Root Old SD Card, New Phone

ASHY63

Lurker
Does anyone know what will happen when I put my Thunderbolts SD card (with root and everything) in a brand new one. My Thunderbolt was all scratched up and stuff so I called and since I have insurance they are sending me a new one. So will everything be back to normal when I put the SD into the new phone?? By the way Im new to forums and rooting so ya haha...

you will have to root your phone again.. If I am not mistaken..

Rooting is something that is done to your phone, not your card.. So any rooted apps you have will not work..

Just root it again.. Im sure there is an easy way to do it with your phone.. I rooted mine with an app on here that was just as simple as plugging in the phone and running the app..

well, im sure you can find the appropriate section on this forum for your particular phone, and they will know.. I am SURE there is a way.. Im an engineer for a living, so im a little more tech savvy, but seriously, rooting my phone was HELLA easy..

put it in debug mode (just a few clicks to do it)
plug it in via usb to my windows computer
run the one click root app
followed the prompts (no hardcore tech jargon.. pretty easy to understand)
when it finished, i rebooted..........

then it was done.. lol.. couldnt have been easier.. check the root of this forum for your phones section, and see what they have stickied..

Hi, I moved this to the TB section for you! :) Maybe the folks here can help you root for yourself rather than paying for it. :)

Check out the sticky here and read up on the manual root method, maybe even watch the youtube videos
Download the files needed to root
Set up ADB
put it in debug mode (just a few clicks to do it)
plug it in via usb to my windows computer
run the one click root app
followed the prompts (no hardcore tech jargon.. pretty easy to understand)

Follow the directions for the manual root method on XDA, it really is easy lots of copy and pasting

when it finished, i rebooted..........

I will edit this quote above for it to be correct

I promise you it is not that hard to root the correct way, you will be more comfortable with the device afterwards as well.

There's no reliable one click method for the thunderbolt. It takes a little more effort, but you'll learn some valuable things at the same time.

The one click methods for older phones are easy and convenient but when you run into an issue, and eventually you will, you'll be glad you have the extra knowledge to fix it.

thanks for all the help but im only 13 and theres no way in hell i can root my phone

if you want to make an insurance claim and have a shiny, new phone, then sounds like its going to be stock. you might be better off that way, anyway.

you may consider backing up your sd card and reformatting it,just to clean it up. if there are any files(ringtones, pics, etc) you want to keep you can move them back over afterwards. :)

Agreed if it breaks and you can't fix it then you shouldn't be tinkering with it anyways. You can mess things up messing around with them if you don't know about them

lol.. yeah.. thats why i said to go to this part of the forum.. i know its different for every phone.. hope you get your root on :D
