Official MetroPCS BYOD discussion thread

Man the Metro PCS registration fee (for gsm devices) is the biggest rip off I've seen from a carrier in a while. It totally screws up the independence of owning a Gsm device. I don't see why there is this requirement when they are using the same network as their parent company and their parent company have no such restriction.
Last month when my friend's phone developed some problem I offer to lend her one of my many unlocked phones. These include T-Mobile note 2, Galaxy s3, Sony Xperia Z AT&T iPhone 5. This is when I learned that to use any of my devices on metro pcs I would have to pay $15 each to register on their network before they will work. What a scam...

:wavey: HEEYYYY WAIT.....
Call 1-888-8metro8 from another phone, get tech support have them register your IMEI and SIM S/N. FREE
Must have the MicroSIM purchased mine online from MPCS

That's the initial registration to swap you need to go to the store and it's $15
**Well apparently it's no longer necessary in store

not a scam, if it was, they would be hiding it, they tell you straight up, if you don't like it, don't use it, its really that simple, you can easily call 611 and they will switch devices for you at no charge.

Thought you can only call for activation

negative, the night I got my note 2, I had to call it in to get it switched over, the only thing you need to tell them is your keeping your same sim if your already on BYOD, unless you have a new sim obviously, and to make sure the IMEI of the device is clean, and they will do it.

Yep. I totally agree.

Oh guess it was changed when they started selling the sims online then

possibly, I don't remember to be honest, I just remember I got my phone at like 2AM and I called it in and they just added it no questions asked, how's your note 3 doing?

No worries though I know they've been making some huge network changes the last 2 weeks, like just today some of NYC got their bandwidth doubled to 10x10 so just gotta wait till they work everything out but other than that great

if it's nationwide network changes that could be why mine is acting up too, didn't know about that, thanks, but I still might get a note 3 lol

that's actually pretty quick, the N2 pulled as high as 34mb I think, honestly, I'm tired of switching phones, I just want something decent I cant break, hopefully I will be able to get a note 3

im getting around 20-30 here in Orlando..i hope I could get those 60s..honestly after being on tmo lte I don't even care much lmao.. im sure 20 or 60 it won't be much a difference aslong as youtube doesn't buffer when im trying to show off the note haha

amen to that, I just want my battery life to be good, other then the regular essentials, if I hadn't gotten so spoiled with the note series, I would have just got the S4 active and put a mugen extended battery on it

I already read the posts regarding the Nexus 5, but I still have a doubt and I was wondering if someone can clarify this for me. I currently have an LG Motion, but I want to activate a Nexus 5. Would I need to get a new SIM or would the SIM in my Motion work?

That's a UICC for LTE only so yes you'll need a new card
