OTA update today?

My phone notified me a few minutes ago of an update. Anyone know what the update is? I'm worried to update again since the last update (4.0.4) gave me so many problems.

Yes, it was simply the security update. Talk crashes on launch now. =\

If I find anything else broken, I'll post it.

Just to confirm, I took a deep breath and a chance, and did the OTA as well. Mine still says 4.0.4. I'm really hoping they solved the issue with it randomly shutting down on it's own!!!!

I updated it and nothing changed, still 4.0.4, but I don't seem to be having the black screen of death anymore, my texts are making noises again (after months of silence), and my lock button is much more responsive now.

Since the OTA update when I connect my S2 to Kies on my desktop it says this firmware does not support updating through kies. Thats new.

This is what I found from ATT forums

Hey all,

As some of you have already noted, an update is available for the Samsung Galaxy SII.

The update includes fixes for devices that may become unresponsive and/or power down while sitting idle on rare occasions. It also enhances security to protect against malware vulnerability. You will receive a notification on your phone to update.

NOTE - You must have updated to Android version 4.0 to receive notification of the new software update

I read on the AT&T forums that before the ICS update, other people had gotten the "cannot update via Kies" message. However, when ICS was available via Kies, they had no trouble updating. I sincerely hope that is the case this time as well.

Ok, so I updated. Now, my phone is turning off when it's plugged into my laptop. Seriously, AT&T? Time to root. Can someone link me to the easiest way to do so? Thanks

I haven't experienced the SOD since this update...a few more days will tell for sure tho

Update: 10 or so days in and no SOD for mine as yet. One lockup tho when an app got cranky, but a successful update, as it was targeting the SOD issue specifically

So it's been 5 days since I installed the update and as far as I remember, I do not think I've had the sleep of death yet! Battery life is still kinda shitty in general, but what else is new lol

I second the request for a good (current) root guide.

I rooted mine with Odin 3.04. Did fine, except for NO SOUND! I could make a call, and it would connect, but I could not hear them or the ringing and they could not hear me. Text messages worked OK. So now I have unrooted it and reinstalled Android 4.0.4 and everything works again.

I have had ONE incident of SOD since installing this update. Also, sometimes when I tap my Facebook app, the dialer opens?! While using the default web browser my phone will stop responding for a few seconds.

In conclusion, I think I'm done with OTA updates.

After installing the update, so far so good. Didnt encounter any SOD yet. Hopefully this update resolves the issue we have all suffered for quite sometime.

Has anyone else noticed a change in their SWYPE keyboard since the OTA?

I have word suggestions on, and when i misspell a word, a bar under the message box pops up with some suggestions. Prior to the OTA, the suggestion bar would pop up & disappear pretty quickly.

Now, there seems to be this gradual faded delay when the word suggestion bar appears & disappears. This has resulted in many mis-taps due to the attachment button sliding in the place of the Send button with the fadded delay.
