**** OFFICIAL **** ICS COMING SOON thread... Post all questions and info here!!!!

Now I have been using the phone with the upgrade for a day and started reading these things and I was curious would it be better to factory reset my phone now even if it seems fine? What would it help improve exactly? Cuz I got 100+ apps installed and that would take a lot of reinstalling and using the apps to get my data back. Also I personally don't want to root and titanium backup this stuff either cuz although I have rooted before, it was on a simpler phone and not through adb and I'm afraid I would screw this phone up by rooting it

Just a note, but during an upgrade such as this, some number of phones will be, and are expected to be, warranty exchanged. When the 2.3 update came to the Samsung Fascinate, mine never rebooted. They shipped me a replacement. When my Samsung Galaxy Tab upgraded to 2.3 it started having force close after force close. Did factory resets, and ended up shopping it to Samsung and they had to re image the device. It does not always go according to the plan. Just be calm and work with Verizon and they will hook you up with a replacement if required.

ICS so far is a nightmare! I backed up root, unloaded it, dl the update which went fine. During install it stopped at 'starting apps' and I let it sit for a hour and it was still frozen, so I hard rebooted and it started up fine. Looks like all the apps are there. But it runs so hot it trips the thermal circuit and I can't get it charged unless I turn it off! And it's burning through the battery when it IS charged so incredibly fast I can't keep it going. I mean it drains in a couple hours! So I've been painstakingly going through every app, seeing if it's that. I also checked every setting I can find to see if something isn't set right. The screen is set to minimal. I may end up having to go back to GB or something because this thing is presently unusable, totally!

I suspect you need to do a factory reset to make your phone work correctly.

I got the update yesterday morning around 6:30am and I let it download and install. It took about 30 mins like everyone said, pretty much my car ride to work. When I got to work it was just finishing up and updating apps (117). My work ended up closing bc we had no power due to a storm that rolled through darn :) lol. So I went back home and started messing with the phone. So far everything is great and fast. My home screen isn't sluggish nor the the keyboard. I went 13-15 hours on my phone yesterday off of a 70% charge. So I'm happy. I'll test it again today.

Yeah the battery life has really impressed me. I went 13 hours yesterday and was still at 50%.

Rooting ICS on this phone is extremely easy. Download Matt's utility here: Droid Razr Utility 1.7 [For Ics And Those Who Want To Go To Ics] - DroidRzr.com and select option 3. Let it do it's thing and bam your rooted.

Absolutely, positively do a factory reset. Back everything up and do it. After I upgraded yesterday, my phone locked up 3 times in a couple hours, I had to do 2 factory battery pull restarts, and it was draining battery like crazy.

Did a factory reset, and works like a champ. A pain in the ass to reload some apps, but well worth it.

I just have it set to auto and all my stuff set to sync every 4 hours.
Can someone please tell me how to use the screen shot feature?

Power button and Volume down. Seems to need to be pressed at the same time, exactly at the same time or as close to it as you can. I do have one screen shot where you see the volume bar in the screen shot....lol

Screen shot is same as simulated battery pull, just not as long. I tried rebooting, and got a screen cap, then reboot by not letting go.

Sorry to read that some people are having a rough time with ICS. I have a stock phone and let the OTA file install. Everything works fine with never having to do a factory reset. No battery issues, no keyboard issues...nada. I like the improvements I've seen so far, just disappointed that some of the functions available on other phones didn't make it to the RAZR.

Had to do a factory reset. MAJOR PITA. Gotta love it....now I've got to reset a crapload of apps and data.....sigh....just the way a OTA should work, huh....

my email won't work and I can't fix it - is there anyway to roll ICS back to the previous OS?

Thanks.

All these problems with the new OS, hmm. Honestly i got the ota, then did a factory reset. Havent had any problems. I did loose root, but not a problem. Hopefully everyone gets it all sorted out.

I got the OTA and I haven't factory reset or anything and I have been perfectly fine. Still contemplating a factory reset to see if my already great experience would be improved if I did one. Also considering rooting the phone too.....

Is there a way to back up all my apps before I do the factory reset? Mine is running majorly hot after the update, and it seesm to be slow in charging (and I need to get it to 25% before I can even do a factory reset). Anyway, if there is a way to at least back up my apps it would make life easier.... Thanks.

Mark

I see a lot of people mentioning a factory reset after the update.

If you have ever rooted or installed a new ROM you will notice that the developers recommend doing a wipe before a new install. This is to clear out a multitude of things that may or may not cause conflicts with the new ROM or a ROM update. If system settings are changed then the old settings may cause a conflict.

An OS update and one on this level really isn't any different. You are taking all of these new features and settings and installing them over old data. A factory data reset is like an oil change for your phone. It wipes away all of that old information and allows the new information to help the phone run the way it is supposed to.

Mine's done with the reset and think I got most of everything back the way I like it. Had to reinstall root. Voodoo no good through a reset. It is much better now thankfully but I have yet to really run it through its paces to see if it's running better than GB or batt life or any of that yet. Next few days will tell the tale of whether it was worth the upgrade.....

How do we hide apps in the app drawer?

Is there any way to set ringer volume and notification volume together like on GB?

Thanks!

Suddenly after ICS install now uninstalling any app takes a very long time, about 2-3 minutes no matter how large or small the app is. Anyone else experience this behavior? I'm rooted and installed ICS using Droid Razr Utility 1.7 because I could never get my soak test install to complete successfully.
