Orange 2.2 update

Thanks for the reply. I know that he tried to manually find afterwards and it was not there initially. I guess it should reappear in a couple of hours or something

Yeah it worked for me when i did that. Cancelled the update and when i searched later in was there for me to download and install.

My resigned-to-nothing-happening hourly check for updates just came up trumps, downloading now.

Thanks Orange, it was only a week ago you told me to start checking and it's only a few months late.
 
Is this the 2.2 update or the software update from one version of 2.1 to another ie to 1.22.61.10??

So all orange users that are still on 1.15.61.10 are just waiting for an update from HTC to be on the correct software, then we will get the 2.2 update!!

Spoke to HTC and they are not sure when this will be as below:

'htc and orange work together yes. and the servers are not in the same department, we do not have access to these. and no we do not know the time it will be released. if orange say it is this week or next then it will be then. as they will give us the update. just keep checking on the phone and it will come to you ota'


 
I wouldnt get too excited, Didnt change much and now i have a list of problems I didnt have before

Is there an orange ruu or a way to back up my current Rom?
Just want to know if i unbrand it I can put it back to normal should the worse happen.
 
Slowly but surely my reasoning for not buying an iPhone and getting the Desire is slowly being eroded. Currently, the only (admittedly big) bonus of the HTC is the lower cost but as for everything else, I wish I had an iPhone. This ridiculous delay in getting upgraded to Froyo with Orange is beyond ridiculous.
 
I spoke to Orange technical support regarding a problem with my gmail not syncing, we couldn't manage to solve it. While I was on there I thought I might as well ask him about the 2.2 update. He told me that many people after updating were having problems with their phone and as a result orange froze the roll-out of the update and are looking into the problems.

There isn't now a guaranteed date for solving the problem but he said it should be fixed within 2 weeks.
 
There is such a thing as the Orange "Correspondence Department" which are the highest of the high in Orange customer service. I've dealt with them before regarding problems with my old phones and they just do anything to fix. Including sending out brand new phones for the smallest of reasons, and letting me keep them ;)

If they still exist within orange I'd imagine they'd be able to answer every question. It's just a matter of getting through to them.

Oh and my take on the 2.2 update; Now that Orange have updated their Hero's to 2.2, the Desire isn't going to be far behind.
 
The heros are not on 2.2 they are on 2.1. If you want the iPhone get it. It is a fantastic phone which beats the desire in many ways and is perfect if you don't mind using iTunes and stuff.

I've been following this thread for weeks. I have phoned Orange and HTC several times for information about the 2.2 (Froyo) update only to be told something different and more confusing each time.

In my experience and from the accounts of others in various android forums Orange and HTC seem to have been universally unhelpful since the update was announced in August.

I wouldn't be surprised if Orange, HTC or whoever is responsible today, never make Froyo available to those of us with the old 1.15.61.10 firmware.

I had had enough yesterday and finally de-branded using this link posted by ketledesire on page 27 of Froyo Orange 2.2 update.

I used the Updated Newer and simpler debrand method (halfway down page 4)

It was very easy to follow and I now have 2.2 with no Orange bloatware!

I have been able to transfer 14 MB of apps to the SD card (eventually most apps will be able to be stored on SD too)

There were no problems with loosing WiFi (in the updated method, once you have created the Gold card you update directly to Froyo from the Rom downloaded to your PC by USB cable.

The new Wifi Hotspot tethering works perfectly.

The new flashlight (torch) is brilliant!

The video recorder now has 720 HD recordings well.

Here are a few points that may help anyone doing this.

I found it helpful to print the above de-branding guide so that I could follow it exactly and see the the helpful comments at the end.

Use windows 7 to create the gold card if any problems with XP (I had some net 2.0 issues)

Make sure that you re-format the gold card and start again if you get any error messages or anything goes wrong at this stage.

Format your micro SD card by plugging it directly in your PC (it takes ages if you leave it in your phone and plug it in with the USB cable).

Keep checking that Debugging is ON on your phone at each step (It went off sometimes on mine)

Use XP to transfer the Froyo ROM to your phone if you keep getting "Administrator" issues with windows 7.

Also, as stated in the guide ,"use charge only mode" on your phone when flashing the 2.2 ROM. I was worried this was a typo, but it's not.

Most importantly take you SIM card out when flashing the 2.2 ROM.
When completed. Turn your phone off and put that nasty little Orange SIM card back in.
During the boot process your phone asks you if you would like to use Orange network.
Put the last few weeks behind you and agree.
Hey Presto, it should continue to boot up.

This way, whilst your phone will not be unlocked you will not have to pay for an unlock code.

Forgive me if I am teaching some of you to suck eggs. I have never done anything like this before and found it a bit daunting.

I hope all of you still waiting for Froyo are more convinced to re-brand.

GO FOR IT!

PS: I used Mybackup Pro (on Android Market) to backup and restore all my data (including bookmarks, setting, etc) and apps.
It is very easy to use and wll worth the USD 4.99. Worked a treat. No problems.

If i debrand using this method, will i have to keep an spare SD card to use as a gold card to get future updates, or once its done, will i be able to use the phone and update as normal?
