I can't believe so many people are actually expecting an OTA update to be released today based upon an article published by a 3rd party that has no official affiliation with samsung.

You are now chatting with 'Alan'

Alan: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: hi! I have the fascinate from verizon. do you know if the froyo update is on schedule to come out today or is it available on samsung site?
Alan: I understand that you are looking for Android 2.2 update for your Samsung Mobile. Am I correct?
Visitor: yes
Alan: Thank you for confirming.
Visitor: also, do you know if the 2.2 update will fix the issues that have occured with swype since the last verizon update? DL09?
Alan: Unfortunately, as of now there is no official information on the release date of the Android 2.2 for Fascinate from Samsung and you will be notified by the carrier and in the Samsung website when/if the update is released.
Alan: We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.
Visitor: the information was based on an article released a couple weeks ago....so you're saying there's no release today?
Alan: Yes, as of now we do not have any information on 2.2 froyo for Samsung Fascinate.
Alan: Should this become available, it will be posted on our website in the Samsung Download Center.
Alan: You will get the notification on the phone over the air from your carrier Server.
Visitor: ok
Alan: Do you have any other questions for me?
Visitor: no. thanks

Well, this is supposed to be some kind of high end phone. People expected better support for something that was $200 with a new contract, or a renewal. You can call the disappointed masses "whiners" or whatever, but seriously. This phone came out in September. The Nexus S released last year with the same hardware, but with Gingerbread. The Fascinate has experienced so many widely reported glitches and bugs, the vast majority software related. People are frustrated. Those with the leaked EB01 ROMs are getting a much better experience already, but the non-root crowd is still waiting, six months after the phone came out, and other phones are releasing brand new with Froyo or GB.

Ambiguity sucks.

Verizon rep says no 2.2 update today. Nothing officially in the works, but I don't think he really knew what he was talking about either. Anyway, if it's not in their system for them to get their CSR's to discuss, I'm inclined to believe we will not be getting it today :(

that is from feb 18th and says

couple hours ago we had to inform you that the Samsung Fascinate Android 2.2 update which was posted over at AT&T's support pages was removed.

i didnt know the fascinate was on att

Yes I did see the date and didn't know they had one for the att either. I'm just wondering that if ATT pulled it then VZW might pull it as well. Like i said, Im still hoping but not holding my breath.

hey...for us unrooted users, all we can do is hope :D

Hey now, I didn't call anyone anything. I'm just surprised that, with all the prior instances "an update is coming!" being called and nothing happening, people would actually get their hopes up because some random web site declared that Feb 22 is the day.

Frankly I'm waiting for the OTA version too. EB01 was OK but it had a couple of bugs that made me go back to DL09 until the release version comes out.

We'll see releases leaked before any OTA, and other than EB01 there haven't been any leaks. I'm hoping EB01 isn't the final release version, if it is I may just stick with DL09.

what exactly about stock eb01 is worse than stock dl09? (minus the hilarious edf dialer screw up)

Just got out of a chat with Samsung, with "Kyle", I asked about an update to fix my GPS AGAIN and "Kyle" had no idea that there was an issue with the Fascinate GPS.....and of course when I asked about 2.2 I got the exact same answer BumbleBee got.

As foolishly optimistic as I was for this, when you think about it, there was never anything beyond that one rumor "announcing" the date. Every update up to now has been announced about a week in advance. I bet we don't see this until mid April. Oh well, time to root and flash EB01...

^^ (tin foil hat) Well it's not my first of the day (I laugh at my own jokes :D), but it is a good one.

It's always good to laugh at your own jokes... I'm home sick and normally much more susceptible to LOLs than I am today... maybe I need more drugs

The bug that bothered me enough to switch back is an issue with the GPS. I've detailed it in a couple of threads on XDA, in short:

- the first time you enable standalone GPS services you have to "accept" the warning it gives you
- if you do this, it works great until you turn GPS off and reboot the phone
- once phone is rebooted w/ GPS off, it will not turn on again via the notification bar (it says on but never sees any sats) until you go back into settings-->Loc&Sec and check the "standalone GPS services" box and accept the warning again
- then it works great until you reboot the phone w/ gps off again and the cycle continues

I verified this with SC 2.1, SC 2.2, and stock EB01 ROMs, all behaved the same. My SC DL09 doesn't have this problem. I also noticed that if the phone was left alone for a while (charging overnight) this same thing would happen w/o a reboot but I didn't experiment with that very much.

the GPS is VERY fast and strong when it's working, but I never leave GPS on unless I need it, and rebooting the phone each time I want to use the GPS isn't going to work for me.

That was the killer. Battery life was also notably worse w/ EB01 as well. With nearly no usage it would lose >10% within the first hour or two.

And yes I cleared data, cache, dalvik, and battery stats between each ROM load.
