Official OTA Update Discussion

I wonder if the OTA update is counted aginst your 200MB quota. It's a question for AT&T customer service, and if it is ask for a re-rate if you exceed your 200MB because of it. My experience over the years is that they're quite accomodating. Of course you could get someone who's in a bad mood and, if so, simply call back.

Hmm...I'm not sure. I have 3G watchdog to track my usage, even if its off by a few MB each week, that didn't count it on the quota, but I'll have to wait for it to show up in the old 3282 alert later on tonight, I haven't used 3G at all today so if I see a spike of around 12MB then I'll have to make that call.

Thanks for the help!

*3282# = best code ever :) It has saved my wallet more times than I can count!

if you bricked it through the update youre out of luck, mine is on its way back to samsung. if youre just bricked but the screen still comes on you can use odin.

I checked the software update for the update. It found it, downloaded, installed, and rebooted without a problem. It said the install was a success. A few minutes after the reboot, the phone did lock up. I let it sit for a few minutes and it showed no sign that it would clear up, so I removed the battery and restarted. Since then, the phone is working just fine for me. I don't know what all it was meant to address, but my quadrant score remained generally the same.

LOL! Nice.... :)

To get the update, do the following: Go to Settings, Software Update, Check for update.

Then just follow the instructions. You don't have to wait for a text from AT&T. The update is not done online, it is done thru your device (OTA).

As a reminder...

For those lurking who have not yet updated, after the OTA download to your phone the update process itself will freeze for a while at 50% and then continue. After the update is fully applied the phone will re-boot and hang at the glowing "S" for a long time. Don't panic (unless it's a personality flaw that you find somewhat gratifying).

every time i try that i get connect failed is there another way

This may or may not help, but it's apparently harmless. Repost of contribution by emuneee. It's basically an enema for your OTA update database.

I stumbled upon this while looking for the DB that stores all the OTA update information...because somehow I managed to do something that resulted in my waiting 8100 hours (~370 days! LOL) before I can check for an update again.

You need to be rooted for this to work.

Open ADB/terminal emulator and run the following commands:

su
cd /dbdata/databases/com.wssyncmldm
cp wssdmdatabase.db wssdmdatabase.bak
rm wssdmdatabase.db
reboot

What this does is it backups up your wssdmdatabase.db file and deletes it. This file stores the timestamp in which you last ran a manual check for an update. The OS won't let you check for an update until you are 24 hours past this timestamp. Deleting it forces the OS to recreate it again and allows you to check for an update as well.

Well, I bought mine in the AT&T store so they exchanged it for a brand new one (Was within the 30 day period). Actually, I exchanged 2 more phones today as GPS was completely broken as well as other issues - and no recovery mode. The CS Reps at AT&T told me to go right back to the store and and don't leave until they give you a fully functional unit (they even wrote that under special request to the store under my account). I must say, people have issues with AT&T but if you get the right CS Rep, they are extremely helpful.

The one I just got now seems to work well so far. 8 out of 10 satellite locks with 10seconds of walking out the store and stayed locked on me the whole way home. Recovery mode. But still no update.

Hello everyone, new to the forum and new to Android and my Samsung Captivate. I purchased my phone a month ago.

Yesterday, I ran the "Software Update" and received the latest update everyone is talking about over the air. It updated just fine, rebooted the phone, and says I am now running the latest Baseband Version I897UCJH7. Every thing works fine with the phone, except:

Now I cannot run Software Update again. Every time I push Software Update I get a message in a box that says "No Firmware" and that is it. I have pulled the battery and fully rebooted the phone. Everything else works great on the phone, but now I can no longer perform a software update it seems. Not good, as I'm eagerly anticipating Froyo and want to update as soon as its out.

Any ideas?

There isn't any more updates just like the phone told you....you are already up to date.

Your phone is perfectly capable of updating, there just isn't anything for it to download.

Froyo isnt' gonna be until the end of the year probably, so don't get all excited.

When you try to withdraw money from an empty checking account, are you expecting money to come out?

I was rooted with sideloading enabled. Update "failed" -- I have the new kernel and new JH7 firmware revision number listed on the phone, but some things behave like the old firmware (LBTestMode number entry still works, media scan still takes forever, etc.) and the phone still thinks it needs to perform the update. It tried and failed again today.

I tried unrooting and getting back to stock without actually flashing Odin, but that didn't help the update. /sigh.

I updated mine yesterday no problems... not really noticing much of a difference besides they changed the computer connections and now I cant tether my phone... the youtube widget is updated... gps seems to be the same for me(not that good). speed seems about the same... my music player still jitters while running the gps which really bigs me... just ran the quadrant test and got 774 about 100 lower then normal...
