Just to play devil's advocate I didn't really see anything inherently "idiotic" with what he said. 15 or not they were all pretty valid concerns...albeit a little generic. I share his concerns on marketing. I wish Sprint would just do a full blast focusing on this being a big boy toy and not those goofy "everyone" style commercials trying to cash in on Apple's approach. I think the one major thing I disagree with him on is that this phone won't be a hit. He must not have been around for the original 4g when it was released.

Yeah, the article is rubbish :)

However, I was once that young way back during the dawn of the internet. I remember writing reviews for a nascent video gaming website... and reading back on that writing makes me cringe and induces uncontrollable nausea.

But hopefully it's useful experience for this kid. An article like this doesn't bother me too much as this site is really not much of a platform for views and won't affect the Evo's circumstances in any material way. ...if this same writing was somehow a C|Net feature on the other hand... I'd be raising hell too. :)

AT&T's version of the One X is officially set to release May 6th.
HTC One X Available Exclusively From AT&T Beginning May 6... -- DALLAS and BELLEVUE, Wash., April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

It provides a good chance for anyone on the fence to get an in store demo and test drive of some of the Evo 4G LTE's base components (S4 Krait processor, bigger screen, camera, Beats audio output, Sense 4.0, size approximation, etc.) before our pre-orders on May 7.

Samsung is announcing their new thing on May 3rd, so we will have an idea of what they are doing for the short term future.

If only we could know what the rest of the summer holds...

Hmmm. Phonedog has a valid point, but at the same time, it doesn't match historically with Sprint's past releases. That doesn't mean that things can't change though, so that'd be a pleasant surprise and I'd be able to check out the phone in person sooner than I originally anticipated.

If Samsung follows the same pattern as they did last year between the SGS 2 (Europe) vs. the US release, then if the phone is that much better than the SGS 2, the hype train will continue:

It's Official! Samsung Galaxy S3 to Be Launched on May 3 :: Smartphone Biz-News.com

May 3 + 4-4.5 months = Early-Mid September release for the E4GT 3 release on Sprint. Granted, there weren't many changes from the original SGS 2, to the Sprint E4GT, so people will pretty much know what to expect after the London release on May 3.

This is all great for me. I'll have good reviews to look at by the time my final 1 year upgrade is eligible.

No question I'm going to the local at&t store to play with the One X. I have to see that screen in person. Let's say the rumor is true and the EVO LTE drops on May 18. That leaves June, July, and August for some other super phones to drop. I'm starting to think the GS3 may come sooner than we think. Also, possibly a sequel to the Photon as well.

Well - let's consider - the Evo 3D hit end of life with a bang - it's gone folks. And even though the Evo was at end of life for a while - now it's gone, too.

Ending inventory on the WiMax Evos and time for the third Evo - LTEvo - because, seriously, what else do they have to sell in the interim as high end phones?

The Photon? No 800 MHz access for CDMA. The Touch? A WiMax phone?

They want to hit big with LTE, so they'll offer..... an LG for a hundred samolians and high end can wait?

So - a May 18th date breaks conventions, but everything here is breaking conventions.

Interesting times.

The Photon? No 800 MHz access for CDMA.

Really? I always thought we did have 800 Mhz CDMA access

Motorola PHOTON 4G specs

It says it is on the stats, but phonearena has posted mis-information from time to time.

Photon is on the EOL list already though, so I'm even recommending that people not get it unless they plan on using the phone internationally, which at that point, it'd still be a valid purchase because it's been confirmed to work with pre-paid sim-cards in other countries.

There's 800 MHz cellular and there's 800 MHz ESMR - and 800 MHz cellular is really closer to the 850 MHz range.

The Network Vision build-out by Sprint is going to use the Nextel 800 MHz band for our new CDMA extended voice services - that ESMR.

Isn't confusing spaghetti and using the same number for two different things just ducky? :p

I'm only using phonescoop.com from now on, they are separating the two out and the distinction here is too important.

Motorola Photon 4G / Electrify Specs, Features (Phone Scoop)

Same deal with the Evo and Shift - they say 800 MHz even on the HTC site, but it's a different 800 MHz, not the one we really care about.

Thanks for clarifying, EM....LOL...You know I get confused with all of it...hahaha.

You??

It took me two days to get my head around that - and I didn't want to. :( :D

LOL...We can always say it's Sprint's fault for not getting their act together! Hopefully, that'll change with Network Vision. Then again, we were all anticipating that Wimax would out-do any LTE...and look how that turned out because of Sprint...hahahaha.

It was supposed to be a game changer. At first when it was coming out we were like, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" then after like a month of being released we were like "what?". :D

I remember looking at it thinking, "wow, I would swap to that if it weren't Palm OS (had horror stories with Palm OS that were even worse than Windows Mobile)." I didn't realize that the OS had been completely re-vamped, until I saw my friends Palm. He actually loved the phone for the first year, but after that (and 5 replacements) he was ready to move on and ended up getting a EVO shift.

OK, so if they are going to release it on 05/18/2012, there won't be any markets with LTE live, isn't that correct?

Don't mean to go too OT but it wasn't a bad phone at all to be honest I was just having some wrestling humor. I guess I've been lucky with phones the Pre, Evo and Photon I all received on their respective release days and had no major bug problems with any of them. I know the Pre was rife with them even worse then the Photon. The problem was just the lack of apps...but I LOVED the email, it used a lot of swiping features that made email a breeze. Especially on Exchange everything ran super smooth. That is the biggest thing I miss and wish others would do something like it.

I would take that date with a huge boulder of salt it's just a rumor for now. Also there are markets with LTE but it's the usual places like San Fran, NYC, Phoenix, St. Louis etc.. IRRC.

If they are bumping up the release date, there is a possibility of LTE launching sooner than we think. They said Mid year for LTE, which is rather broad and leaves it open.

I'd suspect that it'd be somewhat similar to when the original EVO was released. Although none of the markets were announced to be "live," they were turned on and active.

I remember clearly because L.A. was not "live" at that time of release, but I was able to use 4G near my work in Hollywood, as well as LAX. Penetration was (and still is) awful, but it did work, even without a "formal" announcement of it being live.

It's okay. We can work it into the overall convo. In essence, the idea behind it all is that Sprint's history has been pretty consistent for releases. We'll just see if Sprint is on the verge of stepping up their "standard" patterns of the past.

I expect some quirks here and there for the LTEvo, much like any device, but I've had decent luck with launch devices as well. EVO was actually the only smartphone that I purchased at launch that had issues and even then, I didn't mind because of Best Buy's exchange policy (e.g. Bring it in within the 30 day return timeframe, they open a new box and give you a new phone).
