Official MetroPCS BYOD discussion thread

Hey guys... I want to go and purchase the S4 from at&t, out the door, no contract... Take it to metro pcs and get the sim card... My question is will I run into any problems / issues.... Thanks... I want to get it today! :-)
Will this phone have to be unlocked first?

Why from AT&T? Why not from metro isn't metro cheaper?

not sure if youll get lte and yes it will have to be unlocked

thanks for your quick response Shabbypenguin...What would have to be done to get it unlocked and if I dont have lte would my internet still be available? Ive been reading alot on BYOD but its still a lot that I dont understand

Hi new optimus thanks for the info ...I think Im go to go with the at&t version .....I want the 32GB that they have,Tmobile only have th 16GB Ive read some of the info you sent me in the links...I think I can handle the unlocking process...about to start reading the aws link, now... P.S the guy that I talk to over the phone from at&t said they dont unlock them

Hopefully they can sale the sim cards online soon and will be able to switch phones by ourselves or just call metro since switching through the phone is free.

Hey guys can I just go in and purchase the sim card or do I have to have the new phone with me?

yes metro was my first option ....but now I cant find it on their website???
And I think that I want the 32GB:p
That right there is a good reason, long as the cash isnt a problem.;):D
I did not read through all the xda post on getting t mo aws but I know the Note2 it works some people have indicated that the signal is not as good, compare an att phone with this mod against a stock t mo branded in the same spot. but I have no real world proof of that.

It appears at this time they require the phone in person, they enter the imei into their system and while you would think you could just give them the imei and be good most places wont do it from what I have been hearing.:(

Yes you have to bring the phone, because when I got my galaxy skyrocket on the BYOD they had to manually enter some information. It's a really short process though...Unless your their first byod customer. Hopefully in the future we can do this ourselves free of charge

There really should not be any information they need to enter:confused:
If they had to enter the imei, which I dont see as needed both att and t mobile have been using gsm for long time now and this process is not needed, They could enter the number with out the actual phone there.

I think at this time they may be having people bring them in because 1. the customers used to be cdma and so dont know any better, thus they can charge money for this.
2 they want to eliminate user error with this process.
and 3. they may not be set up yet to check out imei's for blacklisted devices.

The tmobile network automatically does #3

One quick question guys...will I be able to get insurance on my phone if I purchase it from at&t and activate it at metro???

Just unlocked my brand new AT&T Galaxy S3 myself using the xda forum method. Went to Metro corporate store paid $10 for the sim and $60 for the all unlimited plan. Im in the Dallas area and the 4G speeds are incredible. Gonna try and post a pic of speeds. I also asked if my brother could bring his S3 because he didnt pay his bill and it was under contract. She said as long as its not blacklisted at the time of activation it will be fine. She said if they blacklist it later and he switches phones then tries to go back yo that one it wont let them activate it again. So apparently as long as its not blacklisted at time of activation it will be fine as long as it stays registered to the account.

Well they're wrong they wont be able to activate blacklisted device and if ones already activated then gets blacklisted the tmo network won't allow it to connect

I'm still Phone Shopping, by the way any one got a frequencies sheet with 3G/4G/HPSA so we don't buy the wrong phone?

Any phone with HSPA 1700/2100
AND LTE 1700/2100.

A simple list would include all newer t mobile, though only a few are LTE enabled.

Most At&t phones that have LTE will work for lte but not many will allow HSPA 1700/2100.

The ATT galaxy note, note2, S3, and S4 can all work, though with varying degrees of work needed.

What is the "device able to make cellular calls" with the largest screen n best specs(4+ gb ram / 64+ gb drive hopefully) @ each of Windows/android...n also hopefully both lte n 4g?
