism, but I just don't think that's physically possible. I'm sure the stock back already fits flush against the battery. Unless they have special magic liquid batteries that can fit and flow into the "tiers" that have been cut away in the stock back (hint: they don't), they're going to be stuck with a normal rectangular battery that has no place to go but straight out. If anything, an extended battery and associated replacement cover will make the Incredible seem to gain more mass than something like the Eris, since it was already pared down an exceptional amount to begin with.

I'm nothing if not optimistic! I would bet the farm that the engineers at Seidio will attempt it though - and toss it out there as an option even if it does mean some additional depth. For travelers like me, who can't always get to a charger in a timely manner, this is still a win-win situation.

In any event - fear not!! Panasonic is already working on the next generation of batteries for us!!

Hmm... someone help me here. I can't think of a reason that I would purchase an iPhone when the Incredible is such a super amazing phone.

I'm with you there. The ONLY reason I would want an iPhone is because the stereo in my truck has an iPod/Phone dock and you can control the iPhone through the factory stereo and steering wheel controls. It'll still do line-in, so it's not all bad.

Additionally, I have a couple of Windows Mobile apps that I like that will never be ported to Android, so I have a slight bit of sadness leaving them behind as well...

I guess my perfect phone would be something like the Incredible with an iPod-compatible dock/interface and VMWare's rumored WM virtual machine software. I suppose I'll have to settle for getting 95% of what I want in the Incredible.

Just thought I'd check in with a couple of thoughts that I have after finally getting caught up with the rest of you - once again!

First, regarding the iPhone rumored to come to Verizon in June - if this really is the case, I would think that Big Red would want to release the Incredible as soon as they can - before people get wind of the iPhone coming out in June. In that regard, it would be great news for those of us waiting for the Incredible!

Secondly, there are quite a few concerns - warranted - regarding the Incredible's stock 1300mAh battery and if there will be after-market upgrade options which might become available. A month ago, I was this close to purchasing an Eris and had quickly become aware of the number of people out there who were thoroughly disgusted with the Eris' 1300mAh battery. At that point I researched Seidio's options at length and saw that they made a massive 3500mAh battery for the Eris which includes a replacement back in which to house this bigger beast.

Keep in mind that the replacement back does add about 4mm of depth to the phone, and people were then quick to complain about the added "bulkiness" of the Eris with the new back on it. You just can't please everyone, it seems. But follow my thought process here... if Seidio were to offer the same type of battery and back for the Incredible, it wouldn't necessarily add any additional overall depth to the phone because the Incredible already has the tiered, layered back - the Seidio replacement back would merely make the phone have a smooth, uniformly deep back while adding very little or no further depth in the process! Voila! Your Incredible now has a smooth, uniform back and a monster battery beneath it! Here's hoping that they can - and will - do it!!

Anyways, regarding what you said, I don't think thats possible. The reason why its tiered to begin with is because the thickest part (the highest tier) is flush against the battery. With that said, the lower tiers are irrelevant as they are covering the other internals and not the battery itself. So, if the battery is ANY thicker at all, you MUST have a thicker backplate.

TBH, at this point the only disappointing thing about this phone is that the screen isn't slightly larger. But whatevs, I'll make do. My TP2 has roughly the same size screen (3.6" vs. 3.7" on the incredible), and the best hardware KB of all time. And I use the hardware KB once or twice a day at most.

Non-ionizing radiation doesn't cause cancer.

As a radiographer, I completely agree. Non-ionizing radiation does not have the ability to break dna strands (the reason ionizing radiation (x-rays) can cause cancer). The thinking is that there may be other mechanics involved.

Am I personally concerned? meh.

IMO, I prefer the 3.7" versus, say a 4.3"

Makes the phone more pocketable and I don't have to worry about the screen as much (especially because I do wear skinny jeans)

Official release date of the Devour for Verizon is the 25th. They didn't have any information about the other Android phone.

Huh? I just saw one at the VZ kiosk. it was right there on the counter (tethered with that cord) with the other phones. Picked it up, opened it, and everything. Other than mentioning Moto-Blur, we really didn't talk about it.

Felt heavy, solid, and metal-like. Is it possible it was just there for display purposes and they didn't really have it yet?

No, no. I was answering your question. You asked when it was going to be released, and I was referring you to the Desire release date (but nevermind, I'll just tell you haha), which, in Europe, is in April.

By the way i just want to thank all of you guys for all the information being shared around here..i know i used to be fascinated with phones..but i never thought i would be addicted to them...i was just trying to read info on the desire and if it was coming to verizon or not..until i stumbled across rumors of an incredible on the verizon forums about a month ago..and that curiosity led me to this site..and wow there are really some smart and great ppl in this room..i learned so much these past couple of weeks from this thread its amazing..not just about the incredible but tech stuff in general..now my friends think im some type of geek because i keep talking and talking bout all this stuff im learning..but once again thanks to all of u

Thanks, bud! I've actually had to *gasp* get some work done over the past couple of days, but all the news in the meantime has been just awesome! The more I look at it, I tend to agree with you and Reg about the back having to be deeper with a 3500mAh battery, but I still think that the demand for one will definitely be there. I actually called Seidio last month and they told me that the 3500mAH was, by far, their best-selling battery for the Eris. In any event, there's NO WAY that I'd rule out a 1750mAh battery being made to fit in the Incredible's existing battery cavity with no new back needed - exactly like the Eris.

I got a quick question for everyone out there: How many 'skinny jean' wearing folks do we got on this forum? If you're one of them, please take no offense, I was just wondering as a guy who could never fit into a pair in my life (I'm a cyclist and former hurdler, we tend to have big thighs ) because I have seen the reference to these particular pants many times within these pages. Just having a little fun with all ya'll, I do see the point of pocket-ability for everyone.

I would definitely compromise thickness. I might be one of the few people that feels that the Eris is too thin. I would hope for it to have a few extra mm added as long as it is in battery thickness. I am also quite disappointed with the fact that although Verizon claims to have the best coverage, I frequently see 3G and maybe 1 or 2 bars when I see my iPhone with 3G and 5 bars in the same area. Granted the verizon coverage seems to go from 0 to 1-2 to 5 and back to 0 and fluctuates quite frequently so it probably is 5 bars it just constantly updates.

I really want to keep Android and Verizon but the iPhone simply, working, is making is quite difficult. Just seems the UI and general usability is still better with the iPhone than Android. I do like the ability to customize with Android though.

verizon just needs to hurry up and release it before people lose interest and go back to the tried and true.

I have a question for NKT or Stericson... or well, maybe anyone. I hope this hasn't been covered. I've don't my best to keep up with this thread and have read each and every page of this massive beast (I even came over from the Passion forums). And the question is....

What can you tell me about the screen?

We know it is AMOLED, or that it is supposed to be, but can you be any more clear. Is it like the Nexus One where the phone is locked into 16 bit color? Does it display more than 65k colors? I am not sure that anyone else has asked these kinds of questions, but feel free to flame if they have. I am very concerned with how this phone is going to actually look. I have seen the Droid and Eris side by side and you can tell the difference in the screen quality. The Droid looks fantastic. I've seen the iPhone next to them as well. I went through a handful of pictures and videos and recorded one from each phone and passed it around to them all.

I may be a bit partial to the Droid, I sometimes steal my girlfriends and browse this site when I'm bored with "quality" time. The phone does look great and I can tell an actually difference between it and other phones. I'm hoping for a similar experience. I've never touched or seen a Nexus One, so I'm not sure what kind of let down, if any, I'm in for.

Unless something changes, it should be the same screen that the Nexus One and the Desire have. Check the video below. It will show you what the screen should be like. There are three videos in this series. I would suggest watching all three if you really want to see what the Incredible will be like. It should be just like this, software wise, and the screen should be the exact same. Enjoy!

16bit color is an Android limitation. The screen is capable of 262k capable though.

The Incredible looks phenomenal. Of course that's a subjective judgment.

I was very disappointed when Steve Jobs didn't announce the iPhone last month, when he announced the iPad. Was I going to purchase the iPhone? Probably not. I just would have liked to have been able to look forward to having the choice. You see, even at that time, I knew the N1 was supposed to be coming to VZW. I heard that it was a superior phone so I was looking forward to learning more about it.

The next stage of my techno pilgrimage included all of the terrible reports I had heard about the N1 (no multi-touch at the time (now it's there but it has problems for gamers), support issues, problems with the 3G connection (some said it was the antenna placement) and not family plan upgradable.)

It seemed to me to be the deal killer. Should I purchase a phone, as wonderful as it sounded, that came with such baggage and no VZW support?

Then came the Incredible rumors. It sounded like a great phone, but it was under-clocked and it only had 256 mb of Ram. *sigh*. Was it a Droid Eris mid-level replacement?

Then came NDK to tell us the ram was 512 mb, and when I asked him, as an aside, he dropped the bomb...NO RED BACK!!! Wow! The phone started to sound better to me! He said a lot of other things which are filed away somewhere. Okaaaay...this phone sounds red hot!

Then along came Stericson who said that there is onboard ROM in addition to a miniSD slot!!! No multi-touch issues like the N1, the sound is good, ans the speaker is good! (of course, you have that 8 mp camera!) Ok.. .this phone is smoking now!!!

All of this leads me back to the iPhone. With the specs of the Incredible being so far advanced, why would I want to go backwards to get the iPhone, I ask myself. Would I get it to be cool? No, that's not my way. I don't need an iPhone to be cool. Would I want it for the huge sofware store? Meh..android's is fine.

So.... it doesn't matter to me. I'm choosing the Incredible over the N1 AND the iPhone. Incredible is a win-win mini-computer/phone.

Just my musings.

We will get the Incredible sooner than later because if the rumor is true about the iphone coming in June. We will pay over 200 for this Incredible and in June the phone will go BOGO from the Iphone coming out. Will anybody be mad?

So although this might be one or two pages late at this point, I feel its only right to share the information and time that I put in on figuring out the power issue. When it comes to power hungry phones this one is going to rank up there. I as most of you have put some thought into solving the power thing. I have stated many times now that I was going to underclock the phone to save power. But I have changed my mind. Reason being is if I can head off the power issue why rob myself of the extra fun? So I have seen the statement made a couple times now that Seideo will most likely be making a extended battery like they have for the Nexus one.

The only issue I see with this is that it removes the ability to case your phone for protection. Being that I am hoping that Case-Mate is going to make a case for this phone like the One Tough Case they offer for the Nexus one.

The idea of using the Seidio battery extender just does not work out. More over you dont really get a huge jump in power when you do the math. The Seidio is only 3200mAh. This is a replacement for the 1400mAh that the Nexus one comes with. Not in conjunction. So you only gain 1800mAh. For the Incredible its stated that you are going to get a 1300mAh battery out of the box so your still only getting a 1900mAh jump in juice. But there are other alternatives. Just like the iPhone (I hate that word by the way) you can get external batteries. There are many types and styles out there. Most people will at this point have heard of the Richard Solo.

I think I am trying to make a point for those that are not educated on this subject. This is not a sweet price point for this products capability. This thing is packing 4400mAh. Best thing I saw was that you can pick it up for $60. Now thats a price point I can handle. Further being that you can use this with anything that charges from USB its not going to be a waste of $60 from a battery for one phone. When you get your next phone or GPS or anything USB for that matter its going to help you out.

So what I am thinking is that with all the times I pocket my phone I can also have this in my pocket and have them tethered together and charging at almost all times. For those that might quest pocket room... I am in Law Enforcement and have cargo pockets. Some of you will end up with this in a bag of sorts.
