[Official] What Changes Have You Noticed After Updating to 2.2 (Froyo)?

The new photo gallery is fantastic.

Maybe so but still no Picasa integration?

I'm also finding that occasionally the phone goes really unstable. It bogs down to the point it is mostly unusable. If I can manage to get Droid Info open the cpu load is 100% and sorted by usage there are no indications why. Restarting is required to get things going again.

how is everyone getting the 2.2 update..mine still says 2.1..am i missing something haha

Updating thru a leaked 2.2 build. Last week this was available, but it currently is not allowed to be posted on this board. You can probably google search it, but be careful on what source you get it from. It's called update.zip on most sites.

Good luck if you plan to go this route - I did and I am enjoying it. :)

As much as I like 2.2 i've hit more show stopping phone restart worthy bugs than I ever did with my droid or droid x on 2.1. Today my phone told me none of my music were supported file formats and refused to work until I restarted. I've had extreme lag at points, and my entire contact system is flaky as hell. I'm debating switching back to 2.1 until the real OTA update but havingto re do my entire phone doesn't sound appealing.

I ran into that MP3 issue at one point as well. Now I just make sure I turn my phone off every few hours, and restart it, and have much fewer issues then I did with 2.1, and have much longer batttery life as well.

No way in hell I'd go back to 2.1 now!

Have you tried doing a system reset? After having many of the same problems you listed, I tried a system reset and it is now running as smooth as it was when I was running 2.1.

Yes, it sucks having to reinstall everything, but it worked.

Is anyone else having upload problems? I tried to upload a photo to picasa and the process Google.apps.uploads keeps force closing. I've grid a reset and it doesn't help. I haven't tried to upload anything until now since upgrading.

All of you with issues, you need to always do a factory reset after installing 2.2. You pretty much need to after any upgrade. IMHO.

I have a question about that. Let's use two scenarios:

Scenario A:
1. You root phone and put on 2.2
2. You do a factory reset

After that, I'm assuming it's just a clean, wiped phone, but now with 2.2, right?

Scenario B:
1. You get the OTA update to 2.2
2. You do a factory reset

Same result? You now have a clean, wiped phone, just with the official update? Factory wiping maintains the updated OS, but just wipes all apps, settings, and data, right?

Had to remove auto-rotation of the screen because virtually every time I unlocked my phone the phone was rotated to the right (the new direction in 2.2). Small thing but very annoying...

Also I am finding more force close items than before. And not everything can be moved to the SD Card (Pandora for 1. The widget will no longer work...)

It does not remove your current rom. Just settings, and apps.

I thought I was delusional I wasn't saying anything. Maybe it's because it's at night and very quiet where I am? Or I'm just delusional, but it seems like it has improved!

Well if so, it doesn't surprise me. Motorola specifically said they were going to do this. It was needed anyway.

Paycer is right. Matt on moto owners forums said they were imbedding a speaker volume fix in the 2.2. I tried it just now. Seems like that fix is showing its beautiful face. :)

Anyone know how to turn off the beep and vibrate when powering down the Droid X?

Is this a new Froyo feature?

If it is, it's annoying and should have an option to turn this off.

I realize this is an older thread, but the information in here is pertinent to the OTA update as well, so let's try to keep posts related to changes from the 2.2 OTA in this thread.

Thanks!

1. New gallery app

8. New battery modes for the Battery Manager
9. The wifi icons in the Wi-Fi Settings section are white now
10. Battery usage now tells you a lot more specifics like how much battery a specific app is using and how much battery the Android OS is using.
11. No more dead pixels in camera/camcorder.
12. Wifi issue where wifi was unreliable or slow to connect has been fixed.
Just wanted to quote this very helpful list!

Switching between apps (holding the home button) looks different. The background fades to black.
