***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

Yeah it's a pretty damn good phone minus GPS, email/facebook notifications, and the annoying screen issues when you're on the phone. It also doesn't let me use headphones or speakers in that 3.5mm jack to talk hands free on the phone. That's a big bummer.

Nice point Crucial. I no longer overly bitch and moan since Im basically locked into the SF for months to come and my crying about it does not help :(

You have a defective device. Have you considered talking to a tech at Verizon about repair/replacement?

I don't know about the Facebook problems, I don't use Facebook, but GPS works great on mine, stock, as do the screens and email.

Just for the record, as much as I'm upset about this phone not receiving an update yet, I feel the need to reiterate the fact that it's a fantastic phone. Froyo or not. I've used several phones and I don't think any other phone comes close to matching this phone. The screen is great. It's fluid. Responsive. Has pretty good battery life.

Yes, it's missing a few features. Features we know we'll be getting despite the fact that patience isn't a virtue many of us have (myself included). It's unfortunate that we have to wait as long as we do for fixes for our phone via OTA (assuming you're not willing to root). But in the end, I have to say I can't be happier to have this phone for the next 1.5-2 years. This phone is everything I've always hoped an Android phone would be flaws and all.

Thank you. Yes the die hards want more. We always will, but the Fasincate is a great phone. My wife has the Eris and wants me to upgrade so she can have my Fascinate. She makes calles, uses internet, email, and some apps. Phone is fantastic for her. I like it as well, though I would like better features.

I'm a tech geek. Something I learned many years ago, when I buy it...something better will be coming out. That's life in the electronics age.

When I open my innopath thing to check for an update, the "please wait..." notice blinks. It used to not do this. Is this normal? It used to just get longer with the dots. Now it blinks? What gives?

Maybe that was Samsung's update... lol

Another lesson learned from 40 years in the tech business: Never buy anything betting on an update to come. The corollary to that? Never whine when it doesn't.

Yeah I suppose this was too much to ask from Samsung. It seems like every other country out there already got 2.2 for their GS phones while probably the biggest one is still waiting in line.

Agree.

Prior to whining, you're just a guy with a phone that didn't get the update you feel entitled to.

After whining, you're a whiner with a phone that didn't get the update you feel entitled to.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this--in the pic, the LG Vortex is scheduled on 1/10, it's in the added column.

The Samsung fascinate is in the moved column, which could be moved for an unknown reason it and it may not happen.

Or it could happen because it was moved to 1/10.

Or the whole pic could be bogus :)

I don't know about the Facebook problems, I don't use Facebook, but GPS works great on mine, stock, as do the screens and email.

My GPS works fine, too. I use the Facebook app which works fine. Don't like extra widgets on my homescreens (batt life & perfomance). But I echo his major issue with the headphone jack. It's completely screwed up. On the Eris, bless it's little accursed heart, this worked flawlessly, and quite logically. If you had it plugged into your car stereo (and look at all the stock and aftermarket stereos that now come with a stereo minijack input!! The vast majority now do.), and a call came in, it would simply put the call over the speakers and use the built in microphone to receive your voice. If you had it plugged in to listen to music AND had a bluetooth headset connected, it would default to the bluetooth headset for calls, then automatically resume music on the stereo after the call was over. It was one feature that always worked great on the Eris.

Fortunately, my wife drives the newer car with the aux. minijack input and she happens to use the Eris. The deck I installed myself in that car also has bluetooth, which works quite well. On the Eris, it will do music through the minijack, and go right to the deck's built in bluetooth for calls. It's beautiful. It's hands free, and automatic. When I have my Fascinate connected and a call comes in, everything goes silent. If I have bluetooth connected, it won't use it until I disconnect the audio plug. And it won't use the audio plug for the call because it's doesn't have the right connection (L+R audio plus mic). What the hell were they thinking? How is that HANDS FREE? How does that function seamlessly as an audio device and a phone? The stock music player on the Fascinate rivals that of the iPod in my opinion, and I very much enjoy Pandora radio and the 16GB card that comes with the phone for music on the go. I can't believe how broken the Fascinate is in this aspect. Why in the crap would I go to the trouble of connecting a bluetooth headset if I didn't want to use it for calls? If I remember right, this also worked on my Droid X...

Would I go back and keep the Droid X instead if I had the choice? No. But the margin is about as thin as a piece of fishing line, and the length of time it takes for the update to come out continues to whittle away at it. I love the fast hardware of this phone, and nobody has a better screen out for what I need it for (viewing angles, contrast, and daylight visibility) so far. And I certainly am pleased with the battery life. I regularly get 1.5 to 2 days on a charge, and a day doesn't go by now that I don't text quite a bit, read on it, surf the web or game on it.

All right, I have to be honest. While I'm annoyed by the 2.2 wait time, the music/call audio jack problem actually frustrates me more. Can't even use regular headphones to take a call while using the built in mic. Stupid stupid stupid. I've checked all the settings I can think of. Is this working for you other fascinate owners, and I'm perhaps missing something???

Nope. I've just grown accustomed to yanking out my headphones when a phone call comes in. =/

I love this part considering this is mostly useless until the 2.2 update finally rolls out.
If already in a locked state, the device will now remain locked
when placed in the desk dock or car dock.

Hi yall! I'm new around here, but figured I'd pop in and add my two cents. I've been anxiously awaiting 2.2 since before I got my Fascinate. I've had it since late September, and while I'm very happy with my phone.. I can see the room for improvement. I just spent the last 30 minutes skimming through the pages in this thread, and just wanted to thank everyone for all of the helpful information.

Here's to hoping we get Froyo soon :D

DJ05 fixed this ages ago. For headphones, at least--not sure about line-level connections (yes, the phone checks impedance level to tell them apart).

So I read its dl09 though I'm not getting it yet. But looking at what it fixes doesn't show anything about my signal strength. Is that not std issue with this phone our is it just mine? I will often show 40%+ without a signal when wifes eris shows 0.

nothing here yet either.. Innopath says No New Updates :-(

if I click Innopath Status I get below
Service Unavailable
Code:503
Date: Dec 28 2010

now that it appears to be official I hope someone releases some DL09 ROMs soon so it's worth updating to. for now I'm gonna stick with my DI01 superclean w/ DJ05 GPS fix applied.

Are you on di01 or dj05? And I don't think theres gonna be work done on dl09 because its pretty much a crap version of dj05. And the devs spent so much time on dj05 they look at it as a waste of time to mess with dl09
