Orange UK 2.1 update news

Well i woke up this morning, after leaving my date set as 2/8/2010 . .NOTHING

I rang Orange today (to see when my upgrade date is) and i asked about the "promised" 2.1 update . . . the girl knew Nothing :(

Anyway "if" it does come in sept . . its too little too late i have been waiting for this update for nearly a year , and my upgrade is in October . . so ill be a sheep and get an I-phone. .

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

From one Captain to another, don't give in to the masses and use a dirty iPhone!

Phoning up Orange Customer Service will give you nothing. They are not provided with such details guys, so you'll hear a lot of bugger-off stories, dates, midnight-werewolf legends, etc. We just have to wait or get another handsets.

Or even another bloody OS, cos Android seams to be something else than I've anticipated when I got the G1 and Hero afterwards.

Fed up...

I'm trying to think of a way to see if I could get my Hero replaced with a Desire seeing as the woman last night said they were possibly discontinuing it...

Fed up...

I'm fed up with my Hero because it'd so slow. i've deleted all the apps I don't use, nothing running in the background except htc stuff, no widgets, no fancy clock. and it still crawls along. I'm relying on this update to improve performance, if it does nothing then I'm getting rid of it. can't believe I bought this decrepid piece of junk.

Did you do the last two minor updates? They both improved performance.

Obviously it seems we have no definite date from Orange then...but when(if?!) it does come out...do I need to update my phone via orange's website first before this big 2.1 update? I got my Hero in December and have never updated it. My version is 2.73.61.5

I just checked - I had no idea there was a 2nd update. My version is 2.73.61.5 and the latest ROM on HTC website is 2.73.61.66 - I'll install it this evening and see if it makes a difference. Thanks!

It will, it's not gonna be huge but you'll be happy to see that the phone is a bit snappier.

PS. My wife got Desire today... 3 months to my upgrade, god damn it :p

PSS. If the market will keep on getting fragmented, HTC will keep on taking a piss at one year old handsets stating that they can't be bothered updating the FW (i.e. to 2.2) I think I'll give up on Android - can't be arsed to change my handset every year. At least one thing Apple got right...

I have 2.73.61.5 too and mine's been fine, I wasn't gonna bother doing the .66 update as I'd been fine without it.

Found this article about the present push of 2.1

Clicky Clicky

Seems midnight releases were a spoof, could be the previous rumours in this thread about September may be nearer the mark. Maybe August will be closer.

Orange have the work experience boy working on it. Looks like we will have a perfect cooked Rom before an orange one...

I've got an Orange branded Hero that was bought direct from Orange in September last year on an upgrade.

Got fed up with the conflicting stories about 2.1 release, so decided to follow the new thread started yesterday about Branded users can wait for update. I made the Gold Card in a matter of seconds, downloaded 2.73.405.5 ROM and it installed!!! Yipee.

No sooner had the phone restarted, I got a message stating there was a firmware update (double yipee) which was part one one of the 2.1 update.

This came through smoothly, and installed, then restarted... Another update!!1(triple yipee) This being the full 2.1 update that took about 10 minutes to download and install.

Restart... new splash screen...pause...pause...Network Lock...Enter unlock code!!! AAARRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

Nearly threw the phone out the window. Called Orange every name under the sun. Calmed down. Then, realising that I can't send or receive calls, started to panic.

Downloaded 2.73.61.66 from HTC support site, crossed fingers, reflashed phone....

Now everything back to where it was 3 hours ago!!! Phew! That was a waste of an evening.

So, any Orange branded handset user feeling tempted to use the GoldCard method posted yesterday, please don't! It probably won't work for you.

I'm so sad to see that Orange is messing with you owners of Orange branded phones just like HTC was messing with us :( stay strong, we're with you all the way, brethren! :D

I did exactly the same, very frustrating. Only I spent 5 hours messing about with it after getting USB failure via HTC Sync.

EDIT: Well people have said 3rd july for orange, Thats tomorrow! Don't let us down again orange!

We will see

I emailed orange regarding the update, took them 5 days to reply just to give e a link to their firmware updates page. Completely ignoring the questions I asked which is rather irritating :(

This thread we hopefully be more useful than the official 2.1 thread. Seems us Orange users must stick together seen as our network are complete tw@s.

Just to note untill this update is released i'm using the iPhone 3G =/ i cant wait for 2.1 and o back to hero :)

I'm so sick and tired of waiting. I'm tempted to sell my phone and get some better  HATE YOU ORANGE!!!
