ICS finished download with Wifi off and then it said "the update could not be properly validated. Please try again. Suggestions? I tried the download again with WiFi turned on and bluetooth off and still recieved the same message again. HELP??!! (please)

Finally got ICS. So far I like it. What I don't like is that I got a text from VZW saying that from YESTERDAY, the data widget will no longer automatically update. Boo! Then what good is it?

Just saw you are in NC. I'm in Charlotte and no ICS for me or my daughter. I don't think the roll out is regional but it will be interesting to see if you and we get it close to the same time. We both have the RAZR and I think we have callouses from looking for the update!!

Hot damn!! Downloading the update right now! I got up early and went for a bike ride before it got too hot. Got back, ate breakfast, played a little Words With Friends, and said hmmm, why not check for updates? I fully expected a "your system is up to date" but was pleasantly surprised with the update notification. :D

I know it's somewhere within these pages but can someone explain what a factory reset will do and what/if I need to do in preparation for it?

I think it's recommended because some people have problems after a major software update like this. I'm going to try it without a factory reset of course, because I just got the phone the way I want it.

A factory reset wipes everything on the phone and restores it to factory defaults, just as if you took the phone out of the box brand-new. Make sure to back up anything you want saved. Contacts are usually backed up to Google, and in most cases pictures and music (if stored on an external SD card) usually aren't touched. You'll have to reinstall all of your apps and if you have saves games and what-not, your progress will be erased. But if you've rooted your phone you can install Titanium Backup to backup your apps, games, etc. Hope that helps!

Someone mentioned rebooting the phone to make the update appear... I rebooted my phone this morning after my bike ride because Strava wouldn't upload my latest ride. It said there was no network connection but there clearly was. The ride uploaded and I checked for updates a short time later and there it was. I don't know if one has anything to do with the other, but thought I'd mention it.

Woke up at 3 am and checked for the update and there it was. Now have ICS and im trying it out now. Lost root though. But that will be a simple fix.

I'm having the same issue. Downloaded 3 times now and getting the exact same message. Tried rebooting between each download, no luck so far. Ugh!

Installing now, but the circle stopped moving at " Android is upgrading... Starting applications" ?? Does this step take more than 10 minutes ?

Yes, that step took about 10 minutes for me. And I would recommend letting the phone sit for about 5 minutes after you get the completion notice as it's pretty sluggish until all the background processes complete.

Got ICS yesterday - California, Sacramento
Came after I did a factory reset. Not sure if that was just coincidental or not.

Got it at about 3:30am. Installed fine but now the email app just says "waiting for sync your email will appear shortly" but it never does. What do I do?

**Never mind! Answered my own question. I had to go into the email account settings and manually change from auto to login for both incoming and outgoing. For some reason this setting changed while ICS was installed. Now it is fine...**

Got it today in Pittsburgh. Installed and running. The phone did not save the populated frequent called list, it appears it must re populate over time.

The screen brightness after the reboot after install was turned to manual and almost totally dim, I had to go and enable auto again.

I love the stacking ability of the application shortcuts. I created a news stack, a travel stack and a social attack. It turned a full screen of icons into 3 organized stacks.

So far it looks good.

I performed a factory data reset, which corrected the problem. I did not reset the internal or external SD cards when I performed FDR.
