***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

He said, "Wow, this is awesome." Even though I've been rooting and tinkering for a while, I found myself being amazed at all the cool shiznit out there for everyone else BUT US. Look at the custom 2.2 ROMs you can throw onto your Droid X WITH A LOCKED BOOTLOADER.

I only found a few scant stable ROMs available for the Fascinate, and none are of 2.2 yet, of course.

After helping set up that EVO I want to punch samsung in the FACE right now.

I would like to point out that the vast majority of droid x rims aren't a whole lot different functionality.wise than say jts super clean roms (save for the fact they're 2.2)...they're mostly de blurred roms with aosp apps and no performance enhancements....the exception being obsidian (and the obsidian copies out there) which is aosp but just recently came out after a 5 month struggle....so given the 2 month headstart the dx had development wise....it d be nice to think within 2 months we ll have something equally awesome
 
So has anyone reported getting the update yet? I checked mine...no new software available...:( I swear I've only checked...twice ;)

Nada here, only 6'' of snow

Stupid question, but where would the release be handled from? Wonder if this storm we are having in the SE would delay it?
 
There are still a few articles around touting that shot of "proof" that the MR2 update is coming to Fascinates today, even with invitations to post about its functionality, etc.. Samsung Fascinate Android 2.2 Update To Be Released on January 10th ?

I keep looking at the other device forums where there are complaints about Froyo on their devices ("it slowed my phone to a crawl," "now I can't use mp3 files for ringtones," "my refrigerator fell on my cat," etc :D).

Needless to say, I await ROM developers to get ahold of 2.2 and do their thing for us. They sure did fine with the Eris 2.2. ;)

If the OTA is delieverd by the United States Postal Service, then you are **** out of luck.

Coming from you, I'm not surprised. If you could have 1.5 on your Fascinate you would rather it. ;)

yeah it seems that 2.2 on other sgs phones is actually a step backwards in performance...and that many dont actually upgrade until 2.2 roms are cooked up first.

really, while birdman is working on a .35 kernel, id want an ota for 2.2 just so we can have a working .32 kernel and that samsung would release the source code for 2.2...would make life a lot easier for those guys

yeah htc phones are easier for rom/kernel builders. htc actually releases a lot more than is required of them into open source, and sense is significantly less intrusive to their systems than touchwiz. if we had either 1 of those 2 things happen for us from samsung, we d have had at least a similar situation to the eris...2.2 roms on a 2.1 kernel

but i will say at least that most galaxy s users that are on 2.2.1 report better performance...and the nexus s screams on 2.3...but alas we arent there yet :o

I'm glad we have a couple of "stock" users here, otherwise 2.2 could roll out and we'd never know it :p Seriously, though... I did wonder if there would be a delay in all of us finding out, since we wouldn't get the notification. I was considering taking one for the team and rolling back this morning.

I ran into the mp3 files stop working, whethe for music or ringtones. I realized I had stopped certain services running, a reboot fixed it, and the problem never came back.
 
I feel like a kid on Christmas morning waiting for this update...

... only for it to never come, Mom tells me Santa isn't real, and all "Santa" got me was underwear and socks

(Im expecting to be disappointed :mad:)
 
I called verizon to find out about an update for fascinate and the lady clearly said there was NO update coming down the pipe for this phone and she even went as far to say that since im not happy woih the phone the way it is now that i should take it back and get the droid x because im still in my 30 days since i purchased the phone dec 16. Hmmmm this is alittle disheartening.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news... but this update is not froyo. I just updated after ten minutes of checking for updates, and it was just a system update....:mad:

I've been watching this forum for weeks, like the rest of you, hoping to catch some shred of info related to the release of froyo for our fascinates. Its only today after this depressing discovery that I decided to actually make an account to tell you all of it. As for the GPS...no, it still doesn't work

You are quoting one of the least credible sources that could be quoted, with regard to expected updates to a Verizon device.

So, take heart. ;)

How about some details like where you are at? I don't see any updates as of yet here in Orem,Utah.

what build number are you seeing on your phone now? how about the firmware version? any of the other fields under about phone change?
