Root OTA Update Question

So I rooted my dads evo a while back and he's still running froyo and really wants to update to gingerbread. Only problem is that he's really not a flasher type of person... So I was wondering if I could flash a stock recovery to the device (currently running clockworkmod) and use the app- OTA Root Keeper to backup root, unroot, update, and then restore root with out any problems.
Similar to what I did with my Rooted Transformer Prime when I updated to ICS.

Confirmation would be appreciated.

Absolutely not. The current ota has a new bootloader which I don't believe is rootable and may never be. I would get mikg on his phone and flash the radios I posted in ocn's thread re the new ota.

Again, do NOT install any ota updates on rooted phone unless you are prepared to live with a non rooted device.

Edit: and for good measure put amon ra on his phone as a recovery. Much better than clockwork

If you didn't already know, be sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache (3 times each if you're on clockwork, once each is good if you're on Amon RA) before flashing the rom.
