Help On/Off - Power Button

Ya mine is the same way. One side of the power button works but the other is flesh with the phone. Annoying because that is ok now,but how long will the button lastt? It needs to until 12/2011. I dont think it will...:-(

After scoping out a few stores (I drive by like 4 of them on my way to work) they are all like this. When I asked the sales associate, they tell me it is how they are designed.

This is not directed at you, but "That is how they are designed"? So after 4 or 5 days of use I better start growing longer finger nails so can turn on my $600 phone?

THAT is a problem for me and you should not accept it either! The 3 on display in my local store all have raised, firm, responsive buttons and they have been on display for at least 2 weeks now and I imagine, getting pressed dozens of times a day if not hundreds.

I agree with you mate, I'm just sharing my findings. It appears that a certain amount of these phones were designed with power buttons that are poorly re-enforced.

You all need to go back to Verizon and return these phones even though it's a pain to re-activate and reinstall your apps. They need to be held accountable for QA and this is really the only way. I have a feeling they know there were some problems at the outset just as many manufactured goods have. But you should not accept it as stated here.

You're right. I'll be heading to BB after work today to exchange mine for a new one. It isn't like the Storm where I was afraid to exchange it, because I wasn't sure if the next one was going to have more issues.

ok, I thought I was the only one with this problem until I saw this today. I go to put the phone in standbye and the power button sticks and brings up the power menu. Also the back of the phone is loose by the end next to the camera. I love the phone but these issues should not happen when I only had the phone for less than 2 weeks.

Mine is flush too. Frankly, can't recall what it looked like when I first got it. Can anyone post a picture with the power button NOT flush with th ephone so we can see what it should look like. Thanks.

I have been unable to get to my store (busy at work) yet this week but I am going to attempt to get over there today... I will be keeping everyone posted as soon as something happens!

So... any followup on this thread? Has anyone gotten their phone replaced and not had this issue come back?

I received a new one from my verizon store. So far seems good. BUT, it could take a few weeks to see it again, just like my last one.
Also, battery life seems better. Now all I need is a screen protector from SGP...ugh

I wouldn't think you need to wait that long, mine started getting bad in a few days...I think if its good in a week or so it will stay that way! Good Luck!!

Well this is all very disappointing to read about. It was a fairly common issue with Nexus Ones. And after about two months of having to hit my power button three or four times to turn it on or off, the power button finally failed on me, and I had to send it in after not being able to turn it back on. Due to bad TMO coverage in my new apartment, I was looking forward to switching from my N1 to the Incredible on VZN. I hope this does not end up being a bad situation with the Incredible, too...

Damnit.

If this thread wasn't here, I wouldn't have ever noticed it.

I really don't want to install my apps and shit again.

Looking forward to an update on those who got a replacement and if the button has failed again.

Mine is slowly sinking. I noticed it before I saw this thread days back, but was hoping it was in my mind. This really does suck since that button is used so much. I don't think it will last the expected life of the phone personally. That's a damn shame...

I thought I was going crazy, until this thread. Mine is recessing too. Anyone confirm if this is a legitimate issue in stores? I'm assuming most units will be like this and I didn't bother to take pics of it when I first go it. Its noticeably lower though IMO.

Mine as well. I'm hesitant to do an exchange since the problem will still persist. Anyone talked to any CSRs and find out if the incoming batch has fixed this problem?

Also, how easy or painful is it to do an exchange?

get the "no lock" app, and keep your phone unlocked, and you can wake it with the volume rocker or the track ball..
as far as the power button becoming recessed, some of you are going off the deep edge..its NOT a mechanical switch, but an electrical contact, so, as long as the button can be pushed down enough to make contact with the terminal, it will work..it might only need to travel 1/64th of an inch to do that, so, stop worrying about nothing, and trying to find things wrong when there is NOTHING wrong...

First, I personally am not trying to find something wrong...I am actually more frustrated that with some of the trouble being reported in other areas of the phone, I seem to have gotten an otherwise perfect unit...no bugs or glitches whatsoever!

That being said, regardless of how far the button "needs to travel", if it becomes completely recessed to the point where you cannot push it unless you use your fingernail or worse it sinks below the housing and gets caught/stuck under the back cover, it is a real problem. Compound that by the fact that it is already at that point on mine, less than a week into a two year commitment and it becomes unacceptable.

Is it possible that some people might be OCD about their phone? Sure, but if your hardware is bad, it is bad. If the only method for turning the phone on and off breaks, what's the solution?

I understand you may like your phone, and I like mine too and I WISH this was not happening, but this is a weakness of the phone.

lets see, Verizon has sold 100,000+ of these phones, and 45 people on this forum "believe" they have this problem??
I'd hardly call this a "weakness" with this phone...
Plus, I bet of the 45 here that claim this is a really problem, 20 or more of them have convinced themselves that it is, whether they have a problem or not..

get the "no lock" app folks, and then you wont have to keep pushing that "extremely fragile" power button on your phone....

REALLY?!?! Where did you get those numbers? Of the "100,000+" of these phones sold, how many of the users are members of this site? And of those "100,000+" users, how many have you spoken to and gotten their feedback on the phone? Have you traveled to these peoples locations and personally seen their devices? Have you checked out the phones of the "45 here" mentioning it as an issue?

You offered advice on the "No Lock" App and it is appreciated but you're trying to convince people, some of which this is probably a big expense for, that they are imagining things and you are doing it with increasing sarcasm. I tried to be neutral about it with you and agree that there MAY be some who are being overly obsessive about it, but you seem to be fixated on dismissing everyone's concern as frivolous.

If your phone is perfect, I'm happy for you! But just because other people are having problems does not detract from the positive experience you are having.

Mine still protrudes out and haven't had this problem. I use No Lock.

Locoman, I know this is asking a lot, but any chance you can post pics of your on/off button for those here that are not sure about theirs? Maybe if they see one that does not have the problem it will put some minds at ease?

didnt mean to be sarcastic, but, as you should know, if you have been on the internet for the 20+ years that I have, people tend to mega-overexaggerate problems they might be having, and always UNDER REPORT the positive things..
I am sure that plenty of people are having some hardware issues with their phones; after all, no phone is perfect, except for the Iphone.( veiled sarcasm)

but, the minute someone reports a weird problem with their equipment on the internet, you can bet your bottom dollar that suddenly ALOT of people will think they have the same issue, and, even if they don't they try to convince themselves that they do..The Lemming principal, in all its glory..

Anyway, anyone having this problem should just take the phone back and let the store determine if you have a real or imaginary problem...until then, get the "No Lock" program, and enjoy your phone instead of obsessing over it..
