It's like announcing the new 2011 Super Sport Coupe Turbo and then holding off from releasing it while they make "adjustments" customize it for the US market, then maybe release it in Oct, and around the same time announce the 2012 Super Sport Coupe Turbo S Limited Edition Convertible. How the hell are you going to sell the 2011 model, who would want one when they could just get the 2012? Anyone see what I'm getting at here? What other industry does this?
I see what you did there and all...
But it doesn't quite translate the same to the smartphone market.
First off, you can't compare the 2011 Super Sport Coupe Turbo with the 2012 Super Sport Coupe Turbo S Limited Edition Convertable.
These are different Grade Products, meant for different audiences.
If your going to compare this to the auto indusrty....you'd have to compare the 2011 Super Sport Coupe Turbo to the 2012 Super Sport Coupe Turbo. And given that...most auto manufactures let their new model design ride for atleast 3-5 years before offering a new model. This timing works out nicely considering most people are looking to upgrade right around that time.
Now translate that to the smartphone industry....the Samsung Galaxy S II is a top grade Android phone. The Q4 Android phones are ALSO top grade Android phones. They speak to the same audience....unlike your auto example above.
Again...I understand your point, in that you'll be waiting on the sidelines for ever if you keep looking ahead. However, every once in a while....the technology makes more significant jumps between releases than others. This go around, we are looking at vastly improving screen resolution, LTE compatability, NFC capability, and of course....the Android OS to rule them all...ICS.
It's just too significant of a feature jump to pull the trigger the first week of October, instead of the 3rd or 4th week of October.
My intention isn't to knock the SGSII. It's an amazing phone, and is an INCREDIBLE upgrade for anyone in the same boat I'm in. (iphone 3G lulz)
I'm a business guy.....and from a business standpoint, how Samsung has handled this phone is just puzzeling to me.
