Do you mean the ORIGINAL EVO? Yea, there were shortages galore there but it was mainly due to bad hardware & QC problems. It took me 3 tries to get a fully functioning one that after 28 days I returned and got out of Sprint as did many people. Even with that, there weren't people queued up for hours in line waiting to get the first ones as it was pretty much announced they wouldn't have "ready stock" to sell and they had to be ordered and picked up. At least here in NJ. Also that was before the huge influx of 100 different models of Android phones. Most "normal" folks don't care if their phone has 1 core or 6 cores, or 3.7 inches or 4.52 inches, just us geeks.
The iPhone is different, it's the "peoples phone" so like Apple or hate Apple they draw huge crowds. Ask ANYONE you know (or even don't know) if they have heard of the iPhone and ask those same people if they have heard of a Samsung Galaxy 2 or 1.
