***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

Decent point there. No one knows when the real OTA drops however, the fact that the devs were allowed to release the rom and radio today to me suggests its out for mass testing with VZW and this suggests an OTA is likely just weeks away.

Yup, thanks. About time too. I think we will all be happy when it's received. Looking forward to it.

WAHAHAHAHA!!!! I think I'm in business!!!

This thread here helped me out a LOT:

[HOWTO] Completely Remove Voodoo Lagfix - xda-developers

Anyways, looks as if the EB01 Froyo leak is going to work GREAT on both my wife's new Fascinate and mine. Just took a lot more work on mine. Methinks it was because of the Voodoo kernels.

After using the new EB01 leak with the recently updated ADW.Launcher (now superior in several ways to Launcher Pro Plus, in addition to being free...), I have come to one conclusion:

This Froyo build, even without a superclean ROM, is FAST.

Not just fast, but HOLY CRAP BATMAN fast. This is truly the Froyo we've all been waiting for. Haven't tested absolutely everything yet, but so far what I have used works GREAT. Testing now on two Fascinates. But I'm getting tired and need some sleep.. Whew. This phone never ceases to amaze me, and now with Froyo, even more so.
Agreed. This phone was meant to run on 2.2.1 Very nice indeed.

Yeah lots of folks will be pleased with how much smooth 2.2.1 is. IMO 2.1 was very decent on the SF, 2.2.1 only makes the user experience better

Does anyone have the Desktop cradle for the Fascinate? Does EB01 make the audio port on it work finally?

I thought DL30 would do it: No go, and I assume it needed the new radio to do it.

I've tried every option I can think of and I don't see any way to enable video out. I was really hoping 2.2 would bring that capability to Fascinate owners. Verizon also assured me that the stupid and asinine bluetooth/audio jack problem would be addressed in the next update.

As good as the EB01 Froyo is, I really hope it's not final, since this is not fixed. It's class action law suit material, as safety while driving is a concern. If the OTA drops and it's still not fixed, they are going to get some angry phone calls from me, and frankly, I hope you ALL will call and complain with me.

No excuse for this blatant safety hazard on such a modern, advanced cellphone. Other than that, they did fix a lot of things, such as two calendar accounts, making appointments shows the day of the week now, my alarm clock works again, etc. Lots of good fixes, but we really need to complain about the bluetooth/audio jack issue. BIG time.

Now we should start the 2.3 and 2.4 speculation threads!
Well, 2.3[.2] is coming, in some way shape or form. Kaos has an unreleased alpha version and even if someone like suxor cannot or will not confirm it Sammy is brewing it in the pot for our SF. The secret inner circle at Verizon is supposed to get it any week now. Then again thats 3rd handed information so dont quote me and its also like saying Verizon had early builds of Froyo last October. Which is to say its true but it meant nothing in terms of forecasting. Now that does not mean it will see the light of day ever and certainly not soon since technically there is no official 2.2[.1] yet
2.4...maybe we should really wait for an official 2.2.1 before we discuss its successors successor.:p

Agreed. 2.2.1 will be progress. 2.3 will be great to have. By the time 2.4 hit this device, if it ever does, we might already be through one or two more smartphones!

Most definitely. My audio-out on my dock STILL doesn't work, and I assumed a new radio would fix it. Well? It doesn't. Not this new radio, at least.

I bought the dock with the very expectation of using it for music while working once 2.2 came out.

If/When the Fascinate gets 2.2, I may have to use it as my daily driver again, but there is also talk of the DX getting 2.3 soon, so the Fascinate might be back on the shelf.

Unless you are anti-ROM's and are an OTA exclusivist we got 2.2 for SF

And aside from a couple of things they haven't fixed, one of which is minor, it's quite exceptional. Been running it for a few days on my Fascinate and the wife's. It really runs great.

Well, i am glad that HTC announced the Incredible S, it looks mighty fine and i trust htc with updates. Come September, i'm dropping this phone, i am sure there will be much better by then, 4inch screen is my limit though it is lovely.

Yeah by September there should be even another generation of phones coming out. That is the successors of the Incredible S, Thunderbolt, Bionic, etc.

Also since someone above asked about 2.3. Kaos just released his alpha build of it. Admittedly, its very raw and Im not touching it myself. However, the fact that it exists and is out in any form is saying something

But why would you bother with those with Nvidia's *quad* core coming to phones a few months later?

;)

At some point everyone bites the bullet. When consumers can actually purchase a KAL-EL based phone Im sure is more than a year away, even if nvidia is targetting the holidays. Who knows. If Im still on this SF come fall I'll re-evaluate then

Ok so how stable is this Froyo build? Like I dont really care about all the fancy do-hickies and what-nots...just a fully working vanillia android 2.2 build and I will CONSIDER rooting my device once more. Im sick of all this waiting, and since Ive dont this before, Im not NEARLY as scared to root. I like that this device is VERY hard to break, software wise.

It still has Bing, VZ Nav, NFS Shift, Tetris, Verizon's other softwares, TW, and CityID. The current EB01 ROM is rooted and has superuser all set to go, so I simply installed ADW over the top, and got rid of what I didn't want, installed Google Maps (which includes their nav), and I'm good to go. The thing has been extremely fast, extremely stable, and battery life is pretty good too. It's very much a day to day ready, stable build.

You'll have to run a camera firmware update to get the camera to work. I've tested everything else I can think of, and it's all there, working fine, and in some cases, much improved, such as google calendar management.

I have it running very nice and stable on two Fascinates. One I bought in Sept. when they came out, and one I bought last Friday. Both run great.

The only thing I can't get to work on my phone is Abduction. It will work for a while, then the screen will go black. The rest of the phone works, and I can end the task and restart. It's odd. My wife's doesn't do this. Everything else, games, apps, bluetooth, etc. so far works extremely well.
