Original Droid...upgrade

just out of curiosity do they have a vanilla ROM for the fascinate? cuz if i can root the function and then have a vanilla ui to it that would be so sweet :) if i can not hold out on the nexus prime, but then again waiting out on the next google phone will have its perks, the Google phones always are first to get the updates first for pretty much everything Google whats throw at android. I envied that about the nexus phone.

My guess would be that anything AOSP-based for most phones would be vanilla at some point in development, and should be released as such. But I honestly do not know - I only know about the DROID, since that's what I got.

I can't believe that 8someone* out there is not making vanilla ROMs for devices (or, at the very least, ROMs without the OEM's overlay UI) - then again, stranger things have happened....

Leaked Pics of Sprint’s Galaxy S II Surface – Say Hello to the Samsung Within

a bit pissed Sprint has a better relationship with Google, always having deeper integration with Google services. Oh well I really want to see the specs on this phone once it comes out. Does it come a 1.2 or a 1.4 ghz? It is now already mid way into July and just now we are getting blurrycam photos of the sprint within. ARGH I want a new phone already lol

Show me that Function

I use Launcher Pro Plus so the manufacturers UI doesn't matter to me. On the Eris you can turn Sense off. Did that option disappear on the newer phones?

My upgrade is the end of July and am waiting anxiously. Loved the D1 when it first came out but its memory limitations are driving me batty. I keep trying to force GB on the thing and it keeps telling me I HAVE NO MEMORY TO RUN THIS! But I try try try! Heck, even my Froyo I've probably reloaded on the thing ten times now is wearing thin. I'll go through a cycle of 'C'mon this has GOT to run SOME version of GB right!' ...finding out, nope it's not running right, going back to ol Froyo, seeing its speed and battery draining limits, looking at new GB ROM updates, thinking HEY I'll try that! Only to find out once again that it eats my Droid alive and then going back to Froyo....wash,rinse,repeat. Getting old. What makes it worse is seeing others with large screened phones taking pics and I'm drooling and looking at em with envy ;),and reading about how 'fast' the new phones are and how happy folks are with em. I love summer so I refuse to hurry July, my favorite month of the entire year, along. I'll just have to wait impatiently I guess and hope for a good phone to drop end of July, beginning of Aug....

Agreed about the screens. I went from an OG droid to X to Samsung Charge. I have to say both upgrades were worth it. There is reall no comparision screen wise. You can actually see it in the sunlight. The Charge is truly fantastic and the battery is so much better than the TB (tried them both). The Charge has an unlocked bootloader and development community that seems to be gaining steam at XDA. The internal memory is not big but it is really nice to have 750mb open compared to the 80-90 I had on my og. I was very happy with the DX also. Rock solid phone but gingerbread was pretty much a stinker. With both the DX and charge the GB attempts have been valliant but are not really any better than froyo.

I guess to sum it up if you are looking to upgrade the Charge would be a HUGE upgrade and I doubt you would feel any limitations (especially if you root it). There are a couple of good phones out there and once you start using the big screen you'll wonder how you ever got by on the OG.

PS. Hi Chief and Yankee, miss your informative posts and help on the other forums. Spending most of my time at XDA where all the Charge action is.

Well thanks Lim and we miss you too :)

Glad you found a suitable and worthy successor for your beloved Droid! I think mine can hold out just-a-little-longer for the Function or Prime. Or BOTH and see which one I like better. Enjoy continuing your rooting & ROMming adventure on your new phone!

Wassup Lim?! Glad the Charge is working for ya. I bought my g/f the Charge last month, so I know exactly where you're coming from. Having it in hand, I can honestly now say that my OG is feeling (very) inadequate. It's an upgrade in every way, and is a truly wonderful device. I've started working part time in Costco, and when people want the best phone, that's the one I (and the rest of the team) go to. If for no other reason than the screen. Man, is that thing pretty!

I really should have upgraded to it and gotten her the LG Revo (she hates having the same phone as me, last one being the LG Dare <looks at Chief>). I mean, it's almost like that phone was meant from me. It has a look no other phone has, and it's almost meant for my hands. But knowing it was a superior device and that she was in more need of a new phone than I, I made sure she got the best device available. So I decided to wait on the Bionic.

Anyway, good seeing ya. I do more lurking than posting in the DC forum, and I'm rarely over at XDA, but I'm all over AF at this point. Even though I think my posts are more comic relief than insightful at this point. lol

<Looks back smiling sentimentally>Isn't it brain-numbing to think that the LG Dare, heck of a phone it was, was THE Verizon device to get in 2008? My, how far we've come in just three short years...

BTW TwistedLim: Can you please explain to us uninitiated what Odin is? If I'm gonna root a phone like the Function and install Clockwork, then it looks like, from reading XDA, that's the path to take and I don't even know what it is...

Was funny, the other day a woman came in to upgrade her phone, and it was the Dare. Made me look intelligent as I poked through.

I also am a bit lost with Odin. Mostly cause my g/f refuses to let me root her Charge, so I generally only peruse the All Things Root section.
