my question is if the gs3 ends up having much of the same specs as EL TEvo, will the kickstand be the deciding factor for purchasing EL TEvo? for me the answer is yes. I really have missed the kickstand with 3vo and it is going to be a very welcome back addition to the EVO family for me. any other elements that might sway you towards EL TEvo based on if the specs are identical?

Well Sense for one. The Dropbox storage is pretty awesome, I prefer eL TEvo's screen over S-A-PLUS-HD-ETC any day. The Sammy probably won't have a dedicated camera button and One X camera(while it could use some fps fixing) has amazing detail. ImageSense is going to play a big part in my decision, along with the general build of the new EVO.

1. Kickstand. I use this ALL THE TIME. At night when it's on my nightstand, during the day on the desk in front of me, and EVEN WHILE HOLDING IT (kicked-out between my pinky and ring finger, it really helps when laying down or during left-hand-only operation).
2. Sense. I love it, I always use ROMs that implement it, and I can't wait for Sense 4.0 (I've been dying to see the landscape navigation/in call screen split from 3. It's a PITA when using the navigation and the caller pops up, cocked 90degrees, and displacing my map!)
3. HTC, for reasons stated earlier. First, all companies have a degree of faulty devices that land in the hands of consumers, lets just get that out of the way. Moving on, Samsungs might be pretty on the outside, but they have hamster wheels on the inside running the various radios. In addition, Samsung as a company does not support their devices after release. HTC on the other hand has solid radios. Better yet, they care about supporting their devices.
- Some might say "if you root your device, updates don't matter." I say that's only partially true. If I were to root a Samsung and use a ROM with Touchwiz, and hold it next to an HTC with a Sense ROM, you know what? My HTC's ROM will have implemented the newest HTC fixes and tweaks to remedy any problems that existed in the OEM ROM. On/In the other hand, my Touchwiz ROM will still have the same bugs as the OEM ROM, unless the ROM dev decided to try and solve the problem (and ends up disabling the camera, or the color, or the wifi, or something else in the process). Why is that? Because the original Touchwiz ROM won't receive timely fixes from Sammy, so there's nothing there for a dev to turn around and implement in his ROM.

1. Kickstand, can't imagine my phone without it. It was one of the reasons why I didn't get the 3vo.
2. HD Voice, really curious about this feature, could come in handy at a noisy nightclub or party.

Hey all, I will surely be looking at the EVO LTE. I bought the original EVO on release day, and it was a fantastic device. Now I am on the MoPho and really like it, but phone envy has started to creep in. I have a few upgrades available and just may pick up an EVO LTE. I recently bought my wife an iPhone and really like the Siri feature a lot, not enough to get an iPhone though. Is there a feature similar to Siri, on the EVO LTE?

Yes, Android does have a voice command ability. As all things in technology, iPhone released its new groundbreaking technology, Siri. Then, as is always the case with other companies competing with Apple, Android, in an effort to catch up, developed and implemented "Voice Search" ...2 years earlier. Lol, seriously, it has been around since 2009 in Android OS. Pick up your MoPho, or any other android, and hold down the search button for 2 seconds. It should go straight into voice search. However, if a menu pops up, select voice search. Once you see the popup with the microphone, hit 'Help' and then 'Watch Video' to learn everything that it can do (WAY more than just google searching).
In all seriousness, I have heard that, like with most things, Apple made some improvements with Siri. Apple isn't ahead of the curve by any means, but they do have a heck of a track record for taking tech developed by others and improving it just enough to call it their own.

Hold up, are you saying that there is a split screen feature in Sense 4.0 that allows for Nav and a call to display simultaneously?

This was supposedly available in Sense 3.0 (or whatever it was that hit the 3vo) but I've never seen it in person. I remember seeing a video about that and other features back when it was being released... but that version of Sense was too large to implement on the Evo 4G, and I wasn't favoring the 3vo enough to upgrade. Anyways, I assume that it will still be available in Sense 4.0.Hold up, are you saying that there is a split screen feature in Sense 4.0 that allows for Nav and a call to display simultaneously?

The thing to remember about that which I'm sure you're aware of is that the HD voice only works with other phones enabled with it, which as of right now will just be the LTE. So we might have be calling each other just to even test it out. That probably won't be a big player until about 4 years from now as many of the phones on the market as we speak faze out.

I might have to buy my phone off contract which means I might have to wait. Unless there is some sort of trick I can use. I was thinking of just opening up another line and letting my girlfriend or brother have my photon. My brother has an SGII but he defaulted on his Sprint bill so I think it's locked up. I would prefer to sell the Photon but I probably won't be able to.

While both phones say that they can do CDMA on 800 MHz, those are actually spec'd for different bands. Basically, the Evo can operate on 850 MHz as a secondary.
The Sprint network upgrade will use the 800 MHz band to give wider coverage. EL TEvo will be able to take advantage of that.

We always have to be concerned about supply.
However - as Electronista notes, their source is DigiTimes, hardly reliable.
I am not at liberty to say which parts, but some of the Electronista comments in that article are immature and made from whole cloth.
It may be worthwhile noting that Electronista is owned by MacNN, a very popular Apple site.

Hopefully the shortage will not effect the Evo 4G LTE or hope they can get more supply (that is still quality) from sub contractors.

In regards to a May 18th release; I find it Ironic that when I called Telesales today and asked to move my June 1st upgrade date up, they said May 18th was the soonest.

You really think so? It would be surprising and probably eye opening to look at HTC's Supply Chain.
All we can do is speculate.
Not everyone plans to pick up this phone on day one, whenever that happens to be (don't get yourselves too set on 05/18 - still a rumor).
Also not everyone CAN get it on day one - that is just not how economics operate.
I'd be really shocked if the chip shortage led to phone shipments being delayed this far into the launch date whether it's in may or June. it's not impossible, but I'd really be shocked if it happened. just seems like that would affect a mom and pop shop kind of thing and not the big dogs. if it did happen it would be truly telling, that's for sure
