***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

There's a phone case I bought for about 10 bucks on ebay, it has a flip lever that retracts on the back so you can stand the phone up. It's easier than a dock, charger hooks right up as usual, no plastic contraption to deal with.

OEM Snap On Case Samsung i500 Fascinate Vertical Stand - eBay (item 390263457568 end time Jan-16-11 13:54:09 PST)

I had that but the stand breaks very easily. What I use now is the battery charger to hold up the phone when I view videos in bed.

Phone fits nicely in the curved end there even with the case on it.

I have both. I've had the case since I got my Fascinate in mid November and it's held up fine for me. I got the charge mostly for the Micro SD Y adapter and the extra batter, but I've used it a few times as a stand. I like them both. In fact, the phone fits in the charger "stand" WITH the above case on it. Yay overkill! :D

US Cellular posted an official statement on its facebook that the Mesmerize won't be getting Froyo until March. Isn't that the exact same phone as the Fascinate? Hope that doesn't mean we have to wait until March

I guess that means a television company OTHER THAN SAMSUNG will be getting hundreds of my tax return dollars.

And my next phone will be LG or Moto. This is beyond ridiculous. I mean, once again, there's that .01% chance that on monday we'll get our Froyo, but Samsung has literally done jack diddly to support this device. To take THIS LONG with MILLIONS of Galaxy devices all over the world is beyond shameful. It's akin to HTC's support of the Eris. There's a phone that really benefits from Froyo big time because of its pansy processor. It has Froyo because of the DEV community. A bunch of volunteers on their own time can bring Froyo to these phones, but a multi-billion dollar company cannot? As much as I love the hardware on this device, the software support has got to continue. I know this thread has a lot of venting, and I have been cool-headed up until now, but I just have that aching feeling that Feb to March is the time frame we will be getting our official 2.2, and that is embarrassing to me as a device owner. After the Omnia burned me once, I am starting to regret giving Samsung another chance.

Does my device work wonderfully? Yes. Is it customized pretty much exactly to my liking? Absolutely.

Custom launcher
Custom clock
Custom kernel + overclock and undervolt
Sweet battery life
No stock crap or bloat

Why do I have those great benefits on my phone? Because of some brilliant and hard working dev's that don't even work directly for samsung, as far as I know. And also because of a lot of near sleepless nights and tinkering around with my phone, entering shell commands, swapping kernels, etc. on my part. Their OTA updates so far have addressed exactly NONE of the issues I personally have with the phone. Granted, the updates have helped some, but they haven't helped me one bit.

Reminds me of some 3D bluray players that got released a while back. Folks took them home and .... oh, CRAP!! They don't play 3D blurays??? What the!!

Guess who made those ....

A little off topic, but if the 10th is DL09 like everyone is saying, do you think that would cause a shift in the dev community and people would start building on DL09 or just stick with DJ05?

If the Mesmerize were to get Froyo in March you'd think by way of deduction we'd see it first, like in February. Feb to me seems like the most likely month now from all the talk and banter coming out of CES

Okay... I'm on record here as saying I'm with the masses in thinking that Tuesday's update will be DL09 or DMwhatever. An email I got this morning from VZW throws a little gas on the Froyo fire however. First my email to them:

By my calendar, Year-End 2010 has come and gone. So have many suggested release dates for the Android 2.2 for the Samsung Fascinate. Please accomodate the following requests: 1) Mark My current account as closed as of July 2012. Please do not contact me to renew or upgrade.
2) Please remove my name from mailing lists shared with Verizon home phone and FIOS. I have little interest in giving Verizon another opportunity to "take the money and run"
3) Please provide me with the forms to file a complaint with the BBB with respect to the complete and total lack of support of my Samsung Fascinate device. {complaints about GPS and 2.2 follow}
4) Please suspend all billing on my account while leaving my account open in good standing and mark all future payments as "coming soon"
#4 is of course in jest. Could you imagine letting me NOT pay indefinitely while I told you it was "coming soon" Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? Now you know how WE, the scammed, misled and lied to owners of the Samsung Fascinate feel.

The reply:
...In addition, Android 2.2 software updates for devices are being completed in a phased approach, based on area and ESN ranges. Not all devices are being updated at once, due to network impacts. You will receive a notification on your device when the software update is available and it is recommended that you update your device upon receipt of the notification. I apologize for the inconvenience this causes you.

You will not be required to manually update your device when the software update becomes available. You may determine if your device is eligible, by accessing the settings menu on your handset...

Interesting...no?

kernels are already compatible between the two...and with crushd's theme fix, so are themes....since jt has thrown his hat in with aosp, i doubt we ll see much else for dj05/dl09 as really, there is only so much you can do with it :o

As much as I applaud you for doing what most want to but don't deem appropriate, I must say that if I were the CS rep that received the email and I wasn't being held to the fire by a manager or another entity, I'd probably tell you anything you wanted to hear to get you to calm down a little.

I work in customer service. In fact, I do tech support for Microsoft. I can assure you 100% that you will get further with "us" (tech support people) by being friendly, straightforward, honest, and calm. You will likely get further with MANAGMENT on your SECOND communication with them (after the friendly, straightforward, honest, and calm approach with management) using the approach you used above.

Now I obviously don't know the whole story so maybe what you shared with us IS your SECOND attempt at talking to MANAGEMENT and we just missed when you were friendly, straightforward, honest, and calm with the low-level customer service... and then the same during your first go-around with management. But if not, I would take their replies with a grain of salt.

Good call... this was a second message. I always remind myself when writing or calling a CS rep that it's just a poor bloke like me trying to earn a living. And I don't mean to imply that they aren't competent or knowledgeable, rather that they aren't usually the ones that can make a decision either way.
