Official Release Date Rumor Thread

Good to see it doesn't look all that different. Still dunno what I'm going to do now with the Prime not that far away.

I'm happy about the 4 capacitive buttons. I've had my Epic since release date, 8-31-10, so I'm pretty darn used to it. I hate change. I've always liked the way it is, so I'm glad to see it stay.

Ok so I just got back from my local ATT store. I talked to the manager and asked him if he had heard of or knows anything about the SGSII US version called the 'Attain' coming out soon. He immediately got a "shit eating grin" on his face and smiled.... He said that he hasn't heard of anything like that getting ready to drop. He did say that corporate notified him to have plenty of staff on Sept. 17 for a "product update" and a store rearranging. I told him that the LG Thrill was pushed back to mid-Sept. He said that he DID know about the Thrill. I asked him if it was unlikely that the Thrill and Attain would drop on the same day. He said it's not unheard of for two competing phones from the same carrier to come out the same day. (I'm still skeptical though). He asked me if i was an "Engadget guy", i said no i wasn't. He stated that the people at Engadget ususally know stuff and post it before he hears it from corporate. I asked him point blank... i told him that i know that alot of coporate big wigs will say to keep things quiet, and i know about the announcement on the 29th in New York... but i said hey man, just shoot me straight, if it's coming out on Sunday the 28th i'll be first in line... He smiled really big and told me that he doesn't know if anything is coming down the pipeline that early. He said it'd be a surprise to him and he would bet it's going to be Sept 18th after he gets his staff in for whatever corporate has coming up on the 17th..... so your guess is as good as mine. BUT........ i'm crossing my fingers :)

I am seriously wondering if the celox is the prime.

Att told me yesterday they were given a generic q4 release for theire first late phone....

Celox is not Prime. Celox has WVGA and Prime will have HD screen. Celox is most likely 4G LTE SGSII for verizon. So it will come later than AT&T, Sprint ones.

I don't use the search button either. But I'd rather have an unused, generally invisible button than a physical home button. jmo

yeah that was my other thought..nacho mentioned Verizon would be getting it last.

I can't find much about the Prime...

3 buttons, 4 buttons, all buttons, but we need that phone!!! I'm sick of waiting and using this crap of phone.

I am glad they got rid of the iPhone style home button. I'm trying not to get my hopes up for the 28th, but I'm preparing also..... ordered a 32GB uSD card and USB on-the-go cable yesterday. If it comes on the 28th, I will be ready to play ;)

Agreed. But, to add more fuel to the debate, I just received an email teaser from Samsung about the launch that shows the 3 button phone

I've had the GS2 for a few months now and its really not that great. Basically just an Infuse shrunk down a teeny bit. Colors are unrealistically saturated but it does make it pop, but kinda in a neon cheapy kinda way. I really hope they don't throw a tegra in there because the whole selling point of this phone is the exynos. Thats what really sets this phone apart from the competition. It makes navigating so much faster then all other android phones still google desperately needs to add hardware acceleration to their software as iOS and WP7 still outpace it in standard homescreen/launcher navigation even with much weaker processors. I'm ready for the next best thing give me Nexus Prime or iPH5!!
I completely agree that the colors on the Infuse display are grossly oversaturated. I was hoping that wouldn't be the case in the SG2, but I guess that's just the nature of SAMOLED Plus. Another thing I noticed on the Infuse display is that text and icons looked pretty horrible in that the lines were not very crisp or well defined (in both respects I always felt the Atrix qHD display was much, much better, contrary to the opinions of some other posters). I was hoping that this was because of the hugeness of the Infuse display and relatively low resolution of SAMOLED plus and that it would be less of an issue on the SG2's.

My question to you is, do you share my feelings on the text/icons issue and, if so, is it any better on the SG2?

This is just one of "conspiracy theory" things lol...but the SGS2 at the end of the video has a date of Friday 09/09 on it. Wonder if that could mean anything? (Friday Sept 9th?) :D

I didn't catch that. Could be, we'll know for sure on August 29.

Still can't wait to see what they're announcing at IFA, could it be the samsung I9250(Prime) or is it an updated gs2. D=

I'm no expert, but here are my thoughts:

I feel that the 480x800 pixels is really great for 4" screen and under and pushing it a bit for the 4.3" screens. Once you get up to the 4.5" displays the pixels will really become even more apparant, but I'm not waiting for the phones to come out this fall with the sharper resolutions.

I'm used to my fiancee's iPhone4 which has a super-fine display...so I'm being a bit picky on this subject, but in the end I could probably be OK with the 480x800 on a 4.3" screen.

I looked at the Atrix for a very long time in stores because I felt it was possibly the best fit for me (Not too big, 4" screen, dual core, "4G" and so on) but the display completely turned me off. The pixels are very apparent, and images looked downright poor compared to other screens. I know opinons will vary, but for me, this one issue took the phone from a "probably purchase" to a no-deal for me.

Friday is a Sprint release date...and isn't that the date that is floating around as release date for them.

that's going to suck if they get it first :(

for those that don't remember..I just left sprint haha

So now we have evidence of a late August release, and now a possible Sept 17 - 18 release. Ugghh...lol. I hate this.

where did you see those dates?

It is noticeably better on the sg2....I have the infuse..I know exactly what you are talking about
Thanks Mr.Ed. Just to clarify, though, when it comes to text, I'm talking about both system (OS) fonts as well as text on web pages and QuickOffice. How do these look on the SG2?

much cleaner and crisper ...less "jagged" is how I always explained it when referring to my infuse
