Root OTA update to 4.1 Download

whats error that you get? is the update in /sdcard? make sure its not in a folder and make sure you didnt rename it. just choose zip and find select the update and flash

same. the error is status 7 I think

I pulled this from the updater script...it's the assert mine keeps failing on
 
I just restored money15's stock back up to test it out and same deal. I was on full stock before too, just the rom instead. I have tried everything lol. Has anyone done this successfully other than the 2 people that downloaded the file on their phone and uploaded?

sorry i wasn't clear...did anyone download the update from either of the 2 zips that were uploaded here, and flash them successfully in cwm (besides the posters of the zip updates)?

did you try Junkie's new tool, old tool, or both? I think there might be a problem with the new java tool for now. It does not work for me in linux, not sure about other platforms.

thats odd, oh well all i did was go to Apps-->All-->Google Framework Services and wipe data and force stop the application
Then go to system updates and update firmware, keep trying that. took me like 30 mins of doing to finally bring it up.

have tried both and neither give it, the c++ one says i should have root, but the su binary isnt found on the phone, and the one that goes throught cmd says cant create /data/local.prop: permission denied

(1) root ur device using "andorid emulator" trick
(2) install Busybox (1.18.4)
(3) install SU files (ICS specific)
(4) do some checks for free space, tmp directory
(will remove Google Maps if required)
[*] Before u begin:
(1) make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device
(2) enable "USB DEBUGGING"
from (Menu\Settings\Developer Options\Development)
(3) enable "UNKNOWN SOURCES"
from (Menu\Settings\Security)
(4) [OPTIONAL] increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
(5) connect USB cable to PHONE and then connect to PC
(6) skip "PC Companion Software" prompt on device

as stated in the op here, and as i predicted in the first place, the old root method does not work... it was made for ics, not jellybean. but i already took steps to figure out how to root it, fastboot method for installing cwm doesnt require root, once cwm is intalled you can use a generic root zip like the one posted in the op, no the original root button will no longer work, if someone wants to find a method that does work that is kool id like to have a working method but for now we have a method you just have to do a little bit more work than youre used to...

and superr as far as your issues i dont see why it would be failing the assert on partition 1 we have never changed partition 1 to my knowledge, make sure you are running pure stock everything, see if you can find a log or something in the cache directory that fails, and if you are trying to use someone elses root zip then that is probably your issue because that may be phone specific info its looking for like a serial number or something. we will have to edit that out for it to work right which unfortunately will break the update for stock recovery

now i do have one question, do we have a cwm flashable up here or is that the stock rom flashable? id like to see the stock rom flashable but a cwm flashable version is the more important thing at this point
 
OOOOHHHHH i know why the update doesnt flash, copy the update ota that you downloaded from me and copy it to /cache and copy it to your /sdcard. i forgot that in order not for it to fail the update the zip has to be in both cache and the sdcard partiton try and see if that works.

tried the fastbootmethod in junkies tool and my computer said something about installing drivers then failed to install then hangs at the green android requiring battery pull to start up
 
right, that means the fastboot drivers arent installed, but it also means the fastboot method will still work
 
oh and sorry bk if you were talking about the update zip not the root zip i thought you meant the root zip keeps aborting
 
youll have to go into the device manager, find the thing thats messed up while the phone is on the black screen, hit update drivers on it, and manually force the kernel debug driver from the zte driver package you downloaded

should be in something along the lines of
c:\Program Files (x86)\ZTE 3GPhone USB Driver\Drivers\

then you will see two folders, 64bit and 32bit, if you dont know which you are well figure it out sorry i dont got time for all that
the kernel debug driver is the one to use for it and it MUST be on the black screen while you are trying to install it. after that is done you should be good to go and the install will run as normal
