I can tell you they do throttle simple mobile for a fact. I did a side by side comparison T-mobile Note 2 with T-mobile service vs my T-mobile Note 2 with Simple Mobile, my data was almost half of my friends, unless they've changed that.

Did you see if both were on the same HSPA+ band? By checking *#0011#

honestly, I didn't, it's been a good minute since I did it, we checked they were both running on 4G, I don't remember if LTE was out yet, the note 2 was literally just released at the time.

Oh the end of last year they probably were throttling then :p

Still dont think Simple Mobile has access to LTE
 
So from what I've gathered, as a new customer, I will need to bring my Nexus 5 to a Metro PCS brick and mortar store so they can register the IMEI with a new SIM?

Or can I order the SIM package online before hand, and just call to sign up for service activate it when my phone arrives?

You can order and activate yourself or go to the store (for $15 activation fee) it's just you have to go to the store when switching SIM's

What about keeping your current metro phone number? Is that automatic when you activate a BYOD with the metro sim?
 
I wanted to upgrade my Metro PCS phone to the Galaxy (I717) Note and found that model to be compatible with Metro's new SIM card. I found a ATT Galaxy Note in mint condition on Ebay for 200 that was like new.
I contacted Metro support and they told me that I can simply put in the Metro Sim card and then just transfer my account there.

It sounds to easy but I was wondering if the phone itself would need to be unlocked or what other measures I have to take before I can do this as I don't believe this phone will come unlocked.

Also what is the cheapest way to unlock this phone if I end up having to do so.

I appreciate any help or advice on this.

Don't even waste time on a note 1, you could probably pick up something t-mobile branded for cheaper or around the same price
 
T-Mobile phones have higher chance of being blacklisted. nonpayment or reported stolen.
Old AT&T phones only have to worry about phone reported stolen.

Yeah had to pay the $15. Not sure if the device imei had to be registered though. The guy just put the sim in & saw that it would work then just asked for my phone number & that was it.
 
Quick question..im going to buy a note 3 this friday.. the guy is selling it for 550..and he said it works fine..thing is im scared if i buy it and put service on it it will get blacklisted? Because he still has service on it and im pretty sure he hasnt paid it off etc??

If you are buying it used, then your best bet is to meet in a Metro PCS store so it can be cleared there as not stolen. From there, you should be all set.

Even if so, if the device gets blacklisted afterward(for example, 3 weeks after the purchase) supposedly metro will lock it out for lack of a better word.

that's a pretty good price, alot of bad IMEI ones are going for that on ebay, this guy offered to trade my note 2 and $200 for a NIB T-mobile Note 3, either color, still debating to see if they do release an "active" version.
 
He told me it was paid off he also said he is willing to meet at a tmobile store to confirm it is and that its active..so i guess that is my best bet..

that or if he does the transfer of service to another device in front of you at the store, so the service of the old device will no longer be active and you'll know its clean slate.
