Well I just got a call from the Office of the President of Verizon.
I had emailed the letter I posted early and filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. The person that I spoke with referenced only the inquiry from the BBB.
In short, he apologized for the delay and lack of info. He asked me several questions about the info sent to the BBB, specifically about what the Verizon reps and their claims. He apologized profusely for the lack of info and wanted to know if remembered any names of the people that I had spoken with (which I did) and what they had claimed. Several times, he apologized for the reps behavior and said that the fact that they blamed Samsung and claimed Verizon had no part in the software process is wholly unacceptable and they will be dealt with.
He also conceded that Verizon is usually the last to update software because of their arduous testing process. He said that the latest build has been approved for deployment as of 4/14/11 and that it will be coming OTA very, very soon.
Naturally, I felt it were my duty to politely convey my skepticism on behalf of all Fascinate owners and explained to him that many of us are former Eris users that have spent a lot of money and feel like 2 time losers. I asked him to look at this from a customer's point of view. Surprisingly, he conceded again and offered a replacement phone of my choice that is available under the Certified Pre-Owned program (30 days to decide). I told him that though I am not interested in a new device but rather an update, I will consider his offer.
Thats basically it. Hopefully, this 4/14 approval date and prospect of OTA update is for real. I hope more people file with the Better Business Bureau and send in emails.
