Official "I've got mine" + user-reviews thread

I've been using mine a bit more (have earlier posts). The recent firmware update really has reduced the lag issue but it is still there and still a bit annoying. Also movies (2 hr movies) tend to consume about 20% of the battery using dice (these are 720p mkv h.264; not high profile which are more cpu intensive) so I can watch 2 movies and do a bit more on cross country 6.30 flight. wifi defnitely eats a bit of juice and the lag can be a bit annoying (I tend to open lots of pages in tabs and swap between tabs while other pages are loading (over lap reading time with loading time) and the infinity is not very smooth doing this; the excite 7.7 does a much better job here - no detectable i/o lag.

no random reboots; no force closes but my app usage is very limited (movies on the plane, browser/email on the ground - airport/hotel and such) and an occasional game (i need to find a better game ....) during long airport waits and such.
-
Oh yea and an occasional pdf file or such that comes via email.
-
I like the asus mail program and it is handy to have the doc/pdf readers available.

Other than $$$ the only complaints I have are the i/o lags and i kind of want more screen real-estate - maybe 12 or 13 inch. I might check out the excite 13 when it hits the local store.

I should mentioend that I played iwth an excite 7.7 (also tegra 3 but lower resolution) and it has none the lag I've seen on the asus infinity; it also has weak speakers but otherwise is very nice (good build; no lag; lots of ports).

Just got it today. First impressions are that it's a solid device, it feels pretty sturdy and well-built. Main gripes are the lack of JB (I imagine that would cut the lag by more than half) and the fact that after 8 hours of charging it's still not even half-way charged (though to be fair on the thing I'm not using the official wall charger, or even something similarly rated).

The screen is fantastic, too. I have no idea about the light-bleed criticisms, though - owning a Nexus, all I can say is that the blacks on every LCD ever are complete and utter suck in comparison. Still, the screen is incredibly bright, colours are accurate, it's high-res, all that sort of thing.

I would love it if Chrome could always request the desktop site - 10 inches is far too big for any mobile site. One thing to note is that in many cases, the lack of tablet-adapted apps is not a major issue. Why would you even want an app for Facebook or Twitter, when the full website works perfectly? Aside from the push notifications, that is.

Oh yeah, and there's no NFC. Minor issue, I guess, but it would be cool if I could initiate a wireless file transfer between my Nexus and the tab just like that.

Overall, it's amazing to have. I'm just waiting on being able to afford the dock, so I can well and truly stop stealing my mum's laptop.

Had my Infinity a few days now and all I can say is....Wow!

I came from a HTC Flyer. I change because I was using a tablet more and more and the Flyer was proving too small. Plus with the lack of updates it was quickly becoming outdated and losing value.

I was torn between the Infinity and the Galaxy Note 10.1 initially because I had really made my mind up that I wanted a 3G tablet so I didn't want drain my phone with the wireless hotspot. However, having had the Infinity in my hand there was just no comparison. What a wonderful build quality. I decided to manage without the 3G. This has actually turned out to be a non issue as I can tether using Bluetooth and I'm still getting good battery performance from my phone.

I'm in Thailand and the Infinity has only been available for a few weeks and the only version available is the 64Gb complete with dock. Works out around $800. Don't know how hat compares with the USA and Europe.

So a few days on and I'm still playing around getting it set up how I want. Battery life seems pretty good. I expect it to improve over the next week or two as the batteries get cycled. I was initially missing HTC Sense but managing just fine without it.

I am so far really impressed. It's fast, I haven't experienced any freezes or hangs so it's so far so good. The only thing I was missing was the cursor keys on the tablet virtual keyboard. I searched out a few alternatives but wasn't impressed. Then I found Hacker Keyboard in Play Store and have to say it's really good with the bonus being it is very much more like a full PC keyboard very customisable. I'd recommend it for any Android 10" tablet.

Well, it's early days and I'm sure I'll be hanging out in the forum to pick up tips and share anything of interest.

Cheers.

Just got my 64GB unit from Amazon yesterday - a big improvement over my Xoom tablet. The display is so much better and it is definitely faster. I love it so far - no problems yet.

Interestingly, Amazon just posted the following "Item under review" note for this unit:

"While this item is available from other marketplace sellers on this page, it is not currently offered by Amazon.com because customers have told us there may be something wrong with our inventory of the item, the way we are shipping it, or the way it's described here."

I never posted in here - but I bought my 64GB unit (with lapdock) on 5 Sept 2012. Initially I had no build quality issues, but after playing Bard's Tale for several hours, I can see some of the points being made - there are creaks when certain areas of the screen are pressed, and the left side of the lapdock also clicks out of and back into place. That game has also caused my Infinity to reboot several times while playing - game will freeze, then 5 seconds later the Infinity reboots.

Other than that, though....wow. battery life on standby is amazing. Connected to my home WiFi (with the WiFi extender being on the other side of my bedroom wall, so great connectivity) I left the combined unit off the charger for 3 days with sporadic usage - every time I came back to it the lapdock battery had barely decreased, and the tablet battery was always at 100%.

I'm really, truly glad I opted for the Infinity instead of the Note 10.1.

Now to find a damned good case for both that lets me easily remove the lapdock for tablet only use.
