Official Release Date Rumor Thread

I don't know about any of you, but I think I'll go to the Sprint store tomorrow to check out the Epic 4g Touch....just to see if I'll still want the AT&T Version.

Been following this thread for a month now so I figured I would add something. I called the 611 number today and spoke with a level 1 support person. I flat out asked her about the phone. She really didn't know what phone I was referring to. She put me on hold and came back only to say that the only thing on her system was the Galaxy Tab. I gave her some more details(such as it releasing tomorrow on Sprint) and she asked me if I minded being put on hold again so she could call Samsung.

Upon coming back she told me Samsung stated it would release tomorrow(as in the 16th). I asked her if that was the Sprint version or the AT&T version. She stated again that it would be on AT&T tomorrow.

I'm not sure if I believe her or not. I believe she was truthful with me and helped as much as she could. If she's wrong then I figure that they mixed up the Sprint and AT&T version. I would think that if the phone actually released tomorrow then the level 1 support people would have had training and would know the details of the phone.

TIFWIW, it might be worth a shot to call your local AT&T store tomorrow.

When I got the Tilt 2, I called in 3 weeks later for the newton's ring issue, the first person I talked to had no idea what phone I was talking about, and had no idea what a newton's ring was ;)

Does it bother anyone else that the Atrix matched or beat the GS2 in most of the benchmarks?

I know I've seen other reviews of the international SGS2 and it was always at the top of near the top of its performance tests, and it did beat Atrix. A dual core 1.2 1Gig ram versus a dual core 1.0 with 1Gig of ram...the SGS2 "should" be faster....but even if it really isn't I'm not too bothered by that.

I know the SGS2 is a quick performing phone and thats all I need to know. Not to mention, the screen is much better.

Don't get me wrong, I like the Atrix very much and had the intentions of buying one until I actually got a hold of one in the store and saw the screen quality. (horrible if you ask me). So I tried another store....same quality. It might have a qHD higher resolution screen, the the arrangment of the pixels on that penTile screen really just killed the deal for me. Pictures and photos looked terrible.

If it weren't for that, I'd be a happy Atrix user right now.

I called two local at&t stores today. One said if it was to come out this Sunday, they know by now. The other be said he heard an October date. Called sprint and they said tomorrow for sure.

Anantech did the latest benchmarks on US SGSII (not sure it was at&t or sprint one), and it still blew everything out of water in graphic performance by nearly 2X. So I'm not sure where he's coming from on Atrix being faster.

So the 18 of September isn't happening now? How is it that this date is the only date being reported by so many websites but yet AT&T doesn't know that it's supposed to come out on their network that day? This is really getting old.

ok i called a local AT&T store on TUES Sept. 13. I asked when the galaxy s2 was coming out he said "we're actually having a meeting regarding that phone tomorrow, so you should call tomorrow because we'll have more information on it."

Wednesday 14Sept. got out of school I called and asked the lady if she knew when the official release date for this phone was. She said we just got information about the phone and that there is no official date for when it's being released, BUT it IS coming out this September. I asked if it was for sure in September she said yes.

you can quote me on that but i'll do better; heres the AT&T store i called, ask for yourself: 1222 W Lathrop Rd, Manteca - (209) 824-9333 "Parrot AT&T"

If it was missed in my post....I am saying it isn't coming out tomorrow....

sometimes your posts confuse me brother Ed :p

OK I will explain my post in full detail and put it in 1 message so I don't confuse you:

You said: "Samsung has very little to do with the release...but I am totally willing to eat my words come tomorrow morning" (translated: No way it's coming out today - if it does, you will eat you words that said it will be out in Oct or in that timeframe)

I replied in total agreement with you: "You better find something else to eat because you won't have to eat your words." (translated: You are absolutely correct, since I agree with you 100% that it's not coming today out you WILL NOT have to eat your words because you will be correct, so find something else to eat - besides your words!)

My goodness ..... a store salesperson told you so IT MUST BE TRUE! Please read all the other 1500 messages about what store people say here and on every other board on the web. I don't doubt what you were told, and anything is possible, but they know as much (or as little) as everyone else and most of the time are just blowing you off.

So after talking to my local store today and yes it's a Corp. Store, the worker who I deal with all the time flat out told me it has now bee pushed back to release side by side with the new iPhone!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhh!!!

Seriously, you people are so gullible. Why would you think someone working on the retail level would know anything about something AT&T has kept secret so well?

Is there any reason why I shouldn't just go down to a Sprint store and get one today?! I'm only staying with AT&T because I'm grandfathered into my unlimited data plan. But Sprint has unlimited data and messaging for $79 which is 20 bucks less. Is Sprint service just really bad or something? I've heard that their "4G" isn't fast but is their typical data and cell service at least as good as AT&T?

Data speeds are 60% slower......4g is non existent.. poor customer service

If you guys think art customer service is bad you really have no idea

I had to force my phone to use Verizon towers because I could not get data. In the end they cancelled me for that reason (excessive roaming)

Yea...I haven't heard too much good about Sprint's service. Every person I've seen on these forums comment on it said they weren't exactly excited about their service.

However, it appears Sprint is trying to compete with their attractive plan pricing and the fact that they positioned themselves the be the first one releasing the SGSII, AND will be featuring the iPhone 5.

I tested Sprint for 28 days with the original EVO and fortunately one of their 4G towers was basically in my back yard. Their 4G is a WIFI service not a "normal" data service like the rest. They use a provider called "CLEAR." You can check for you coverage here: Wireless Internet from CLEAR 1-800-313-1277

I got a consistent 5-6Megs down but as soon as I drove 1000 yards from their tower it was no better than "regular" 3G. I am in the NJ/NYC metro area.

I went back to AT&T which is where I have been for probably 25 years through all their different names. Metro One->Cellular One->AT&T->Cingular->AT&T and maybe soon AT&T&T if they succeed in paying off the right politicians.

All providers stink and it comes down to choosing one which provides the best coverage for you. Never choose a provider based soley on having a specific phone.

Oh, the best thing about Sprint was (is, if it hasn't changed) their 30 day full refund policy. If you cancel within 30 days you get every penny back including activation. Try that with Verizon. AT&T isn't quite as bad but does charge restocking fees (which you can get refunded if you use AMEX to pay for it).

That changed of today. Now you only get 3 days to get your activation money back, 14 days to bring the phone back, and you pay for the plan (pro-rate I am guessing).

Geez, Today! That sucks. I guess they finally smartened up and have become Verizon Jr.. :)

In the immortal words of Emily Patella ....... "Never Mind!"
