I'll start her off. I'm stable at 825Mhz, I'm one of the lucky ones who got a high threshold proc I suppose. What have your results been like?

Does anyone else notice a MONSTER difference on this phone when taken to about 760mhz or above? Cause wow does it make a difference for me (web browsing, watching videos, scrolling).

And what app let you go over 600? on the optimus m860?

M860? The M's Model number is LGMS690.

Oh and setCPU will let you go over 600MHz but only if your have custom recovery for M installed and then flash asadullahs ROM Zero, and getitnowmarketing's OC kernel and getitnowmarketing's stagefright enabler.

So you'd need to follow this checklist:

Make sure you're on 2.2 and not on 2.2.1

Make sure if you're on 2.2 you're rooted

Make sure you have getitnowmarketing's Custom Recovery MS690 Optimus M

Make sure you have asadullah's ROM zero 1.1

Make sure you have Getitnowmarketing's GNM Optimus M beta kernel

Make sure you have Getitnowmarketing's thunderc_m_enable_stagefright.zip

Install the custom recovery using the instructions that are on the first link.

Place "11311zerorom.zip" on the root of your sdcard

Place "signed_thunderc_metro_beta.zip" on the root of your sdcard

Place "thunderc_m_enable_stagefright.zip" on your sdcard

Boot into recovery.

Select "Wipe" and then select "Wipe all userdata"

Go back and select "Flash zip menu" then select "Flash zip from Sdcard"

Select "11311zerorom.zip"

When it's finished select "Flash zip from SDcard" and select "signed_thunderc_metro_beta.zip"

When that's finished select "Toggle Signature Verify" and make sure it says "Verification: Disabled" at the bottom of the screen.

Select "Flash zip from Sdcard" and select "thunderc_m_enable_stagefright.zip"

When that's finished back out to the main menu and select "Reboot system now"

Now your phone is ready to use setCPU.

I only flashed zerorom and signed metro beta and Im overclocking jusrt fine. Whats stagefright file for?

Stagefright is for a small boost in 3D hardware acceleration.
Thanks for clarifying it.
Can I still flash it now after all? my phone is already flying with clock set to 748. Also I think because of custom rom, but another tweak, I would not mind =)

you can flash it right over everything else. It won't effect anything.

thanks andy ima try that out as soon as I get home.. Cuz Im at work right now. and now that ur saying it I think that guy is doing his best u know. Like he dont even have the phone and he's trying to get a Custom Rom for US... I mean I think He's good ppl. :) lets just wait a lil bit.

OK here is the problem my phone wont see the update.zip when i go into FLASH ZIP FROM SDCARD. THERE IS NOTHING JUST THE FOLDERS. IT WONT SHOW THE ZIPS

NEVER MIND STUPID MEE LOL

I was wondering the same thing. Does overclocking affect the processor life? As an overclocked i7 user I know that cooling has to be upped in the case of most computer cpu's but I have no idea about cell phone ones.

Another question for all the brains out there. What state does flashing the OC components (custom recovery, rom, kernel, stage, etc) leave your phone in? I was kinda thinking about overclocking, but I have already set my phone up perfectly the way I like it and dont wanna mess with it again.

Thanks all and lets go snow.

I would find out what the thermal threshold of an ARM6 (I think?) processor is.
then find a processor temp monitor app, and do heavy work on it. If the temps are nowhere near the threshold then you should be ok as far as damage. If it's anything like a pc processor of course, and it should be. So long as it runs stable and the heat is acceptable there's nothing to worry about except shorter battery life. But even that's not so bad because of the OnDemand governor. It speeds up when you use it, slows down when you don't.

I have a question, never played with roms before. Can I make an entire clone of my phone (like ghosting a hard drive) to a file? I'd imagine with adb or something. Like saving a copy of your existing bios before playing around. I'd like to try out that custom rom, but I want to make sure I can restore exactly what I have now with a couple of steps without problems. I've seen some apps that manage roms on the market, not sure if that's for the same thing

forgive me, but I recently got a Optimus M. I had the G1 when it came out but I left tmo. I have been wondering how to overclock my optimus M. I know there are apps in the marketplace but they are mainly for DROID/X. Can I overclock my M wiithout flashing a custom ROM?

ok, well now that I have flashed my phone and opened setCPU, it says I'm at 86400khz but if I stay in the app for a couple seconds then it freezes and reboots the whole phone....anyone has any input? Also, now that I have flashed my phone, what ROM would you recommend?

andyo70 says for 2.2 only

does that mean it wont work on 2.2.1 or that it wouldnt work before when we couldnt root 2.2.1?

Well I've got mine overclocked to a stable 787/245 on idle. Running Juice defender I'm usually at about 65% battery at the end of the day.

Using Gingerbread Launcher is pretty worth it as well. Less lag and more importantly it combines all your apps into one screen (without the bar separating ones on the SD card and the such). It really is worth rooting, installing a custom rom, and removing the bloatware on this phone. If you don't you have no idea what your missing.

Thank you Asdullah for a very competant custom rom I look forward to your updates.
