Root Out of the blue

Been rooted for some time (months). I was running cm-7.2.0-rc1-g60style-final and out of the blue, I went to plug it in to charge... and it restarts itself (staying in a boot loop). I tried some troubleshooting, clearing cache, dalvik, loading different roms... but still would go into boot loop when charging. I tried to restore a nandroid and it restored successfully in CWM. I tried to reboot and now it is constantly stuck in a bootloop, every time it's powered on.

An extra dilemma: Since it would go into the loop when plugged in (and now it does it at every time it's powered on)... I cannot charge the battery at all. I have two batteries and both low. One is at 11% and the other is 24%. So I guess first, I need to find out how to charge it again and then some help with the bootloop issue. Thanks, in advance.

Charge with phone off. Then, wipe everything. Install fresh. Don't install anything else. Try plugging in on first boot. See if still causes boot loop.

I cant. Even with phone off, if I plug it in to wall charger or usb. The phone turns itself on and goes into boot loop.

Have you tried different USB cords or chargers?
It might be the port on the phone. I would try to eliminate everything else first. I have charged a LiIon battery using a LiIon battery, just to get something very important. I wouldn't try to fully charge it that way.

Can you try going to recovery or download mode and plug the charger in and see if that boots the phone?

Also, can you confirm that when you put in the battery, the phone starts by itself or do you have to press the power button for like 3 seconds?

Does not charge in download (nothing happens when I plug in for dl mode) and plugging in during recovery mode starts boot loop).
Phone doesn't start when battery is put in, it starts (and boot loops) when it is plugged in... even when phone was off to begin with.

Is it possible that your power button is stuck? Did you spill water or something?

Maybe drop a few bucks on a wall charger online & try to charge the batteries outside the phone first? I imagine there is a way to jumper the wall charger directly to the battery, but wouldn't know how to do it, especially without risking a battery blow-up. :(

I don't think so, I need to press it to get into recovery and dl mode. If it was stuck, the phone would never stay off. When I remove battery and put it back in to phone, the phone will remain off... until I use power button or plug in charger that is connected to outlet or usb cable that is connected to computer.

Perhaps, Maybe the usb port is faulty. I successfully installed the starship rom and it boots all the way completely without boot loop, until I plug charger in and then it keeps restarting til I do a battery pull.

Update: little bit of success my car charger works without starting a boot loop. at least I will have enough battery to actually try some troubleshooting. please keep the advice coming I do appreciate it.

Glad to hear it- let that baby charge up all the way before you try anything else! :)

That seems to point to a charger/cable/port issue. Can you disconnect your car cable and try it with a wall charger? Or is it the hardwired type?

no it only works in the car. The car charger that is.

I think the phone is just dead. I left it plugged-in in the car and when I came back it was in the download mode. But when I left, the phone was not on, it was only charging. And now I can't boot into recovery or turn it on at all. It just stays at the Motorola logo and keeps going back to the Motorola logo.

Try powering on without your sd card in. This happened to a nook color I had once (it wasn't a dual boot, rom directly on emmc) Took the micro sd out, powered on just fine. Probably not your issue... but worth a shot. Good luck, I know how much that sucks.

Worth a try, but I think the reason that can happen with the Nook is because it is able to boot from the SD, the very fact that allows it to dual boot.

Can you go to download mode still? If you plug the charger in, it starts up right? Try going to download mode and connect it to PC. Then replace the mobile folder inside with a good one you can find on this forums. Then go to recovery and flash Stock ROM by b_random14. See if that works. I am thinking your USB port is broken. Try that first. Also, take picture of your USB port clearly and post.

It goes into download mode, but it can only be plugged in (at the same time), when it is on the car charger. Wall or usb to computer puts it in loop. Can't take photo, it's the only camera I have ATM.

Yeesh- it's beginning to sound pretty bad to me & more like you might want to just exchange it. I guess it comes down to how long can you go without a phone & how much time & energy do you want to pour into trying to fix it.

^^^ Yeah, I was hoping that wasn't the case, but all good things must end. It was performing beautifully too, then it just kicked the curb.
