Root Official OTA ROM

yes. but, youll then be running incompatible radios with mr1(if im understanding the post correctly) so either before or after flashing the radio in hboot, youll need to also flash the update rom. :)

edit: beat me by 2 minutes, lol

Lol :)

been searching this for hours and cant find anything. i do not want to unroot, because of the issues. so there is no way for me to get this new radio (OTA) on a stock rom, rooted? i will be doing the BAMF 3.0 gb later date though.

There is a rooted stock ota Rom. Download it,wipe and flash it in recovery. :)
Actually, it's in the op of this thread lol.

Scotty: How did you go about creating your backup of preroot OTA? Did you actually load it up, lose root, then backup, then go through the rooting process again?? Sorry if its a stupid question.

i have wiped and wiped and restored, i try to install from zip on sd card and i get install aborted.

You are in clock work right? What did you restore after wiping? After wiping data, cache and delvik cache, goto install from SD card then choose zip then you pick your Rom.

Just remember radio in hboot roms in recovery. first make a backup of your current setup in Rom manager before flashing anything.

no,its not a stupid question at all,and im actually a lil surprised youre the first to ask it ;)

first off, this is one of those "do as i say,not as i do" things,as it involves modifying and flashing a file in hboot, wich can have disastrous consequences

i downloaded the leaked RUU.extracted its files with 7 zip. removed the images for hboot and recovery(so the s-off and clockwork wouldnt get updated),zipped the rest of them back up,renamed PG05IMG and flashed it in hboot. it overwrote every other partition,so your description is pretty accurate. i was running non-rooted firmware with s-off and a custom recovery. i couldnt use any root only apps, overclock, etc. i could, however, get to clockwork and make a backup of the unrooted rom.

it was risky, and not really neccessary-defiantely not somethin id reccomend trying unless you have a good understanding of what youre doing.i was just impatiet, lol. you could delete "superuser" from your app drawer while running the rom linked in this thread. to someone at verizon it would look 100% just like my unrooted one. as long as they dont look at your hboot screen or recovery, theyll never know ;)

i flashed the superuser app in recovery so i could run it rooted for awhile, but i wouldnt have had to do that. all i needed to do was go to clockwork and flash a rooted backup. no need to go thru the root process all over again.

it doesnt matter how many security things a developer tries to sneek into a rom to try and block root exploits. as long as you have s-off,you can hboot or flastboot flash a custom recovery and your back in business.

being able to do things like this is why i love htc phones so much :D

Just going to clarify before I get this (btw thanks for the update!) that XDA states it WILL NOT work with MR1, correct? I think I'm still on MR1 but not really sure (going to google how to tell them apart :)) so I want to be safe before I make the plunge ;)

if youre firmware is 1.13.605.7 youre on mr1 :)

correct, the mr2 radio needs the mr2 update,or a GB rom in order to work.

Awesome, thanks! And getting the MR2 update, is that simple like flashing a ROM or more intuitive? I've been doing some searches to find info but all the websites and links I'm finding are things like "install MR2 radio" which doesn't help if I'm not on MR2 yet. I think I heard something about a battery pull somewhere though, I'll have to see if I can find that thread.

coming from rooted mr1, youll need to install the radio and the rom.

i like adb,and our original instructions from the GB leak were to flash the rom, then the radio,so heres what id do:

1)download rom and radio. rename radio PG05IMG. move both to root of SD card
2)plug in your phone,open a cmd window
3)adb devices to make sure its there
4)adb reboot recovery
5)on your phone, make a backup, wipe, flash the rom like you normally would.
6)when its finished, instead of "reboot system" type adb reboot bootloader (adb shell then reboot bootloader if adb reboot bootloader doesnt work)
7)the phone will find your PG05IMG radio file, check it,and ask if you want to update. tell it yes. when its done reboot
9)delete PG05IMG from your sd card

other people have done it alot of different ways with no apparent bad effects,so do it however your comfortable. you can install the radio, reboot, install the rom. or you can install the rom, reboot, then install the radio. i personally dont like pulling the battery in recovery to get to hboot, but thats a personal preference. lots of folks have done that as well.

scotty85. If im on mr1 the only way to get the new radio is to do the steps that you jsut posted?

well,i did say this:

 ;) :p

the important steps:
1)flash the mr2 radios in hboot
2)flash ANY rom that uses mr2 radios.

it dosent appear to make any difference what order you do those steps,or if you reboot the phone in between,or even if you pull the battery in recovery after flashing the rom so you can power on into hboot to flash the radio.

like i said,i just personally prefer a "less abrasive" method than the recovery battery pull.

for those considering running,or are running, the OTA,ive been on it since last night. i had some issues with bluetooth wanting to not reconnect if i got far enuff away from the phone for long enuff. i thot it was somewhat laggy at times... i think the custom roms for the most part are much smoother. it also had pretty terrible battery life

Weird I found the opposite to be true, my battery life on the latest ota blows BAMF1.8.6 away

Awesome, thanks scotty! Being a dev I'm totally used to and trust ADB 150% more than any other method (plus it's pretty breainless, really) so I appreciate your simple response :)

ADB it is! I'll update you all tonight or tomorrow if I don't have time.

I believe it's more of a kernel thing. The kernel that comes with the ota is probably what's giving you the better batt life. At least thats been my experience.

So to make sure I get it, after flashing the new ota radio, my phone will now work with gb roms? Can you recommend a good sense gb Rom as a starting point?

Battery life seems about the same for me, if not slightly better. I have noticed that I lose data briefly a couple times a day, and the past few nights, late night, >2am sometimes it drops to 1x. This is really no different than the leaked MR2, so can't say for sure its a radio issue.

Maintenance maybe.. idk?

We'll see if anything changes on Thunderbread, didn't pull the trigger last night and ran CM7 for another day.

I haven't noticed any difference on the new radio, reboots seem to be better but my reboot issue is not very extreme. Flashed Thundebread today and wow, takes me back to my D1 days with liquid frozen yogurt, phone is blazing fast, I don't really miss sense as much as I thought I might.

Rc5 hasn't released yet. You downloaded pre rc5. It will have a few bugs.

Side note I downloaded the rooted ota so I could keep a nandroid of it in case I needed to take the phone in store. "incognito" ;)

I just did the same thing.
