**** OFFICIAL **** ICS COMING SOON thread... Post all questions and info here!!!!

When you got your phone, did you register it online for warranty purposes on the Motorola web site? If you did, it's defaults to participating in soak tests. That's what happened to me.

The Razr with ICS is now THE device to have on Verizon. It completely makes the Galaxy Nexus seem like junk and beats Touchwiz on the Galaxy S3 by a great margine. The Lite Blured is fantastic.

Sorry had to say it after all the Razr bashers the last few months ;).

One thing I seen posted....ics on the razr shows the different decibel readings for the different networks in Settings. When its on 3g it shows both the 1x and 3g readings, they are different. I noticed that on all 3 networks: 1x, 3g and 4g the decibel readings were different.

Moto seemed to learn from the g nex mistakes. Unless 4.0.4 on the g nex does that too.

And whoever has ics on their razr....it may default to global in networks. I remember for the droid 2 global that drained the battery cuz it wasn't needed in the US. IIRC..

I did not get the soak test, I did not get any email from Motorola, I didn't even know how to sign up, nor would I.

I got a notification from Verizon only that they were rolling out the update.

Then I got the update.

I don't think I can be any clearer, that I am not a participant of any soak or early release.

Sharon... it is not unusual for individuals outside of the SOAK test group to occasionally get the updates at the time of the Motorola SOAK tests. Motorola does not verify MEID's when people register for the MFN. Occasionally theperspective MFN member enters an incorrect MEID. When that happens, someone other than the individual requesting to be in MFN get a free gift in the form of an update.

Enjoy the update! You got it about a week or so before the rest of us get it...

Excellent reply. My Razr and Maxx both defaulted to Global. Never would have thought to look.

If that is the case, I need to un sign up then for soak testing.

I wouldn't like being the tester for OS updates. I rely too much on this phone.

Members of the feedback network participate in the soak test - They get the new releases a few days before the general release. I've heard conflicting reports if what is going out now is the soak test or the general release. Figured it couldn't hurt.

How does one register for the feedback network?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.

Just for fun, I signed up for the feedback network just now. But, when I tried to register my phone, it said my serial number was not in the database. I got the serial number via several methods:

  1. From the VZW store receipt I got when I bought the phone.
  2. From settings->about phone->status->IMEI
  3. Looking on the inside of the SIM/SD card door.
  4. Dialing *#06# (which dropped the last digit)
All were the same number except the last which dropped the last digit. Tried it both ways and neither worked. Now I'm wondering if there's a chance I won't get the update.

ditto, thought it was just me.

Same thing happened for me. Serial number not found.

Sharon / anyone 8-) ............ Are you a FoxFi user and if so is it still working post ICS update on the Razr Maxx?

I ve just about completely drained my battery looking for the update.... my bat drains in abot 8 hours.... i hope ics helps... browser makes phone run hot as well

I'm sure once Jellybean is outdated, and octo-core phones with 1080P displays, 4 ghz of ram, 128gb internal storage, and 6G data speeds are commonplace, along with long distance charging without special cases or cords, we will probably get our updates.

I'll save an extra briefcase car from the jetson's for everyone to try out too!

Perhaps you missed it above, but the update is already rolling out. Some have already gotten it. :)

Is it true that you can not just use 3g data by turning off 4g on ICS?

Is it true that the notification volume and the ring volume cannot be adjusted separately on ICS?

Eh... partially true. It's a work around to get it to stay on 3G and not 4G but it IS possible.

Not true. They CAN be adjusted separately. :)

I haven't tried it and I'm not even sure I'd advise doing this for a non-root phone or a phone that isn't yours... but it sounds like this might do it.

Even though the OTA is rolling and my phone is stock, I went this route. Aside from the instant(ish) gratification, it allowed me to set up my phone over the weekend rather than during the week when I SHOULD be working.
Before running the install I read pages and pages of messages so that I'd understand what snags folks were hitting, and what to do about them. The install was painless, I did hit one of the snags but it was easy enough to fix (it was well documented in the thread).

So if you're looking for another way to get ICS, this one works. However the OTA would ultimately be easier, and take less time to research.
