Guys... just like the droid and eris, you won't see all this verizon crap all over the phone. It clearly says VZ Navigator is available in the android marketplace. to me, that's not saying it's going to sit there on your home screen. you can get it from the marketplace if you choose. i don't know why people are so worried about it, just read what it says.

Thought I was the only one who saw that. Was going to comment on it myself....but couldn't get on the site

Not sure if this has been asked, but if you buy the phone from VZW online through the pre-order route, will the rebate be a mail-in or instant like at Best Buy mobile.

Anyone think today was a pretty good day to be a member of the ***Official HTC Incredible Thread***???

Just my 2 cents, but i think today was pretty damn awesome...

What's a friendly neighborhood Guide to do these days but plan an incredible getogether/reunion...

how about a 6 month or 1 year reunion from the 29th of april where we all come back on and post in a thread called reunion of incredible owners. And then we call all start planning out our next phone together lol

yeah same here. didn't understand why people were complaining about it. i think it's pretty clear! no worries about that stuff. hell, i wouldn't mind if the new NFL thing was already on it haha

verizons not locking down anything either... just like the droid. you can fully use gps and google maps, nav, etc. so what if there are just a few pre installed apps like skype mobile or NFL. if that's your biggest concern, you're in good shape.

i hope they dont lock it down. not like the eris code named "fort knox" and they still havent sucessfully rooted that phone.

Question: who in this thread is paying retail for the Incredible?

Another question: If you aren't paying retail for it, would you if you weren't upgrade-eligible?

Out of all of my 5 lines, none of them are eligible for promo pricing until next year. $600 makes me a little sad, especially considering I'll be lucky to get 1/3 of that for my Eris on Craigslist or eBay. :(

I might be shelling out retail ... I got an Eris a little over a month ago... I was unable to return it and get my BB Storm out of a coma within 30 days, (I was out of town for two weeks visiting parents and didn't have a car >_<

I was hoping that I could sell my Eris but know that it's officially EOL in May I probably wont get much for it... I almost feel bad selling it b/c it SUCKS!
Plan A: I'm sort of 'seeing someone' who works at VZW down here and I'm hoping he'll take care of it for me...... (not buying it, but doing what he can on his side to play around in the system...)

Plan B: Add a line & make the Incredible my primary phone and then canceling line and eating the ETF..... $350 is less than $600....

Plan C: Hoping to book enough makeup gigs to cover the phone in cash by release date but it's not looking good.

Plan C: Pay retail upfront and not buy groceries or anything for like a month...

Plan D: Put my Pole Dancing 101 skills to work... Atlanta is the strip club capital or something.... <---- JOKING

i don't think it's going to be. from what i hear, the droid wasn't. things like the gps are usually involved in lockdowns but verizon definitely says all google nav and map apps are available etc. doesn't seem like we'll have a problem.

My only thing is I find that back pretty fugly. Wish it was just smooth. Hopefully there will be an aftermarket back for that.

Here's my question. I am a relative NOVICE at messing with my cell phone. I've used bitpim to get er um . . . stuff for . . . um little to no money per month. However, I would like to know is:

1. What does "rooting" a phone mean?
2. What is a "custom ROM"?
3. Is it worth it to "over clock" the processor to put it at least to 1GHz or over 1GHz?

I know that with all of the "tutorials" and info out there, I could likely do all of those things with 100% success, BUT is it worth it?

Thanks.

If you say that the documents contradict each other, most of the posters that take exception are those that are trying to say that maybe trusting the Android developers and other contributors that actually had hands-on experience with the device are the ones to trust in this regard.

None the less, I suggest the concern should be directed towards the "trusted source" and their publishing conflicting information. How hard is it to get their story together? Marketing is center! ;)

Look, no company is perfect but compared to others (cough - AT&T - cough), VZW has been amazing open and has chosen not to gimp or close down their Android phones. It's really been a big turn around from where they used to stand but I do think it's something that people appreciate. From the Google Nav for free to the new Skype deal, I think that they're trying to show that they're changing and being more open. Are they perfect...heck no! But no company or person is. I'm glad to see the direction that they're going. As a long time customer, I NEVER thought I'd see it happen.

definitely agree...

Why eat the ETF? $10 month x 24 months = $240
$240 life of added line < $350 ETF

Unless I'm missing something.

i hope they dont lock it down. not like the eris code named "fort knox" and they still havent sucessfully rooted that phone.

BUT is that VZW or HTC (yeah, I know the current root came from HTC leaking the ROM)? The Droid has been rooted for ages, right? So I'm not sure that VZW cares in some ways. I mean, look, they have you in a contract so what do they care if you root your phone? If it gets fried or something in the process they're COMPLETELY off the hook.

Can be for the features you gain. BUT you have to be adventurous, you completely void your warranty & support if you have a problem & they find out its rooted.

Rumor is that the Inc is plenty fast as is and you'll definitely sacrifice battery life if you overclock.

Hey everyone...Long time lurker (since long before the Newsradio fiasco), first time poster. Just wanted to put my $0.02 in regarding the Best Buy insurance/protection plan. My understanding, based on reading the terms and conditions, is that they will attempt to repair your phone. If they can't repair it, they will replace your phone with a comparable product, meaning it could be replaced with a refurb. It's only if you have to go in for a 4th repair that they will give you a gift card for the phone's market value towards the purchase of a new phone. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I do have a question regarding the Verizon (Asurion) Insurance. On the site, when I go through the process of selecting the features, you have the option of selecting the the extended warranty for $1.99, the insurance for $6.00, or both for $7.99. Is there an advantage to paying the $7.99 or can I just select the $6.00 insurance?

btw, thanks to everyone for making this an enjoyable thread to keep up with and those that were able get us info regarding the phone.

Be a good girl and Daddy will buy you a new phone. :)

Love,

Daddy

but then again the moto droid was rooted because cyanogen found a loop hole that someone left open. and since then its been patched up. which is why the milestone, as its called in other parts of the world, still does not have full root access.

but then that might be carrier specific idk
