Official MetroPCS BYOD discussion thread

Ok, I got one I haven't heard asked before.

So I have my Spirit now. If I were to get a N4 and then have the $10 Sim in my hand along with both the working Spirit and non-active N4, could I

Call Metro on the Spirit giving them the numbers off the N4 and activate the Sim asking them to switch me over to GSM (thusly killing the Spirit) as soon as I hung up?

Or whut?

Yes. They will ask you to turn off the spirit. Don't call from that phone. All you have to do is give the the number on the back of the phone and they will activate it. You will have no problem because the Nexus 4 is already unlocked.

You can do it online. I have done it both ways. But i found it easier talking to an agent. It is easy either way.

I've called Metro once.

The person I got was in Mumblejambia.

I no comprende' Mumblejambianese.

I tried to crawl though the phone and strangle them.

I don't think I'll be calling unless absolutely necessary.

That happened to me once a few years ago because they were indians with very heavy accents. Now they are using americans. Just call metro and press 0. You will be talking to an agent within 5 minutes. Good luck.

You know when I called the death star to unlock my atrix I got a nice Lady with a very very cute southern voice called metro got the guy who pretended to be american. I swear nothing like a native helping you out.

Silly question but is it possible to add Insurance months into a contract?

Also, what if any are the cons of using At&t phone on metro?

I just switched from AT&T to metroPCS and i unlocked my htc first. I found a few versions of what the apn settings need to be, however I cannot get LTE. Am I screwed because its not a MetroPCS phone?

No, insurance has to be added when you buy the device. I don't believe there are any cons to using an AT&T phone on metro, should be just fine.

Couple of things to check
1st off have you ever had LTE or checked if you're in a LTE coverage area
2nd is this the APN you're using?
apn carrier="MetroPCS LTE

mcc="310"

mnc="260"

extraid="6D"

apn="fast.metropcs.com"

user=""

password=""

authtype="0"

server=""

proxy=""

port=""

mmsc="http://metropcs.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc"

mmsproxy=""

mmsport=""

type="default,mms,supl"

The only thing with AT&T devices is most you'll have to modify I think the modem to get AWS HSPA, which is the main HSPA+ band and runs at HSPA+42 in most areas. If you're in a modernized market though I wouldn't worry but if not you'll only be able to get 2G or LTE if you have a LTE capable phone

I just have a quick question. Will an unlocked phone work with the metropcs BYOD? Its not from AT&T or T-Mobile its an unlocked Galaxy s4?

The area has LTE with metro on a metro phone but not on mine

We'll they're currently running 2 LTE networks
-The old pre merger network for CDMA phones
-Then the Tmo LTE network which metros GSM and BYOD run on

So if it's a CDMA phone running LTE that could be why

I have a galaxy note 2 on Metropcs byod. I root and enable Tether however when I connect to hotspot on desktop metropcs Pops up with error. Anybody got a solution? Thanks

Take it to local and see if they can anything. If not you are screwed. The transition is better from t mobile to metro since they are using the same network.

Yea change your user agent to googlebot or IE9 you can get a switcher in chrome from the chrome store

what is an HTC first? and I googled it, just because it's a GSM phone doesn't automatically mean you will get LTE.

Is this dealer in a reframed area?
