Official Release Date Rumor Thread

A release in Oct is silly.

The AT&T version had the least amount of changes from the international version realeased in May...yet its projected to take an additional 5 months to hit the USA, AND release after Sprint?!?

For comparison purposes, This phone was officiall anounced by Samsung in Feb 2011 and then released in May 2011.

Considering the Q4 Android devices set to release Oct-Dec,high probability ICS rolling out in Oct on the Nexus Prime, AND iPhone 5 rolling out in Oct....why would they push to Oct?

This phone needs to be out ASAP to sieze the thunder away from the new hottness in Q4. Waiting till Q4 to release would just be sharing the thunder instead of stealing it.
It's like announcing the new 2011 Super Sport Coupe Turbo and then holding off from releasing it while they make "adjustments" customize it for the US market, then maybe release it in Oct, and around the same time announce the 2012 Super Sport Coupe Turbo S Limited Edition Convertible. How the hell are you going to sell the 2011 model, who would want one when they could just get the 2012? Anyone see what I'm getting at here? What other industry does this?

I couldn't agree with you more, I just don't see them releasing it until around then or heck it could be immediately after the Sprint version. I just thought they would have announced it if it was going to be within the next few weeks.

I see what you did there and all...

But it doesn't quite translate the same to the smartphone market.

First off, you can't compare the 2011 Super Sport Coupe Turbo with the 2012 Super Sport Coupe Turbo S Limited Edition Convertable.

These are different Grade Products, meant for different audiences.

If your going to compare this to the auto indusrty....you'd have to compare the 2011 Super Sport Coupe Turbo to the 2012 Super Sport Coupe Turbo. And given that...most auto manufactures let their new model design ride for atleast 3-5 years before offering a new model. This timing works out nicely considering most people are looking to upgrade right around that time.

Now translate that to the smartphone industry....the Samsung Galaxy S II is a top grade Android phone. The Q4 Android phones are ALSO top grade Android phones. They speak to the same audience....unlike your auto example above.

Again...I understand your point, in that you'll be waiting on the sidelines for ever if you keep looking ahead. However, every once in a while....the technology makes more significant jumps between releases than others. This go around, we are looking at vastly improving screen resolution, LTE compatability, NFC capability, and of course....the Android OS to rule them all...ICS.

It's just too significant of a feature jump to pull the trigger the first week of October, instead of the 3rd or 4th week of October.

My intention isn't to knock the SGSII. It's an amazing phone, and is an INCREDIBLE upgrade for anyone in the same boat I'm in. (iphone 3G lulz)

I'm a business guy.....and from a business standpoint, how Samsung has handled this phone is just puzzeling to me.

So you are still using an IPhone 3G and you're going to hold out til the Q4 phones like the Holiday/Vigor/Prime?!? I have a 3G and IOS4 slowed down my phone to a snail's crawl. I don't think I can wait lol.

*sigh*

Agreed...no reason not to have a confirmed release date on this phone from AT&T...it really is UTTER B.S.

We'd better see a release by late this week or next week, else I'm gonna....

....well I guess there isn't nothing I can do...but I'm sure going to hate it.

Yea...still holding on. I finally caved in to the smartphone market and picked up the iPhone 3G about 2 months before the iPhone 3GS was released *Palm Slap*

I didn't do my research. Had I looked into it more, I would have noticed that Apple was releasing their products on yearly product cycles. I also would have noticed that the hardware in the 3G was almost identical to the hardware in the OG iPhone...and that they were due for a significant upgrade. Had I did my homework, I would have obviously waited out the 3GS.

I've waited this long....another few weeks aren't going to kill me. LOL

I really think ICS is the biggest draw for me. This Android OS is supposed to unify new & old.....phones & tablets. I think (or maybe hope is a better word) that this will allow the Android market of Apps catch up to what Apple devices have available to them. With a less fragmented market, developers will have an easier time creating apps for Android.

I'd assume the SGSII will be getting ICS...but I've learned (after following all this madness) that you can't assume anything.

I love my Samsung products and I want them to succeed in the market....thats why I have a vested interest in their wacky marketing.

Had Samsung released the SGSII to AT&T in the first week of August....I feel they would have had more sales from Android users looking to upgrade, and iPhone users who were bumbed that the new iPhone didn't release on schedule.

Now consumers have the option of just waiting a few more weeks (provided an early October launch) Hell....I think Sept 18 is still too late.

The release date is September 19th according to a YouTube video I found with someone from Samsung speaking. Pricing/availability information starts at around 4:23 in the video.

Actually, I can't post links so look for "Samsung Epic 4G Touch hands-on overview, Samsung Galaxy S II" on YouTube by markdotguim uploaded today, August 31st.

Just to be clear, the release date you are talking about is for AT&T Galaxy S2, and not Sprint's Epic Touch 4G, right?

odd...Att typically does Sunday releases..not Monday

From all we keep hearing though it will most likely be that weekend...(18th if they stick to their Sunday release schedule)

Its not unheard of for at&t to release during the week if I recall correctly the atrix was released on a Tuesday.

technically it was scheduled for March 6th (a Sunday)

it was moved up to Feb 22nd with no real explanation of why. Suspicions were that they felt they would not be able to produce enough units...but then they decided there were in fact enough

:D

That is correct. At the point I mentioned in the video, 4:23, he'll state that AT&T's release date is September 19th with pricing information available later.

Wouldn't be the first time a rep messed up a number during an interview. I remember when the first galaxy-s was first introduced in February last year a rep mentioned it would release with android 2.0. I would be shocked if this phone was released on any day other than a Sunday. I'm hoping for the 18th, but preparing for later.

HTC Holiday is heating up. I am seeing several talks of leaked prototypes on eBay, etc. etc. Also it is said to have LTE. If this launches close to the Attain I think I am going to opt for it instead. I love the Sense UI.

So basically we're still where we were a while ago:

1) We know it is going to be released (we always knew that, just not officially).

2) We don't know when (officially) - except for Sprint.

Same old same old. :)
Look on the bright side, at least you KNOW it's coming. If you were on Verizon, like me, you now know that all your patience and anticipation were for nothing, cause "You ain't gettin' no GS2, how do ya like them apples?" (I'm paraphrasing Verizon, of course) I think this just sucks. Sure, MAYBE Verizon will get the Nexus Prime first, but how much longer do I have to wait for THAT.
The GS2 is, quite literally, EXACTLY what I wanted in my next smartphone with no compromises. I would feel a little less betrayed if the GS2 were exclusive to ONE carrier (like iPhone was for awhile), but now I feel left out of the party.

Ahhh...yes...but verizon has lte

att is getting closer...they flipped it on in chicago last week. rumor is about 5 or 6 more major cities will have it by christmas. thankfully i live in one of those cities

I read a lot of you saying how you're being tortured on your 3GS iPhones, well, I'm still on my EDGE-driven Blackberry Curve! You all make me sick... :) haha. Glad we've finally seen some light on this phone. Still, it's never coming out :) haha. I'll probably pick up the Holiday instead. This phone just took way too long... My fanboy attitude towards it has fizzled out, turning me to the LTE phone instead. Sorry if somebody already posted it and I overlooked the date, but when's the official release of the Holiday exactly? Maybe I can wait another 47 months for that one :)

*sigh* The 18th is exactly 30 days from the day I got my Infuse. If it's not then, I will have to use a burner phone for the interim (assuming it's the same price - $199).

If it's $299 then I will stick with the Infuse.

I thought Verizon was going to get a different Samsung phone? Maybe I'm just confused and it's the Prime..

Lol i feel your pain. While on Facebook last night, I noticed that my Impact shifted from 3G to Edge out of nowhere! Sometimes when I'm in a low-coverage area, it'll go from Edge to whatever the G is.
