Root Optimus M Overclock thread...

I read in another form the beta kernel most of us use only makes the cpu go to higher speeds when the start cpu program is running and with root privileges is this true?

What I mean is, once the program is no longer in the memory, the cpu speeds do not stick? I'm just wondering, because if that is the case it hardly seems worth the effort to overclock the system at this stage. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I just tested a non clocked rom, and it seems the live wallpaper is a jerky in the non-clocked version. So, I would say the overclock works for me at all times. I'm still testing.

Is there a way to overclock on 2.2.1 ??

Followed this guide to the t, got through everything with fairly simple instructions (a couple rereads is all it took) and completely overclocked my optimus m that i've had since december. i've got a fairly high threshold proc, i can stay at 806 with it only freezing like one percent of the time. but i keep it at 787 cause i don't run it too hard.

BUT..... ever since i overclocked it four days ago, i've not once been able to access the internet off of wifi! :O i can't browse the web, can't download apps, can't retrieve emails! all of that i can only do over wifi. i can still make calls and receive and send texts perfectly fine. come to think of it, i can't send mms messages either. any clue what i may or may not have messed up? or is this an issue i'm gonna have to take to my local metro store? thanks ahead for any help... :\

UPDATE:
I just checked it again, and it's working now. i guess the data network was down for awhile in my area. *Phew*

It appears the 11311zerorom.zip file is no longer available on Google Docs.
Can someone upload it somewhere please?

Nevermind, I found it. :P

I was wondering what would be a good overclock spped to set my rooted optimus m at ? I dont want to over do it and kill the phone . It starts at 600mhz how much higher from there?

Alright so last night I finally got around to flashing the phone with ROMZERO and overclocked the phone. I was stable at 864 no reboots and the phone is flying. I tried 912 but imidiatley got had reboots so I left the phone at 864 for about 3 hours using the phone heavily. Games multi tasking etc
no problems I even ran a quadrant benchmark and scored 1124 not bad at all for an entry level phone.
I ended up leaving the phone at 768 as there really is no need to go higher and put the added stress to the cpu. Also I love RomZero as it has been great so far n complaints.
I wish I where keeping Metro but I cant stand the internet speeds they provide if your not on a 4g phone. So off to Simple I go.
I am going to hate getting rid of this phone as it has been great for me since day one.
Just thought I would share my expirience with the custom rom.

How would this be done on Android 2.3.3 CM7? The same, minus the romzero? Sorry for the n00bness, but I really want to overclock and see what types of numbers I can pull with this phone, but would like to keep CM7 and my settings.

M860? The M's Model number is LGMS690.

Oh and setCPU will let you go over 600MHz but only if your have custom recovery for M installed and then flash asadullahs ROM Zero, and getitnowmarketing's OC kernel and getitnowmarketing's stagefright enabler.

So you'd need to follow this checklist:

Make sure you're on 2.2 and not on 2.2.1

Make sure if you're on 2.2 you're rooted

Make sure you have getitnowmarketing's Custom Recovery MS690 Optimus M

Make sure you have asadullah's ROM zero 1.1

Make sure you have Getitnowmarketing's GNM Optimus M beta kernel

Make sure you have Getitnowmarketing's thunderc_m_enable_stagefright.zip

Install the custom recovery using the instructions that are on the first link.

Place "11311zerorom.zip" on the root of your sdcard

Place "signed_thunderc_metro_beta.zip" on the root of your sdcard

Place "thunderc_m_enable_stagefright.zip" on your sdcard

I'm ready to do this but I'm stuck here. I have done the recovery (thanks to new optimus) but I where to get these files or what it means to put something on the "root" of my SD card. Do I need to back up my apps and contacts with an app like Titanium back up?

Thanks

This is a very old thread, one that is no longer applicable.

You want the newest overclock kernal for 2.2.1
reppard had one out called r.O.C.Kv3 but I think playfulgod now has a newer one out.
to put it on the "Root" of the sd card means not inside a folder.
All your contacts are stored with gmail so when you sign into gmail on the phone the first time all will be restored, but it sure wont hurt to back up your apps with titanium.
Though when you go to the android market and press menu you will see my apps that is a list of all the apps you downloaded from market and it will let you redownload them
So most everything will be "backed up" for you, but any custom settings titanium will take care of for you.

Is there somewhere else I can get the zero rom file? When I click the link, it says that the doc is not found...

Does everyone actually stress test their phone overnight to make sure its actually stable? I can run over 748 but it reports errors in the morning. Last thing you want is a phone that has random errors b/c of a unstable overclock....

technically if it hold out when benchmarking w/o crashing it will be good.

And a phone having random errors is all that uncommon bone stock ;)

I look at like oc'ing my PC, one small error if left running unstable can easily bring the whole system down anytime. If my phone got errors at stock clock I would replace it.

well with these phones I have noticed (on several diff ones mind you) that if you oc it to high it will just reboot, not just run n fry your phone like a PC will. ;) Then you just try a lower setting. Stress testing is good tho, not debating that. ;)

People say put in the root of ur phone but that's wasn't working for me so I had to put it in the folder called Android in order for it to show up.

My optimus M, seems to like itself on 768..... i bet i can go higher but when i start to do multitasking and start to touch the screen like a crazy madman, i make it cough really hard and in result get a restart.

Thanks PG, you the man

BC the processor can't handle the speed. I'm not suggesting your phone will fry since we can't over volt it. If we could we could monitor temps n get much higher PC's. I am suggesting if your dress test has random errors bad things happen. Lets say ur phone is booting and a error occours during a important software moment. You have now inadvertantly corrupted a hopefully recoverable database. I've Oc'd PC's since their was p4s lol.

LOL. You just made me feel old with the whole I've oc'd pc's since p4s.

I've overclocked PC's since you had to do it with a jumper on the board of 386 and 486. Overclocking my old 486 from 25mhz to 33mhz made megarace play so much better of my 2x cd-rom.

Heh.

Ever had the pleasure of using windows 3.1? :D

I had an IBM with a phosphorescent screen and a 5 1/4 floppy that I learned Basic on...

I actually do have a working tape drive right now, but I couldn't afford one back in the day when they were useful. I do remember hard drives measured in megabytes tho, LOL.

Typing this made me feel even older, LOL.
