Root OMFGB working RIL?!

bascially,yes... i wont pretend to completely understand. ;)

for anyone interested, you can follow the buildbot for new nightly notifications:
https://twitter.com/#!/OMFBOT

the whole thing is mentioned in the cm7 thread, and there are a couple of tweets back and forth between xoomdev(OMFGBs developer) and slayher.

the cool thing is that he has released the RIL source code, wich means MIUI and a bunch of AOSP roms will follow as it gets ironed out.

further, the fact that they have incorporated it into a build machine that is also producing builds for other devices will hopelly speed up the process in getting it mearghed into CM so that they can crank out the nightlys as well.

so it could get pretty interesting in the next few days,or i guess it could be nothing :)

Is a ril like a driver, it makes the radio work?

RIL is the radio interface layer. It is basically a software in the Android framework that allows telephony applications and services to access the RIL daemon to access the vendor's radio hardware.

That is a simplified explanation obviously there is a lot more to it but basically the RIL is a very important piece of the framework if you actually want to have a reliable, functioning cell phone :)

well guys, ive had this on my phone since last night. the RIL is defaintely not any better than cm7 ril at this point. i toggled 3g/4g/wifi several times and while most times went fine,i did have to toggle 3g to get 4g back a couple times, and use airplane mode to get wifi or either data to to come back a couple times as well.in all fairness i did alot of messing with it,ill see how it goes today under normal use. as long as data and/or wifi is not constantly disapearing itll be fine. the workarounds suck, but im ok with em as long as im not usin em every time i want to check my email, send a text,or check somethin on the web.

some other random observations:
-i did get the 4g icon(apparently some dont). like cm7 you dont have phone signal bars while in 4g. you do have signal, however, just no bars. making or recieving a call the bars light up. 4g speeds were on par with what i get with cm7 at my house- 8ish to 13ish mb down. usually get 2mb or less on 3g,so its defianitely 4g :)
-sd card did not mount  remove card/power on fix has worked for some, but not for me. i unmounted/remounted card in recovery, and flashed imo's lean kernel to get it back. was really makin me mad that titanium wasnt working untill i figure out the sd card was invisible, lol
-a couple of times while scrolling homescreens it has hung up... just froze for several seconds. it came back by itself after a few seconds.
-beautiful weather has occasional prollems loading. sometimes it comes back by itself after the screen timing out and waking it back up. a couple times ive not wanted to wait for it and just re-placed it.
-visually its not much different than cm7,down to the black mms backgrounds(yay :D) and the power control in the pull down.
-gps locks right away after getting a lock with gps stats
-bluetooth seems to be working

overall its smooth and seems to be workin pretty good. so far stable enuff to keep using,so ill report anything else that pops up in the next couple days :)

Iv been using it for awhile and it seems good. No big issues for me. I like it better then CM7, It seems for Vanilla but with some of the great features of CM7, Iv had a bad experience on CM7 multiple times but here I haven't. Im not getting 4G but I havent really tried getting it to work, I might look up some tricks and flash a diffrenent Radio.

3g and Wifi work perfect, switching and all. The Bluetooth has been fixed but no GPS right now wich isnt a big deal for me.

Coming from Bamf 2.1 Im really picky about things working correctly. I usually dont like using Alpha ROMs but this one seems great.

ive not really had to do anything special for 4g. if im on 3g,going to 4g works right away. if im on wifi and go back to 4g,sometimes it goes, sometimes i get no data, and have to toggle 3g and wait for it to turn green, then toggle back to 4g. going from wifi to 3g usually is fine, but now and then i gotta do the airplane trick.

after downloading gps stats and letting it lock on 8 satelites, gps and navigation seem to be working fine for me.

i actually keep 4g off most of the time,so the workarounds dont bother me. my biggest pet peeve is having to toggle airplane mode to get any kind of data when trying to check email or using my phandroid/xda apps. as long as i get consistent 3g without having to fool with it,im pretty happy.

This is the only network issue I run into as well. It does not like going back to the cell radio after being on wifi. Handoff between 3g and 4g is fine.

You ever have the wifi "fall asleep" and not come back up to quick? I left wifi on overnight and this morning it tool a good minute or so for it to be able to send data again.

well,i have to say i like this rom. texts go pretty much right away, every time so far.. didnt lose data once. its pretty smooth. today i left and it handed wifi to 3g just fine, and when i got home, wifi picked right back up. no more issues with the sd card since flashing imos kernel. good battery life(prolly alot of credit here goes to imos leankernel... i can wait to try that on cm7 now :D)i got the whole day(10+ hours on the same battery. sounds low,but thats prolly 3 hours of voice calls over bluetooth, and lots of syncing email, checking the forums, etc. id consider it very heavy use. overnight it only use 3% of the battery

i upgraded to the 6-25 nightly, booted back up and no market? went back and reflashed gapps- all was well. so this morning i went from that to 6-26,and remembering the previous experience,i flashed gapps right after the rom. booted and no settings changes, but it reverted all my homescreens and i had to set them all back up again

so i guess im going to try not flashing the gapps on the next one :p

just wanted to give a lil update... im still a diehard cm fan,so ill be back to it eventually... but if you like AOSP and CM give this one a shot.

plus, its kind of exciting to have nightlys again!

edit: yay 6-27 is available :D

Was curious if you were going to stick with it or go back to CM..

Can't wait till the CM team finish up!

woke up to another new build

6-27/3 looked to include slayhers cm kernel, and it somehow broke wifi  flashed back to imos kernel and wifi was fixed. yay!

rootzwiki says it uses drods kernel  guess ill flash it and see what in this one :D

changelog is here:
OMFGB Thunderbolt 1.3.0 - Updated 06-27 2253cst

without a doubt ill be back on cm eventually, but for now im having fun tryin this one. will be sweet when the tb finally gets RIL merged

Just flashed 7-15 last night, but God Mode was broken so I reverted back to 7-11 and all is good. I really like this ROM. I woke up and checked twitter and saw a new nightly was built for 7-16. God mode is supposed to be working again. I'll be flashing it a little later. You CM7/AOSP lovers need to try this out. It's pretty impressive considering it's not just a kang of CM and actually a fully working AOSP build from the ground up.

ive inteded to try th3ory senseless for my next fix,but youre speaking so highly of this i may have to give it another try sooner than later

for those that may have missed it on twitter, xoomdev will be doing a OMGB as well, wich is pure, simple, unmolested AOSP. no nifty tweeks at all. watch for it if pure AOSP is your thing,or if you just want to figure out whats AOSP and whats a CM or OMFGB tweek.

last and not least,i totally dig youre noew avatar :D

Word on the street is he's dropping that pure goodness sometime this evening. I do really like this newest build, 7-16, but think CM7 is still better. If I had to rate the AOSP ROMs

CM7
OMFGB
Liquid7, errr I mean Liquid Thunderbread ;)

And thanks, isn't that picture awesome :D

i considered giving this its own thread, but decided here is a good enuff place for it,since its simliar, yet different ;)

for a first release its amazing. it works fanstastically-smooth,fast, stable. it wakes up super fast even with a 245 hz min,and i dont think ive ever actually seen a sliding tab lock screen work this well. they are almost always kinda laggy and glitchy it seems, but this one i believe is how they are supposed to look. this is the first time ive actually not minded using it instead of the familiar cm rotary lock :D

its a cool "back to the basics" feeling to run pure AOSP. i miss the black mms badly enuff that ill eventually be back on cm7 or omfgb,or be using handcent, but thats really the only thing i miss. the power control in the pull down is cool, but not that bid a deal.

only complaint is that i feel like the handoffs between data and to wifi are a lil sluggish... but its not terrible and they always happened.

if youre an AOSP fan,you should give this a try.

New nightly 7-19

MD5 = 4e2be1b30228d93a872f09048f4828ac

It's running much better than 7-16. I haven't had any problems with it yet. The only "issue" for me is auto brightness is very low. I'm sure there's a script that can be edited somewhere, I just don't know where. I tweeted Xoom and also asked in the rootzwiki thread. I'm not sure if anyone is even running this, but in case there are if and when I find how how I'll come back and edit this post to include the how to.

xoomdev
@WormDoes no there's not a way to adjust it yet. If you want it brighter for right now will have to turn auto brightness off
