Official Release Date Rumor Thread

in general, if you upgrade on-line with AT&T, and lets say, you accidentally click a different data plan and knock yourself off your unlimited, you can still call in that night and they should change it back for you. Thats why you always call in after you go to the store to upgrade(cause reps are careless sometimes). However I do not know if this would apply In your situation. So I will not pretend that I do know. Best way to figure it out is call in to AT&T, and explain your situation(record it if you can, because you know they are recording you) Or just wait for one of the all knowing Eds to reply ;)

As far as best buy goes, you will need to find one that will price match, as most companies will only price match local competitors, and Amazon is not local... Maybe have them pricematch Walmart or something

false. already upgraded once since they put the cap in place. kept unlimited.
If you grandfathered the Unlimited plan for smartphones, you're good to go forever, they won't change your plan (unless some clueless rep messes up).
I have now the $15 unlimited for non-smartphones. Needless to say, once I'll get the SG2... bye-bye unlimited. :(

If you call in and complain they should fix it for you (put you on the $30 unlimited)

If they don't let me know...

I have unlimited on att....and I have only been a customer for 2 months ;)

isn't that going to be a verizon phone? what's it matter to us?

no idea ... but the info I posted back on the 14th shows GSM bands

Cellular:Networks: GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
Cellular-Data-Links: GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+

should know more soon. last he mentioned of it it would be on att but who knows for sure....he is the same goober who told me 9/2 for the attain and then changed his story to 10/2

AT&T is great if you complain enough. Verizon would pretty much tell you to go F yourself if you had a complaint, but AT&T always gives you what you ask for. I got a free micro cell for my house (normally about $200) because I exaggerated a bit and said I got terrible service at my place, had no land line, etc. So, they sent me one free of charge and now I get full bars in 90% of the house. You can also complain your way out of a restocking fee when you want to upgrade. Don't get why people complain about AT&T's customer service so much.

since i am a broke college kid, i was thinking about getting either the thrill or the gidim from amazon wireless. (fyi i am grandfathered in to at&t's unlimited plan that's actually unlimited) it looks like amazon only gives me options to change my plan, rather than keep exactly what i have and just get the phone (they didn't even have the same minute plan that i'm on)...guessing if i don't go through at&t, i'll lose my unlimited data, huh?
If you are a broke college kid you should be spending your money on things other than expensive cell phones and plans so the "broke" part evokes no sympathy. :)

Even if you upgrade online directly with AT&T there is no option for unlimited even if you are grandfathered in since that plan is no longer available. You will have to call in and fight with them or purchase directly at a store face to face with a rep (who probably will screw it up anyway). No matter how you look at it you will probably have to fight with them. They are hopeing that most people will just let it go but if you press them they will switch you back.

Are you sure? I upgraded my friend about a year ago, there was an option on there, granted i dont believe it was called unlimited, but it was still on there. you just dont change whatever is ticked

When I got my Infuse I had no option so I went to the store and they did it. It is possible it was because I went from iPhone to Smartphone and technically it was a totally different plan. You may be right wrt smartphone to smartphone.

This thread got derailed

Yes, there are multiple threads of conversation here, many of them not related to the topic of the OP, keeping the folks entertained whilst waiting to find out when AT&T will release this phone.

At least, on this forum, there are not self-appointed forum police compaining bitterly. :)

Samsung Galaxy S II AT&T specs

If you look at the details below, it says 9/18/2011 (official)

With that said, the write up was written right after the announcement (when it was said the release date was the 18th but then retracted). I don't know if there has been an update to confirm the (official) tag there.

omg... what are you guys smoking??

"Release date: unknown"

" AT&T - Upcoming Expected release date: 18 September 2011 "

In his defense many of the news sources that were at the release have or at one time had the date of the 18th on their story.... within 24 hours "most" pulled it and either changed it to speculated or unknown.

as for upgrading and data...the only way the unlimited option still exists is if one is upgrading from an iphone 2g on the 2g unlimited data plan.

the information is all over the web...look it up :D

oh crap. that's what i have. poop!
i thought as long as you had a data plan you were okay?

lol, normally i would agree. howeverrrr my impact is going to bite the dust any day now, and i've been bitten by the smartphone bug. :) i'm planning on saving for a while and continuing to hold on to my upgrade til the price drops a bit. assuming, of course, that my impact doesn't get much worse than it already is. it likes to re-start itself without warning, and its new favorite thing is to send texts to the wrong people, or not send them, period-it says the message sent but the person on the other end doesn't receive them. (and it's not operator error lol. it'll send a text that was intended for someone whose name starts with a 'v' to someone whose name starts with 'a', so it's not like i just didn't click down the list far enough.)

Not really. I thought so, too, but when I bought the Infuse, they told me (I called 611 and I talked to a manager, obviously) they cannot put the $15 Unlimited plan on a smartphone. As Mr Ed suggested, maybe I'll try to get the $30 unlimited, being with them for... 6 years or so.

Today I visited an AT&T store, where my sis had to pick a phone for her daughter. I asked the seller when SG2 will be available, he had no idea what that was, until I explained "Samsung Galaxy S2". Then he said the phone was not yet released in the US. D'oooh. I asked him WHEN and he said maybe the manufacturer has more info. I dropped it.

LOL, I've been there ... except it was before BC (before computers & cell phones). At least it was during "the summer of love." That was a lot more fun! ;)

Yea, except if you look carefully the phone says "Sprint" on it. Nice commercial though.

Actually they use different models throughout the commercial, you can easily tell by the rear camera (the Sprint one is a vertical rectangle, the others are more square) and there are no carrier markings on the device until the end anyway. And also at the end, it shows ATT, Sprint, TMO, Best Buy and Radio Shack logos/names.

Has anyone actually added a line to a family plan and gotten unlimited data??

My sister has a family plan with two lines total. Both were grandfathered into the unlimited data. When my sister called to ask some questions about adding another line (for me), they told her the new line could not get the unlimited data for $30.

does this mean I was (mostly) right?

I heard from a few sources this Iphone trick does not work anymore with an already activated sim card, but it never hurts to try. or just order a new sim as most phones come with a sim arleady linked to the phone

supposedly some guy a few post back said he just started with AT&T and threw a fit over the phone and they eventually gave it to him. If you plan on getting it with AT&T anyways, it doesn't hurt to try both options. I would try calling customer service and begging first though :P

Edit: I think maybe it just doesn't work if you have a data plan existing on the phone line
