***Official Samsung Fascinate Pre-Release Thread***

I think VZ Nav is much better then Google Nav. However, if Verizon is going to charge $10 a month extra for VZ Nav then I'll stick with the FREE Google Nav.

I'm new to Android and looking forward to this phone. I've read that carriers can block certain apps so they don't show up for download in the Marketplace. Is this true and is it possible Verizon blocks Google Nav? I can't see why tho since the Droid and Incredible both have it.

Also, anyone else interested in the Tmo version because of the extra on-board storage, giving it more total storage after upgrading the SD card?

As far as I'm aware, carriers do not have the power to prevent you from installing apps from the market (unless they remove "install from unknown sources" like At&t does). Your Android version could have something to do with though; for example, there are apps that only work for 2.1 and up and etc.

Don't more people on these forums root their phones anyway? If so, you can get rid of Bing and anything else you don't like.

The Bing issue I believe can be solved if the phone can be rooted. I find it hard to believe that Google didn't hardwire their stuff into the Android system. That makes no sense.

For me, I'm not happy about the 5mp cam. On the Inc I had, that 8mp cam took the best photos I have ever seen outside of a professional camera. simple awesome and that's one feature of the Inc I will miss, but not the whole dying part after 5 days.

bigger screen without being obnoxious, better screen contrast, 3 times faster peocessor (not sure on that, thats just what this report is saying)

im just glad i work for verizon, cuz then i'll get to play with it a few days before its released and if i beg enough maybe i can borrow one for a day or two

The Incredible's camera is also better 8 Mega Pixel compared to the Galaxy S 5 Mega Pixel camera.
mega pixels dont mean crap, i used to sell cameras and trust me its all about the sensor and iso and lens, thats why the iphone camera looks great even at 5 mega pixels

The Galaxy S looks like a winner, but I've come to really like the Incredible's form factor and use of HTC Sense. I wont be remotely interested in a new phone until 2011 rolls around.

I agree the resolution also has alot to do with cameras, Its like a tv the better the contrast ratio the better the picture.

There is a super galaxy s that is supposedly coming out. Phandroid had an article about it. It looks amazing....

Oh please....

The HTC 8 megapixel camera HEAVILY compresses the JPEG. It has already been proven. Take a picture at 8MP and 5MP on your Incredible.

Then look at the file size.
You will get a file size of 1.7-1.9 megabytes on the 8MP and 1.4 megabytes on the 5MP.

The lens on the DINC does not resolve the extra 3 MP.

I have a whole thread on this that explores how bad the camera is on the HTC Incredible.
A few things to note:
1) The camera heavily compresses the file
2) The camera has bad case of blowing out the highlights
3) The metering is faulty
4) HTC is not even using the correct drivers for their camera. Plug in your phone to the Android Software Dev Kit (SDK) and run the cat-logger. That will 100% prove my point. They are using a generic driver and that may explain the #2 & #3 points.

Hi guys! Just thought I'd pop on over this thread to make sure you all keep it on topic and not get personal. Thank you!

Carry on! (but don't carry on!) (I crack myself up)

It's a very nice phone. Thin and slick how I like them. Looks an awful lot like an Iphone though. Almost identical to one. I'm am htc guy though. I'll stick with the inc. for now.

If this puppy had the 16gb built-in like the Tmo version has (VZW version has only 2gb), I would consider selling my Inc, since neither device will get 2.2 anytime soon anyways ;)

Good news is Galaxy is already rooted, but the bad news is good luck creating drivers for the Hummingbird chipset to augment a 2.2 rom. Only practical way to get a great running rom is if drivers for Hummer are added in a 2.2 rom. If not, bug and gimp city.

Then again, it is nice having Flash during the wait with Inc :)

BTW, HTC is infamous for not maximizing hardware with proper drivers. They either think it is not worth it, or look at such dev work as an another expense they do not want (probably both).

I am with you on this!

And to maybe elaborate, drive this home or put it in perspective or whatever you want to call it, I just cannot gauge how impressive a telephone (smart phone or not) is based on the camera.

In my opinion, a camera on a phone is a "convenience item" and in no way is meant to replace an actual camera.

-Your walking on the beach, see a sail boat? No camera? pull out your phone.
-Your at Macy's or Target and see a coffee maker the wife mentioned and you want to be sure? Pull out your phone.
-You see someone hit a car in a parking lot and take off? pull out your phone.

You go on vacation or sightseeing or you're at a wedding???
You're probably going to have your "camera" and the phone will stay put!

I know I over simplified this a bit, but this is just how I see it!

All that said, this phone seems impressive as hell!!!!! ;)

good info i was unaware of, i would only root for wifi tethering, 2.2, and removing touchwiz ui

I hope it can be solved without being rooted, just with a normal uninstall of the app. Or it could be like the storm where Verizon forces an icon onto the phone but it is just a link to install the app.

Yeah, shouldn't be that hard I hope. I am stuck w my Storm since my Inc died, and wasn't happy about them forcing apps on me OTA.

Man I am on pre oder for the Inc. I wish there was more info on this phone as it looks good. I could decide on what my next move would be? Man give us some INFO verizon!!!!!!!!!

I would scrap that Inc order. There's a lot of issues with them, just check out the Inc forum. There are a lot of phones coming out this fall that will blow the Inc out of the water.
