Official Ice Cream Sandwich Watch Thread

I was browsing over to the incredible forums... they have over 800 posts waiting for GB... we have GOT to catch up. So here goes - the official Ice Cream Sandwich Watch Thread. :D

HOLY COW - looks like ICS is officially confirmed for us. Let the party start!!!

This is especially good news maybe some devs can get some freakin' drivers so all the cameras and mics will work with proper AOSP roms.

I don't see this ever happening. There isn't even a sniff of a leaked version of this OS let along a version for the Inc2.

Why is everyone in the incredible forums waiting for gingerbread? They've had gingerbread roms for an eternity, I used to have one.

I think your average user would rather have an official OTA download rather than a third party rom. It's like buying an album and getting the album art rather than downloading the bootleg copy with mismatched file names.

Well, maybe it's nothing like that at all, but I understood what I meant.

LOL.. That's great. :D

But that is true. Most average users would prefer an official ROM rather than a third party custom ROM. And there's pros and cons to each. Personally though, I would much rather run a debloated and rooted ROM. But, I also generally know what I'm doing, whereas your average user does not.

my cousins sisters best friends husbands brothers neice knows the receptionist for a tech guy at vzw and said there would be ice cream sandwich sometime in 2011......

totally kidding, lol.

It would more than likely be a custom rom, as I'm sure you are well aware, because even though Verizon and Google are two of the biggest names in the U.S., they also seem to be the slowest getting things accomplished (other than Congress). It's odd that Google lets any and every manufacturer out there run their OS. Surely it's not about money. Huawei, really? Casio, really? There is too much hardware out there for them to stay ahead of the game.

Sorry for the rant. I don't even think this post was relevant. On a side note, I hope Casey Anthony doesn't enable geolocation on her phone when she gets out of jail. That's dangerous.

I posted this just to be amusing, and really, because I do hope we get support for a while yet on this phone.
That said, what are some features that would be welcome with ICS? I want the ability to toggle sense on and off.

It was in a press release that the major manufacturers would provide updates for ALL devices up to 18 months after release. :)

Please keep this thread about ICS speculation

As we all know ICS is out now...
Here is hTC's official statement

We are excited about the latest update for Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, and are currently reviewing its features and functionality to determine our upgradeplans. Our goal for Android updates is to give every customer an improved user experience, which means balancing each phone

I KNEW we needed this thread.

My speculation is that ICS will not trickle to us, b/c it takes HTC forever to bake sense in. When they do, they gripe about specs.

However, as a fully supported CyanogenMod device, I am cautiously optimistic that we will get CM 9. However, that will probably take a little while.

From what I've read, it took about 6 months for us to get GB. I would expect it to be longer for ICS since it seems to either replicate a lot of things already in sense, or make them akward. It certainly changes almost every aspect of the phone, unlike GB, which focused on a few key things. Like Gadams said, they may very well have to start from scratch.

I think hTC should rebuild sense from the ground up & might very well have to to accommodate 4.0.
I wonder what will be first handset to run it, will it ditch the 4 capacitive touch keys and be on screen like the Gnex?
Hmmm.... Interesting...

Very interesting idea, i think that could be something awesome if they did!

Fwiw, ICS will have an option to hide the onscreen buttons

Do you mean that on the devices that get the ICS update, they will have the option to/black out/disable the backlighting/hide the 4 capacitive horizontal row of touch keys & run the on screen set like the Gnex?

For example like on my dinc2 now that I am using, I could choose in the settings to disable the keys after I get the update & would have the option to use the on screen ones or still choose to use the 4 capacitive keys if I want to?

Or, do you mean hide the on screen ICS style ones & stick to using the traditional 4 symbol keys?
Sorry if that's kinda confusing...

lol! I knew what you meant.... disclaimer: this is only my *slightly* educated guess:)
You will be able to disable the ICS on-screen buttons. I see it being much harder to disable the capacitive buttons on actual phone

Quote from mobileburn site:
" The Taiwanese company claims that it is still evaluating Ice Cream Sandwich and working out its plans to upgrade the myriad of Android devices that it offers. We don't know whether or not HTC will bring the full Sense treatment the new OS, or if it will opt for a simpler customization scheme, since many of Sense's highlight features are now offered natively in Ice Cream Sandwich."

If they opt for light customizations it might not take as long, giving us a rather stock experience & not weighing it down with sense.
I for one, am very interested to see what they do with it...

I can't wait to try a beta ICS rom for Inc2. Although I am already very happy with the available GB roms.

I just hope ICS can run fast and smooth on the Inc2. I like all the eye candy I've seen so far from ICS, but if it's sluggish on the Inc2, then I'll just stick with GB. But I'm guessing it will work great on an OCed Inc2.

I'm excited to see what my favorite devs will do.

IF HTC releases ICS for the Inc 2, I have a feeling it will be about the time I'm due for an upgrade. I would like to read more about what hardware requirements ICS needs to run smoothly.
