Hmm. I just checked out Samsung's official site. Went to the mobile section for the Fascinate. Clicked on I OWN THIS, so it would link me to where I can download things like the manual, firmware and stuff. It says PAGE NOT FOUND? Idk if the site is messed up or they are adding 2.2? Only one can dream, ha. Also it cracks me up that the new 4G Galaxy for Verizon will be shipped w/ 2.2 as of now.

The rumor also said the Epic would get 2.2. It did. There are at least two versions of 2.2 for the SF being tested; after all the leaks are out there. It will get it. My predication stands that Verizon is typically a month behind Sprint for the same phone. I'd like to be proved wrong though.

At this point ive given up all hope that Froyo is even going to be released for this phone. But honestly, I just dont care anymore. Samsung has officially made it onto my "do not buy from" list. This is not the correct way to win the trust and loyalty of the consumer. Well im sorry Samsung, you have lost a customer, and dont think I wont tell my friends and family of this sitsuation. Word of mouth is everything in the world of business, and I for one will tell people to avoid them.

Starting tommarow I plan to re-root and have froyo up and running within a few hours. And come September, I wil be moving to HTC or Motorola. So long and thanks for all the fish.

I doubt a few days late could be the aspect that tips the scales one way or the other. And I understand how frustrated we all are - myself included - chasing rumor after rumor saying that froyo for the Fascinate is just around the corner. This kind of reminds me in a twisted sort of way about all those Verizon iPhone rumors year after year. I think if this was a less popular device, that there would be less complaining. This is truly the worst move a manufacturer could possibly make. It might be causing minor inconveniences to a bunch of customers, and overall, they are minor. Slow GPS locks, occasional hang ups or laggy feelings here and there. Of course some people are experiencing worse, but that's true with any modern electronics device.

The problem is that Samsung made a device with top notch hardware. It had a venerable position granted it by being available on every major U.S. carrier in one variant or another (TWO variants on Verizon alone!), as well as many, many GSM carriers worldwide. They have sold millions and millions of these. It truly is their flagship smartphone right now. I know they're working on replacement flagship devices, but those are not available yet! What the hell are they thinking? This isn't a paltry, unsuccessful, obscure, little guy's device. This is a popular, state of the art, class leading, and expensive smartphone. Most of my immediate family has this phone!! Its form factor and hardware are amazing. It's truly a top tier device.

No one else has a top tier device with Eclair on it anymore, even in this country, that usually lags behind a bit, tech wise. We've got the G2, the DX, the D2, the D Pro, and other high end devices, and I can't think of one now that doesn't have 2.2. The fact that the Nexus S with ridiculously similar hardware ships with 2.3 makes it even more insulting.

I criticize all manufacturers for being to worried about boasting numerical specs. "Dual core this" and "monster GPU that" while software lags behind, along with supporting previously released devices. GIMME MORE GEEBEES!! Hogwash.

Even though they are all guilty of too much of this, Samsung is guilty of it in spades, and the fact that they are doing it to their most successful smartphone, and one that is quite popular and well-received hardware wise, is a great way to shoot themselves in the foot. I was burned by the Omnia. A rep waving a beautiful SuperAMOLED screen in front of my face hypnotized me (I kid, I kid!) into once again at least considering Samsung once more for the purchase of a smartphone.

The more they please the living daylights out of current Galaxy S owners, the more Galaxy S 2 devices they will sell. The more of us they piss off, the less they will sell. The five Fascinates in my family were all bought because of me, pretty much single-handedly. I'd owned the Droid X and the Samsung Fascinate, and compared both at the same time. Without a very tightly locked bootloader, I expected the dev community to come through quite nicely on options for modding the Samsung, and I have thus made my Fascinate and my wife's Fascinate run great, and exactly how we want them. It's been thanks to the dev community more than anything, though. I know that the leaks have helped them along substantially, but they are late in coming.

They needed to update more, and faster. This is one product release and support area I would've ran full throttle with no compromises. I've read some that have said that it's merely the rooting/modding community that thinks this way. I disagree. My sister, who had to have her Fascinate replaced for hardware issues, has a device that's no longer rooted and customized. She's having the GPS issues. My friend at work, who has a much newer Fascinate than I do has lag issues galore, many of which I have observed myself, and know that they are fixed with EB01. My wife and I have been using the latest leaked froyo on the Fascinate since a couple of days after it went up on XDA, and so far it's been excellent. I mean, the stability of my old iPod Touch excellent.

This long story is merely meant to explain that it's even more in the best interest of Samsung (and of course Verizon, who has the most money to gain on the deal) to make this a stellar experience for the customer, than it is in our best interest. Yes, it helps us out in our smartphone usage and makes us happy smartphone users. For Samsung it could mean potentially lots and lots of money, or lots and lots of a lack thereof.

Samsung site seems to be working ok for me. No 2.2 on it though :(

This is my first Samsung, and will probably be my last. The only thing that could save them is for this phone to not only get at least Froyo, but another update w\i my contract on this device which is not up until Nov 2012. Knowing Verizon and learning about Samsung- that doesn't seem likely.

Great product, but nothing standing behind that product. For me, that is more important then the item itself.

"Don't be afraid to buy the best- you'll always be happy". I thought I was buying the best with the Fascinate, however I'm not very happy. Aside from updates, I have had some text issues, some reset issues, camera issues- simple, but more then I feel I should have had with such a touted phone. :(

new development....been checking system updates every 10 minutes or so ALL DAY LONG. as of 11:30pm, it's taking forever...keep getting the "please wait" and eventually it tells me the server is unavailable. SOOOOOO, either everyone doing this is slowing down their server OR they're working on updating it....or not, but I can wish can't I??? LOL:D

I too have been checking every 5-10 minutes for the update. I cannot believe that with all that is going on in the world (re: Egypt, Libya, world hunger, AIDS, etc.) that Samsung and Verizon would collude and withhold the 2.2 update from PAYING customers. I have given up all hope that the update is coming on or around February 22 and some random blogs posts and news stories have noted. I have stopped eating. I have deleted my World of Warcraft account. My guild will be pissed but I just don't care anymore. My girlfriend has threatened to break up with me because I will not stop checking my phone for the update.

The worst part about all this is that Samsung and Verizon couldn't care less about their customers. With all their millions of customers, how DARE they neglect the very small percentage of people who demand an update based on rumors! This is just like how George W. Bush lied to us to go to war in Iraq. No, it's worse.

This would have been sent from my Verizon Fascinate but I threw it in my driveway and set it on fire.

I have a HTC Incredible. I went through this same waiting game LAST year until I finally got sick of waiting and rooted. I've been checking this thread because a family member has the Fascinate. All manufacturers are guilty of this, but it does seem like Sammy is taking it a little too far... not that I would've bought their phones in the future. At least paying customers can vote with their money.

is it samsung or verizon? thats the question
either way i'll wait, this phone is great with 2.1, so i want 2.2 to be tweaked so its just as good

Hopefully soon it will come, and make this phone somewhat better. Otherwise I will be buying the wife a iphone 4 that she's been pushing for.

Like the HTC Eris which never got any support from HTC or Verizon?

Verizon attempted to push an update to my Fascinate TWICE yesterday. Both attempts failed. Timing makes me wonder if this was a 2.2 push?

1. Attempt 1 - Rooted - Failed
2. Attempt 2 - Un-rooted, wiped to stock - Failed

Both failures complained about a missing prerequisite update.

Any ideas before I re-root?

You're the first person I've heard mention getting any update push attempt on their Fascinate.

Anyone else have any OTA pushes or attempts to push?

Was your phone just rooted? Which update/build were you running?

Yes, rooted on first attempt (rooted several wks ago), but then I un-rooted before the second attempt arrived. Both attempts failed.

Firmware: 2.1-update-1
Build: SCH-I500.DI01
Baseband: S:i500.04. V.DI01
