Was checking for updates got EA28 guess this is the fix fox emergency when locked
Yeah, I'd hold off. Installing this leak is a bit more complex than just rooting and customizing your phone with the regular 2.1. If you're just getting into phones and customizing/modding them, start with 2.1 rooting and modding, as there is a WEALTH of support threads, step by step guides, and folks like me and others who have rooted a bunch of Fascinates and would be more than happy to help you out. There is definitely strength in numbers, and the numbers out there using this leaked 2.2.1 just aren't high enough yet for someone just starting.
I definitely recommend rooting and customizing a little bit though. This phone can take a lickin' and keep on tickin', when it comes to software foibles.
If you're so worried about "useful" posts, why did you feel the need to chime in?Wow joined here just to say that. What a great and useful post. If you would have read the text verizion sent you would know it was not 2.2 but just a fix for the e911.

Not everybody is getting the message at the same time. Mine came this afternoon, I am on DL30 also. They probably don't want their download servers flooded so they stagger the release.Don't be too quick to assume that everyone got a text ... I did not. Maybe because I'm rooted and flashed DL30? Dunno .....
And .... welcome to the forum NFG![]()

You're not saying you got the EB01 OTA right? You just work for VZW or Samsung I assumeI didn't get mine until this afternoon (after I already loaded EA28, then EB01)...
There's no rhyme or reason...

EB01 is not out for consumers. And I was never here...

Gotcha. I dont suppose you can answer the compatibility framework wise between DL30 and EB01? I know nitsuj17 is worried about re-doing all his themes again. So is DL30/EB01 kinda like DJ05/DL09 relationship?Does EA28 have a new radio baseband

I'm so pissed off at both Samsung and Verizon. Samsung for imposing their idiotically unnecessary TouchWiz that is almost certainly holding up the show and Verizon for locking me out of my phone's settings so I'm forbidden to delete three screens of deactivated trial apps and use BING to search.
Here's my philosophy on phones, or really any piece of hardware I own: I paid for the phone, it's MY phone which belongs to me because I purchased it, therefore I want to run whatever software I please on it and how dare anyone suggest that I can't!
I've gotten my phone rooted and installed ROM manager, but there are no instructions anywhere on how to get ClockWorkMod running with a Mac (all instructions are for Windows, and they involve downloading drivers and a bunch of crap that I don't want to partition my Mac and dual-boot in order to fail at). ClockWorkMod has a built-in option specifically for Fascinate but as far as I can tell it simply doesn't work. Since the day I purchased this phone until now I have encountered nothing but frustration at how inadequate Google's management of its ecosystem has been. Google should force carriers and manufacturers to meet certain deadlines for their users when it comes to releasing updates or else revoke their licenses. I think that'd clear up the custom UI/crapware issue pretty neatly.
Well put. Then why did you buy it? You did not buy hardware, you bought a device built by Samsung with software they felt appealed to the greater public. Hackers, crackers, those with higher expectations of anything they buy, and one post trolls, always bash the OEM attempts. If you didn't like it, you shouldn't have bought it.
To top it off, you are complaining about working with a Mac. Another niche.
Go get an iPhone, it will plug right into your Mac.

Some of his venting is not unfounded, though. Many devices would run much better, have far less required troubleshooting, and get much quicker updates if carriers and manufacturers didn't fark up the core OS so much. One of my co-worker's Fascinates is almost unbearably laggy right now. Carriers and modders alike recommend doing a clean wipe/erase after major updates, which she hasn't yet, even though she's received 2 major updates.
I find it highly unlikely that the update would be so buggy or unreliable if it didn't have to include patches and fixes for BING search instead of the stock google that the OS is made to run with. Again, it would be better if the update didn't have to include more patches and fixes for CityID, VZ navigator, Verizon's 3G hotspot app, Touchwiz, and all the other crap they add to a Google OS that was ... OH WAIT, WHAT YOU SAID: "with software they felt appealed to the greater public."
If they simply released the phones clean, and with stock google stuff, and a clean google interface, plus a few of the carrier required apps of course, and later offered TW as an optional launcher for the phone, how many would request that? I see your point about TW being fine for the masses, and also having a little iPhone-esque feel to appeal to converts or potentially sway hardcore iOS users.
I have tweaked the daylights out of my phone, and cleaned it extensively. Everything works. And it's quicker and more responsive by a couple orders of magnitude than ANY iPhone I've ever used, including the iPhone 4. It is mindbendingly fast how smooth things scroll, how quick my app drawer shows up, how fast apps load.
If it didn't come with so much crap, people wouldn't have to do all the work we do to get that experience, and they do. I have helped people set up Fascinates, Droid X's, and other Google phones. There's always stuff I have to clean off for them to get the phone running as fast as it possibly can, and offer an experience equal to the smoothness of running an iOS device. Google's clean, unfettered OS does that out of the box. I've used the Nexus S. I've used a Nexus One. Folks could get that kind of experience right from the get go if CityID wasn't popping up after a phone call inviting you to try a free trial, if TW wasn't running on top of everything, if all those crap VZ services were set to on demand rather than always starting up, using memory AND battery life.
I could go on, but I want to go play battlefield bad company 2 now, so I rest my case.
YesSooooo.....if I root I can basically do this......get rid of all of the crapware? aND BASICALLY MAKE MY fASCINATE RUN LIKE A GALAXY S?
Install clockwork and then just install a superclean rom and make yourself bloatfreeYesInstall clockwork and then just install a superclean rom and make yourself bloatfree
That won't happen. Honestly, my SF is my only phone. I have no landline. I also need my phone to be fully functional. I have a small business Im involved with and all my clients have my SF number so believe me when I say I need my SF running 100% at all times. The work the dev's have put into this whole process is tremendous. I know some people sometimes have mini borks but speaking very humbly thats almost always operator error. Rooting, getting clockwork on and a nice superclean rom is very easy as long as you do it properly. jt1134, adrynalyne and the brain trust have made everything virtually fool proof and trouble free.I'm still hangin in there waiting for 2.2.........getting old and might just have to take the leap. I don't have any major gripes right now....not rooted but running ADW Ex and it is still smooth and fast. I'm kinda nervous about rooting...this is my only phone and what if......
And then this happens:
