Yes, this was my experience also. 3D Watchdog shows I went from 1.29% usage up to 15.9% :( Wireless was connected also.
 
If you turn your data off, then change the date, them turn it back on, you get enough time before it syncs time with the network to try for the upgrade.

I use juicedefender to cut off my data when I'm not using it, so that made the process pretty easy.

But I still havent been able to get the update. It always says it cant contact the ATT servers.
 
Mine doesn't pause at 50% and sit, it goes to 50% then says update fails and reboots takes like 5 seconds for the whole thing to happen, it does pause a bit at 34% for like 1-2 seconds, then it jumps to 50% udate failes reboots, on startup....update did not apply with an OK button...
 
Endoran, I agree with you, this update is a total joke. Samsung tech support is even a bigger joke, call them three times in a row and you get three different answers. AT&T, although helpful today, seems just as frustrated as the rest of us. However, they aren't doing much to apply pressure and force Samsung's hand.
 
Give it time to finish, it seems a lot of people are thinking the update fails or freezes around 50% and the freak out.


Start it and just sit your phone down for abit.
 
Okay, we have some mixed results here, it worked fine for me and did improve my GPS, but others seem to have had problems. We are getting way too many threads on this, somebody that isn't a techie could end up really getting confused.

I was within the 30 days so they gave me a brand new Captivate [claiming it used my 'one-time exchange']. Haven't tried the update yet as I'm still trying to get everything back on the phone (haven't pulled my backed up stuff off the phone before it bricked...).
 
My update process was very iffy and I'm still not sure if it actually went through. Under Firmware Version, it says "2.1-update1". Is this the one that we are getting updated to?

ok... I'm a little iffy... some people have it failed, some didn't... I use my phone for my clients and for personal use.... So I'm nervous cuz I'm one week after my 30... what do you think? Should I?
 
You can always use a backup app to keep your data safe on the micro sd card. Titanium backup is a good backup app.
 
I flashed my phone back to stock with Odin (to remove my root and lag fix) and tried to update.. no dice. Boots up saying "no update was applied".

Any ideas?
 
question:
after i install the update, will everything be returned to stock? ie. i will lose all my themed stuff and settings and my phone will no longer have the I9000 Eclair ROM it's running now. if so, can restoring a backup of said settings work?

%$#$! The video player now defaults on *full* brightness, even if the brightness level is set to minimum. This makes watching videos in low light next to impossible due to the eyeball-frying brightness.
 
I updated to this new version tonight, and it kept my Root and One Touch Lag Fix. When I ran my Root Apps for the first time after updating they did ask me for permission again, no biggie.
 
My wife and I both have the captivate. I have rooted both phones. I tried to get the update with my phone and it says that it cant connect to the att server. So I figure its because of root right? So I unroot my wifes phone and wala she gets the update. ok must be the problem. I unroot mine and push the date to do the update and still have connection issue. I now cannot push the date any more and have to wait 191 hrs to try again.

Anyone have any ideas? PM me if you know.

Hi everyone,

I'm not necessarily new here, but this is my first post. I decided to make an account so that I could post my results on the forum. Prior to the update, I was not able to get a GPS lock at all without wireless networks on. I had tried everything that was posted here and on other websites with no success at all, but I decided to keep my phone because my sister has an Iphone 4 and to me it does not compare even without gps function on the captivate.

I tried the update, and I noticed improvements in the GPS feature immediately! I got my location almost instantly, and locked on within a minute or so. Now I know that some people might take that as a placebo effect, but I am coming from almost no GPS functionality at all. I never had GPS, even when it was brand new! It simply didn't work without wireless networks on. Even if I did get my location before, I was never able to use Navigate or Google Maps because it couldn't lock onto any satellites.

Summary:
I applied the update successfully, and GPS is drastically improved for me (At least for now)
