Root Optimus Elite root with an apk

Can anyone help me out?

Welcome to the AndroidForums, brainrex :).

Give the folks a little time...it's still early for some folks (depending where they live) and also a holiday weekend to boot.

I'm sure someone will get back with you :).

Cheers and thanks for signing-up with us here at AF.

I've finally got the apk file to install
Now the problem is
When i click "press here to poot" my phone vibrate and goes off
It won't turn on until I reinsert the battery

Thanks for your help so far ;)

Do you get any kind of error? What does the app show right after you try to poot? Have you tried again? Try letting it reboot, and actually leave it there for a half hour or so and see if it turns on and is rooted?

I've got a brand new Optimus Elite, I've activated it, and am trying to root it. I've downloaded ministro from the Play store, but the phone won't download poot from the link in this page. It starts the download, and then I get the message "download unsuccessful". Anyone have other ideas as to how to get the file to run?

You need Ministro II, not Ministro, then you should be able to get it to update and run Poot.

Sorry- I should have specified that I DID download Ministro II from Play, and it is listed as installed on the phone.

Welcome to the AndroidForums, fortalameda.

Don't know if this will help, but I used to have that problem occasionally with my stock browers. Switching to another browser seemed to help (not really sure why...).

Also, if you're trying from 3G or 4G, try switching to wi-fi only or vice-versa.

Lastly, you could download from a PC (I just downloaded the .apk just fine on my desktop via a Chrome browser) and then transfer and install it on your phone.

Best of luck!

OK- downloaded it onto my desktop and emailed it as an attachment, and got Poot to run, but now I get error 16- "su binary wasnot written". The only negative sign was in front of "can't create/system/xbin/su text file busy"

That means the exploit worked, and it was able to gain temporary root. But when it tried to create the file at /system/xbin/su, it failed and errno was set to ETXTBSY. Do you have any other apps running that would be trying to use root? If you do, close them. If you aren't sure, you can run "lsof" from a terminal and try to find out which program it is that is keeping Poot from creating the file.

Finally got root
Thank you guys, most especially giantpune

It looks like google wallet was the culprit. Poot finally worked; "Root Check" said I didn't have root, but then downloaded "Root Checker Basic" and it said that I did, and Titanium Backup confirmed it. Thanks for your help guys!

Anyone know how to get this to work on a ZTE Fury? I was brought here from a post of someone saying they got it to work, but all my phone does is lock up as soon as I press "Press here to poot" with the "default poot".

Pull the battery and try again.

I have a friend who used this on one of his phones and i was amazed at how quickly he was done... He sent me a link to this page but none of the current versions work on my new ZTE Groove (x501). Kudos on the failsafe, btw. What are the chances of getting something like this for my phone?

Chances are pretty good that it can be made to work on your phone. I looked up the specs and everything I saw says that your phone also has the vulnerability that Poot uses. As far as actually doing it, you could mail me your phone, or one like it. Or if you have somebody with that model that is fluent with adb and using a terminal to do command line stuff, I could meet up with them on irc and knock it out. The other supported models in the first post besides the Elite took one to 3 hours.

Hey, I'm new to rooting and have run into an issue. Hopefully someone can help me out.

Rooted my VM-OE with poot a few weeks ago. Everything worked great until I tried to use the app Link2SD. I must have linked an important apk to my exSD because when I rebooted I got stuck in a boot loop.

I did a factory reset and immediately tried to re-root using poot. Ministro II and poot went through their process just fine. Poot's built-in root checker even said that every was fine. Superuser on the other hand won't work. Even though it grant's itself root access when I go to update the binary I get a "Gaining root access... fail!" message.

What do I need to do to get Superuser working and my root access back?

You might try updating Superuser from the Market (or try using SuperSU?)

This kind of sounds like some of the su / Superuser.apk version mismatches that happens.

If you can "adb shell" and type "su" and get the "#" prompt, then you are indeed rooted. If apps won't work, then it's probably the su / Superuser version mismatch, etc.

If you haven't already, try downloading Superuser (not SuperSU) from the Play Store at this URL/link.

Open Superuser, then allow/tell it to update the Superuser Binary. All should be well afterwards.

Okay... Issues, issues. I downloaded Ministro II and installed it with no problem. Got Poot-Debug and installed it no problem. Went to run it and received an error that "Your application has run into a fatal error and cannot continue" on my LG LS670 (Sprint LG Optimus S) I tried rebooting but all I get is that same error when I try to open Poot. Tried uninstalling, booting to recovery and clearing cache, rebooting, reinstalling and trying again, but I still get only that error and no helpful information.

Any ideas, guys?
